    This actually happened a second time. Same issue, starter didn’t have continuity so I ended up having the shop install a different brand and am hoping this one holds out longer than a year 😂 this is starter #3

      Glad you got it fixed. The starter is not right there. It's one of the worst stars I've ever had to do. You can't even see it. It's probably a ground wire

    You make it sound simple. It's not always. If it's not the relay and it's not the stater, it might be the solenoid or the wiring connection going to the solenoid, or the neutral safety switch is bad or a bad ignition switch.

    It is highly possible that if the starter wire connections are corroded and the process of pulling them off and putting them on the new starter caused continuity to come back and the system work properly without it needing a new starter. It's always easier to convince yourself that it was bad than to admit the possibility it was replaced when it wasn't needed. Any time you unhook or pull apart connectors corrosion will be removed to a certain extent sometimes in mild cases it's all you need to happen to cause proper flow of power and the component to function again.

  • @tomshumaker9144
    @tomshumaker9144 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    The problem was a bad connection on the starter. The wire from the relay to the starter is a push on connector on the starter and corrodes. Clean the connector and you are done.

    Over the winter I had the starter wires come loose, that fixed the starter issue, my transmission over temp light came on lead to a bad water pump about a week after the trans light over temp came back on now I'm looking into anything related to the fan because it is not turning on

  • @whytechaulklat8104

    Probably a bad wire that needed to be cleaned or repaired (if you’re replacing starters left and right.. I got sucked into that until I checked the starter that got replaced with jumpers and a screwdriver surprisingly it worked most repair shops will have you believe it was starter so I’d always ask for it back going forward

    I am having a similar issue with my Jeep. The engine turned over and then died off about 3 seconds later. Got a jump and it wouldn't turn over at all after that. Took it into the shop with a warranty on the starter. They said it was not the starter. Said it was the security system on the ignition. They were getting an error code. I've got it at the dealer right now and they installed a new Skim Module. Now they are saying that the entire computer system needs to be replaced because the computer PIN was changed at some point. I can either provide the "Original" PIN (I have no idea what that could be) or get the entire computer system replaced.....Any thoughts?

      Hello sir, wondering what your decision was in the end. Engine shutting off after starting can be related to the cpu, or in my case my key. My key was soaking wet and i dried it off under a hair dryer and worked just fine.
      I see this is 2 months later so you already dropped the money on the new starter or cpu but just want to know whats up, thanks.

    What does everyone think about the GC SRT from 2014 onwards? Is this a shitter or did C/F put better gear in this?

    • @CarsCouches
      @CarsCouches  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s definitely got a better trans and engine however there are a lot of electronics in it, more electronics = more that can go wrong. We have a 2012 GC 5.7 in the family, similar electrical to the 2014’s and it’s been at the dealer for the seatbelt sensor, rain sensor, air bag passenger sensor, hi-beam sensor so yeahh. The 2005 I have only had the rain sensor issue but it also had 2 starters, transfer shift motor and an alternator replaced, but that was well into the 10 year mark. The 2012 had issues since we got it.

      @@CarsCouches Well my '02 GC Overland has the 4.7HO in it. Largely been a great car for most of its life with the only issues in replacing window regulators & the front speakers. Then in 2014, my heater blend doors went & in the process of repair I damaged the AC condenser. That meant pulling the whole dash out & replacing - prick of a job. Anyhow she's never been the same since. Transmission shift issues, no crank issues - I find if I hold the key in crank position for 5 - 10 secs it finally cranks & starts 2nd or 3rd time. Pity, it was a great car up until then...

      Mine went bad really quickly, they replaced it and it worked fine. If you went somewhere for the starter I’d suggest inquiring with them, if you did it yourself you can at least try tapping the starter and possibly taking the starter off and testing it somehow.

      Have you tried testing the battery? If the starter is cranking but nothing it happening it might just need extra juice. I’d call a tow truck to bring their portable battery charger or if you own one, charge the battery as much as you can and try starting the car. You can also get the battery tested at an autoparts store.

    Great vid man. I'm 16 and I was really considering buying a 2006-2009 grand Cherokee for my first car. Would you recommend this as a good first car. How bad does it eat gas? Do you have an unlimited v8?

    • @CarsCouches
      @CarsCouches  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Travo Thanks! Really depends on your budget, Jeeps tend to have a lot of problems. This one had 2 starters, a transfer shift motor and ignition switch replaced so far and it has 98k miles. I'd stay away unless this is your only option because you want a 4x4 car. Gas is terrible, I get 15-16 on a good day and maybe 18 highway. But the car drives very nicely and I do enjoy it.

      Depends with any vehicle how it was driven,maintained etc..Plus with age it doesn't matter the mileage as tings get old,they break..
      2008 Grand Cherokee is better as they have more power the 4.7 V-8 jumped from 235 to 305 ..
      2009 The Hemi went from 2005-2008 the 5.7 Hemi had 330 - in 2009 it went to 360 h.p...
      Probably average 15-18 depending on how you drive these ..Mix/city/hwy..Not bad on gas..
      I owned 2 myself,Parents owned them since 1993 bought new every 4 years..I drove them more..Had a 2005 trouble free for 136,000 miles..Oil Change's,brake rotor/pads like any vehicle would need ! 1 tune up !! The only thing to fail was the battery and serpentine belt (70,000 miles started to squeak ) Never stranded or failed to start..I owned a 2010 both were 5.7 Hemi's..120,000 trouble free miles..Did noting to it...Sold it in 2014..
      Good Luck !

    Definitely not as simple as many think. I own a 2006, 5.7 Hemi Jeep Commander. It, unfortunately, loves to randomly strand me. Crank No start or No Crank No Start. Turns out it's not just the yellow trigger (corrosion) wire to the starter solenoid. Check all grounds throughout the car. (more corrosion) Chrysler managers/executives were in panic mode when Dalimer-Benz took over. From 2005 to 2013, the company's wiring is problematic throughout all lines. Chrysler leaders skimped on parts, quality, and testing. They behaved in a job preservation mentality. Dalimer-Benz insisted on sophisticated, Bus Com Port Wiring, single wire two way communication; 20 or more sensors, having to report back to the brain, The "ECU". Untested & poor design of the the cowl allows rain to drain right over-top of the ECU. (corrosion) Defective sunroof drains easily & commonly clog, which flood, the front foot wells. Under the carpet of these foot wells, are multiple bundles of wires. (corrosion). The ECU after 20 + or - sensors report back; has the job of sending ground (connectivity) to the starter relay, fuel pump, and fuel injectors. The two boxes; relay and fuse box, are complete junk. $400-$500 each. The exhaust manifold bolts, universally break and allow heat soak to entire engine compartment & transmission, causing transmission overheat lights. Two exhaust straps around the muffler allow more corrosion and heat soak to the transmission. So what's a guy to do. It's a love hate relationship. My Commander is juiced & has upgraded braking. It's a thrill to drive and the exhaust note is music to the ear. I'm a long way from giving up. As a community everyone, please share any insights you know or gain about Jeep issues & fix's!
