You need to be swiss citizen and you need to get another specials permit everytime you wan't to shoot it in full auto, which is relatively easy to get but theres like a 1-2 week waiting period and it's just a hassle, not worth it really. EDIT: oh yeah and you have to shoot full auto on official ranges with "Expert" surveilance.
All u need is: Muzzle-Monolithic suppressor Barrel-Tempus Archangel or Nexus barrel Laser-Tac-Laser Underbarrel-Commando Foregrip Mag size-60 round mag or 50 if u want a bit more mobility and control (Now the Grau has been nerfed but still this setup is great)
as a member of the swiss army I can tell it is not just much cooler and more satisfying but aswell way more useful. I got tought shooting and did teaching myself in my later time in a whole variaty of those guns including SMG, AR, SR and the LMG 05 which has a metal mag (next to the chain cases). in my eyes they are terrible... hard to clean, hard to see how many rounds are left, incredibly unstable when they fall to a rock ground or get some damage. we only use the transparent ones because since they are made out of pretty stable plastic where you can see everything, clean it easily and there is no danger of having a dent that destroys the entire mag :)

Swiss rifle, the commando version reserved for Grenadier special forces and swiss guard (of the pope). We trained with this rifle in the military here. 300 m targets (prone position), headshots without any modifications. We also get to keep this rifle after military conscription because in Switzerland you are automatically in the reserves after military duty. You are required to report to a shooting range yearly to continue be proficient with the rifle, and you have to send in your score card to your local military centre. Good rifle. Light, accurate, sturdy, easy maintenance and reliable. Swiss made ;)
there is an option whether to keep it or to return it back. Most keep it. We also have several other items to keep. Ammo in a sealed and closed box (only to be opened during war time), and other items next to our gear etc. If you open the ammo box during peacetime and have a home inspection, you are screwed. In the mandatory proficiency shooting exercises (yearly), free ammo will be provided to us. Our children go with us often, thus learn how to shoot then (prone position). In terms of pistols, only officers are also given Sig P220. If you are in Switzerland around train stations around weekends, you will see a lot of people in uniforms with the service rifle on their backs (compact mode). It is really comfortable to carry too. Another fact. All our bridges and tunnels are planted with explosives, same in WW2. If a foreign invader comes in, we blow everything up, immobilizing an enemy army. Sure, it has its toll on us as well, but imagine having several tank divisions that can't go anywhere and they cannot build 600 ft tall bridges to cross between alp canyons nor rebuild tunnels in no time while being under constant guerrilla attacks which is what we mostly train for. Trap, attack, and fall back before major reinforcements arrive. If you do this over time in an army that is immobilized (that can't really go anywhere), enemy troop morale will be down and peace treaties are more likely to be signed, with of course the aggressor paying for the repairs of the bridges and tunnels ;)
Milcomp illegal in US post-weapon ban, ESPECIALLY with an auto sear (fully automatic). Although I’m not sure semi automatic ones are even made lol. They sell Sig sg556 commando’s in the US, semi only of course, but they aren’t nearly as cool or as effective as these 552 commando’s.

Rock Face The 552 had a flaw in the recoil mechanism. They changed it in a new version which is the 553 that has the 550 older and more reliable recoil system.

And only almost identical parts of these guns are the trigger systems which is originally from m1 garand. The receiver of sig resembles more of an ar not anything like ak. Also the bolt and carriers are compleatly different. And what comes to the gas systems again do they have regulators? Sig yes, ak no besides saiga 12. Is that enough history and mechanics for you or shall i list all the differences of these firearms?

