It is hail not snow. You wouldn't hear snow hitting the windows. It's not very common to hail this much but it is not very common to have 20C in December either. Both are extremes and unusual. The average is probably around 15 or so. The sea is about the same. January and Feb are slightly colder though.

thats a scary thought ive been malta loads and honestly i didnt know it got bad storms and bad hale storms cos the worst i saw of malta was it rained

Malta and Gozo Autumn and mid winter has downpours that'd scare weather hardened Brits.
When hail gets washed into deep drifts like this, it's completely unexpected and crazy, regardless of where in the world it occurs.
