I think the philosophy for this whole ost ( which i can't wait to hear in full ) is so unique !
In developer interviews, it's been said that the soundtrack is themed around music used in religion, and how to combine that with a fantasy-like sound. Additionally, there was talk about music that characters experience in their minds as opposed to music for the player's ears only. And sure enough in the recent showcase, they revealed that the bgm does in fact play in the protagonist's head ! So presumably, that battle theme is canonically something that your character hears. Neat stuff.
Fun fact, they actually hired a real buddhist priest to do the chants for this game, I kid you not ! How cool is that ?
If I'm not mistaken, these mantras are in Esperanto, which is a constructed language created around the 1870s-80s, and has been adopted in this game as the official language of the world ( or at least the continent it takes place in ). You can see Esperanto pretty much everywhere in the trailers ! It's written with a made-up script, but entirely decipherable, and some people have already compiled the alphabet and used it to translate various words and sentences that have been shown in menus and on structures.
I thought the angry Buddhist monk chants were just a rumour 😮

If you like this, you should check out some of the Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey battle themes. Meguro did the music for that too, and it's in a similar style to this song. "An Honor Befitting That Name" is my personal favorite.
