    I got one of the earlier JCM2000 DSL50s, a 98. Literally its never had an issue except for a bad Bridge Rectifier and input jack (both fixed for less than $5 in parts). It is single handedly the most versatile amp ive ever seen. There is something for everyone in this thing and utterly dependable. Love this thing

    I thin kyou nailed with what you said about the JCM800 guys. I have a JCM2000 DSL 100 and it slays. Really versatile amps with a great clean channel. So much so that I sold my 800s as I can get almost identical tone with it with proper EQ. I play prog metal and everything with my band using it. The early ones had some issues but nothing more than a lot of other amps. These can be biased right off the back with no need to pull the chassis too.

    This has been my dream amp for years. I grew up on metal and remembered seeing someone play it then got into a super pop punk phase and Knuckle Puck used one with a Mesa Stiletto and their tone was fantastic. They'd been used by MCR and other bigger bands too. Going back into metal again, I'd seen Gary Holt loved them and Crypta (my favourite band) used them live and I absolutely adore the tone they got.
    In short; fucking phenomenal and quite versatile amps.

    I have 100w and it's great. Not using tone shift, but deep switch is great, amp sounds much bigger with it. Lead 1 for thrashy tones and these days i use crunch mode on channel 1 with centura overdrive pedal, such a good sound. That pedal gives so much fullness to the tone, you can get amazing rock tones with it. Great playing and stuff! Great demo of this amp. I just got a used JCM2000 DSL50 a few days ago. I've been using a JCM2000 TSL60 since I bought it new in 2000. Very happy w the DSL50. Really surprised how much better the clean channel mode sounds compared to the clean channel on the TSL60. Night and day. Also the series FX loop on the DSL is a huge upgrade over the parallel FX loop on the TSL60. The reverb is also noticeably better on the DSL. Lead1 in the Ultra Gain channel sounds somewhat similar to the Crunch mode or Lead mode on the TSL60...but again the DSL just sounds better to my ears. It's also more tweakable. On the TSL60 I'm sorta stuck with only a few good settings for distortion...but every tiny tweak of the gain know and EQ on the DSL gives me lots of great tones. Nice to have 2 Marshall heads. This DSL is a keeper!

    I made the hige mistake of selling mine during lockdown because I needed the space. Had it running through an 8ohm JCM900 4x12 cab with Vintage 30's. Ended up picking up a Fender Hot Rod III and I've ended up spending loads on pedals trying to reclaim some kind of decent disorted tone. If you have one, don't let it go... you'll regret it.

  • @guitarexpert2245

    On lead channel 2, gain can't be more than 3 or it gets flubby. But at 3 it's very tight & meaty. Channel 1 not more than 6. Put a clean boost in the loop, it really thickens up the amp.

    I've had this amp for past 3 years sold my 1982 JCM 2204 and got this instead. Why? 2204 NO effects loop. way to freaking loud, and not a tone of gain more a crunch amp and had to be really loud to get crunchy. Not the 2000. It's has so much gain for a Marshall retaining the Marshall tone. Has much more low end thump at lower volumes & has a great clean sound. They go for about $600-$700 now. STill can't beat that. Excellent video, so glad you used a real cabinet and not an I.R. The key with lead 2 channel is to keep the gain no higher than 3 so it stays tight. Lead 1 no higher than 7.

    I have this and a Mesa Rectoverb 50. They seem roughly equivalent, but the high gain on the Marshall seems to have a bit more hair on it. I find it lends itself better to classic rock and crunch tones whereas the Mesa shines at the thrash tones, especially when you put an SD-1 in front. The clean on both amps is very much the difference between Vox and Fender.

    Hey, I love you channel.
    I know the JCM2000 have many issues that probably ruined their reputation, but I also don’t think they sound bad by any means, just like the 900 series.
    Anyway, I don’t understand how the output transformer blew up if you connected to a 16 ohm cab. The danger is when you run a head, for instance, at 16 ohm into an 8 ohm cab. As long as the cab impedance is higher or the same, you should be fine.
    Mesa manuals even encourage you to play with mismatched impedance, in fact many Mesa, if not most, don’t have a 16 ohm output anymore.

    • @belligerentamateur
      @belligerentamateur  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The switching on them was bad. I don't know the exact details but these amps are notoious for the internal impedance switch getting stuck, and it would in turn blow the transformer over time because the ones MArshall used in these amps are notoriously weak. It happened to mine and I'm super careful about impedance.

      The cab doesn't matter. It's the impedance switch within the amp that is the issue. It's notorious for getting stuck and not switching the the impedance it's set at.

      IF you're asking my opinion, I personally prefer the DSL50. The JVM's are even more modern and compressed. The TSL's are great too but they're a little thinner than the DSL, good if you're tuning real low but can be tough to get a thick tone in D standard

To make it variable, just replace R43 (*existing 10k) with a linear 10k pot, such as the Bourns 51AAD-B24-A15L and wire the pot to the R43 board location. Use the deep switch hole location in the chassis to mount the new pot. Rock on! \m/