Got the SIG 550 in the Swiss Military, known as the Sturmgewehr (Assault Rifle) 90. My father had the SIG 510 Stgw 57, my grandfather back in the days had the K31 and my great-grandfather was using the so called "Langgewehr 11" (Long Rifle 11). You'll know it already, but yes, you can keep the Rifle after your Service (in the Half-Auto Trigger Version), so still shooting with it to thid day.
I was a Swiss Paratrooper, I love the weapon, I personally used the 551 Carbine, but on some patrols, I used the 552 and the 553, the 553 only just practicing at the range. It is very good mainly cause of the magazine.
There's a 540 developed before the 550. Licensed manufactured in France as an interim rifle and still used in Chile as standard service rifle, made in both 7.62×51 & 5.56×45 NATO.
The sig is one of my favorite rifles, the looks are different from every other rifle(it doesnt look like an ak or an m14 or a mp5 and stuf like that) and realy just the brute force it has for that little barrel
If you attach an ACOG scope and press the right mouse button, your head will stretch forward for about several inches then you should be able to see further targets
My swiss military service rifle was a SIG SG50 or STGW90 as its called in the Military, those things are accurate up to 600M on iron sights if your sight is good enough. You can shoot 1 franc coins accurately on 300M courses, no sweat
+matthieu pascal On my private sig i had to change the barrel. After doing that, they make a test with the gun. They basically fix it to a table and shoot ten rounds. Mine had a 98 average. And it doesnt mean 98 points in ten shots. it means in ten shots its in average 4mm from center.The gun is more then capable of shooting a coin repeatedly at 300m.

Hi ,I mostly agree with you . You have your dates a little mixed up .The Sturmgewehr 57 entered service in 1957 and replaced the K31 . In the early 80 the new Sturmgewehr 90 was developed and tested . It entered service in the early 90 until today .In this timeperiod the Stgw 57 was phased out . Hi Eric After the K31, the Swiss Army had the Stgw 57 - not the PE 57. The Stgw 57 is the full military version, the PE 57 is Semi Auto only for private ownership (Privateigenum - PE). In the same way, Swiss can buy the PE 90 which is a SIG 550 semi automatic only, without the full auto or 3-round burst.. BTW Stgw is the abbreviation for "Sturmgewehr", meaning assault rifle. Well being an American doesn't make it possible to own one of those… I am from Commifornia (California) and we can't have a magazine that holds over 10 bullets, a mag release (we have to have a bullet button), no full auto, no silencers, no guns under 30 inches, no sbrs, aows, or destructive weapons and to make it worse it is almost impossible to find an a r15, and don't even get me started on non-gun stuff like taxes. I am getting out of this state as soon as i can.
If you've ever been on a train in Switzerland, chances are you've seen one of these slung over a soldier's back. Soldiers in Switzerland get free public transport, and they are free to carry their weapons with them.

@@larsbomba4372 Only medics get the pistol by default. Although "combat medics" (idk how to translate it lol) gets the rifle as well. My friend was (and is caus requisitioned for covid hospitals relief) only got a pistol but he heard you can make a demand to get the rifle instead. As soon as you rank up tho you get the option of getting the current pistol regardless of the function, but by default even the cooks, accountants and attendents get the rifle.
Very good video and as a Swiss I am proud that you appreciate our craftsmanship and our marksmanship. But there are a few errors in your videos, may I point them? - The 1957 rifle is refered to as the Stg57 (or Fass57), the PE57 was the semi-auto version for the civilian market and had a slightly different lower (but you won't tell the difference without field-stripping the guns). - It was replaced in 1990 by the Stg90 (or Sig 550) but was completely retired from service in 2012, not around the mid 70's. - The 510 wasn't the prototype of the 550, Sig 510-1 refers to the Stg 57, the rifle above. - The prototype for the 550 was the 540. It was engeneered by Sig and produced by Manurhin in France. The first attempt for Sig to go with the 5.56 was the 530, but it was more of a 510 in 5.56 than an ancestor to the 540/550 wich are a direct inspiration from the ak-47 (It's an AK made by Rolex basicaly :p). - They tested a 6mm cartrige because they aknowleged the benefits of the AK rounds over the 5.56 but wanted good accuracy up to 500-600 meters (wich is impossible with7.62*39). They wanted to basicaly create a 6.8 SPC but with a little less mass and a little more velocity. They took the 5.56 because they were obligated by NATO but they still had a different size and shape of projectile to keep the long distance capabilities. - The 556 isn't the import version if i'm not mistaken, it's american made by sigUSA. That's all for the gripes, and I don't want to sound as a grumpy guy but just inform you. You should try a 551 or a 550, they are amazing at long ranges, and don't forget to check the twist of the barell to choose the ammo, there are 55X-1 version with 1/10 twist for the swiss ammo and 55X-2 versions with 1/7 twist for longer ammo. Did you know that all SG55X guns that get exported to other countries have rails added and a different bolt handle? the original SG550 (Stgw 90. in Switzerland) does not have a rail, and a more comfty bolt handle. also, while you're at the obligatory range (yes, military is obligatory for every man in switzerland) it is illegal to use any kind of scope or any different sight, and only single shot setting. If you're caught with a scope on it, or a different sight, or while you are in three round burst or auto, you'll get kicked out of range and you might get sued. Greetings from Switzerland
You can put it onto the SG55X rifles, but it requires a rail (as seen in the video) and a converter piece to a different rail, because the sight does not fit on the given rail.

the sg 552 has 2 fire rates available, 600 and 900 rpm. i am swiss and shoot this gun regularly. her recoil is more like the 900 rpm recoil, 600 rpm is fairly stable.
The Fass 57, in German the StG 57, was in service with the Attiva/Elite/Auszug units, age class 20 to 32, up to 1989, in 1990 we got the Fass 90. Artillery and other units got them later, Landwehr, 33 to 42 age class, and Landsturm, 43 to 52 age class, kept their Fas 57 to the end of their service days. The Swiss military had the last 57s in service some time in the mid 1990s, they then left service as the 43 to 52 age class was liberated from service obligations in 1995.

Got the SIG 550 in the Swiss Military, known as the Sturmgewehr (Assault Rifle) 90. My father had the SIG 510 Stgw 57, my grandfather back in the days had the K31 and my great-grandfather was using the so called "Langgewehr 11" (Long Rifle 11). You'll know it already, but yes, you can keep the Rifle after your Service (in the Half-Auto Trigger Version), so still shooting with it to thid day.

I was a Swiss Paratrooper, I love the weapon, I personally used the 551 Carbine, but on some patrols, I used the 552 and the 553, the 553 only just practicing at the range. It is very good mainly cause of the magazine.

There's a 540 developed before the 550. Licensed manufactured in France as an interim rifle and still used in Chile as standard service rifle, made in both 7.62×51 & 5.56×45 NATO.
The sig is one of my favorite rifles, the looks are different from every other rifle(it doesnt look like an ak or an m14 or a mp5 and stuf like that) and realy just the brute force it has for that little barrel

My swiss military service rifle was a SIG SG50 or STGW90 as its called in the Military, those things are accurate up to 600M on iron sights if your sight is good enough. You can shoot 1 franc coins accurately on 300M courses, no sweat

On my private sig i had to change the barrel. After doing that, they make a test with the gun. They basically fix it to a table and shoot ten rounds. Mine had a 98 average. And it doesnt mean 98 points in ten shots. it means in ten shots its in average 4mm from center.The gun is more then capable of shooting a coin repeatedly at 300m.
+flugsteig I don't think he was questioning the capabilities of the weapon as much as he was the shooter. I'm not familiar with the one franc coin, but hitting a coin repeatedly from 300m with irons is some serious fucking shooting.

Hi ,I mostly agree with you . You have your dates a little mixed up .The Sturmgewehr 57 entered service in 1957 and replaced the K31 . In the early 80 the new Sturmgewehr 90 was developed and tested . It entered service in the early 90 until today .In this timeperiod the Stgw 57 was phased out . After the K31, the Swiss Army had the Stgw 57 - not the PE 57. The Stgw 57 is the full military version, the PE 57 is Semi Auto only for private ownership (Privateigenum - PE). In the same way, Swiss can buy the PE 90 which is a SIG 550 semi automatic only, without the full auto or 3-round burst..
BTW Stgw is the abbreviation for "Sturmgewehr", meaning assault rifle.

I carried the Sig 551 sp SWAT carbine on duty for several years. Great rifle a combo of AR and AK. Runs amazing and very accurate. A tad muzzle heavy.

Well being an American doesn't make it possible to own one of those… I am from Commifornia (California) and we can't have a magazine that holds over 10 bullets, a mag release (we have to have a bullet button), no full auto, no silencers, no guns under 30 inches, no sbrs, aows, or destructive weapons and to make it worse it is almost impossible to find an a r15, and don't even get me started on non-gun stuff like taxes. I am getting out of this state as soon as i can.

My friend was (and is caus requisitioned for covid hospitals relief) only got a pistol but he heard you can make a demand to get the rifle instead.
As soon as you rank up tho you get the option of getting the current pistol regardless of the function, but by default even the cooks, accountants and attendents get the rifle.

Very good video and as a Swiss I am proud that you appreciate our craftsmanship and our marksmanship.
But there are a few errors in your videos, may I point them?
- The 1957 rifle is refered to as the Stg57 (or Fass57), the PE57 was the semi-auto version for the civilian market and had a slightly different lower (but you won't tell the difference without field-stripping the guns).
- It was replaced in 1990 by the Stg90 (or Sig 550) but was completely retired from service in 2012, not around the mid 70's.
- The 510 wasn't the prototype of the 550, Sig 510-1 refers to the Stg 57, the rifle above.
- The prototype for the 550 was the 540. It was engeneered by Sig and produced by Manurhin in France. The first attempt for Sig to go with the 5.56 was the 530, but it was more of a 510 in 5.56 than an ancestor to the 540/550 wich are a direct inspiration from the ak-47 (It's an AK made by Rolex basicaly :p).
- They tested a 6mm cartrige because they aknowleged the benefits of the AK rounds over the 5.56 but wanted good accuracy up to 500-600 meters (wich is impossible with7.62*39). They wanted to basicaly create a 6.8 SPC but with a little less mass and a little more velocity. They took the 5.56 because they were obligated by NATO but they still had a different size and shape of projectile to keep the long distance capabilities.
- The 556 isn't the import version if i'm not mistaken, it's american made by sigUSA.
That's all for the gripes, and I don't want to sound as a grumpy guy but just inform you.
You should try a 551 or a 550, they are amazing at long ranges, and don't forget to check the twist of the barell to choose the ammo, there are 55X-1 version with 1/10 twist for the swiss ammo and 55X-2 versions with 1/7 twist for longer ammo.

Did you know that all SG55X guns that get exported to other countries have rails added and a different bolt handle?
the original SG550 (Stgw 90. in Switzerland) does not have a rail, and a more comfty bolt handle.
also, while you're at the obligatory range (yes, military is obligatory for every man in switzerland) it is illegal to use any kind of scope or any different sight, and only single shot setting.
If you're caught with a scope on it, or a different sight, or while you are in three round burst or auto, you'll get kicked out of range and you might get sued.

You can put it onto the SG55X rifles, but it requires a rail (as seen in the video) and a converter piece to a different rail, because the sight does not fit on the given rail.

the sg 552 has 2 fire rates available, 600 and 900 rpm. i am swiss and shoot this gun regularly. her recoil is more like the 900 rpm recoil, 600 rpm is fairly stable.

The Fass 57, in German the StG 57, was in service with the Attiva/Elite/Auszug units, age class 20 to 32, up to 1989, in 1990 we got the Fass 90.
Artillery and other units got them later, Landwehr, 33 to 42 age class, and Landsturm, 43 to 52 age class, kept their Fas 57 to the end of their service days.
The Swiss military had the last 57s in service some time in the mid 1990s, they then left service as the 43 to 52 age class was liberated from service obligations in 1995.

JTMC93 well the two are made by different companies now, the 556 is made by Sig Sauer while the military 550 variants are made by SAN Swiss AG.

SG 5xx pro tip from Switzerland for all you American gun TH-camrs: the cool and efficient way to open the folding stock is to make a fist with your right and give it a nice hard smack on the opposite side, right near the bottom end of the butt pad.
