    After many years of back pain I was diagnosed with degenerative discs at L4 - L5 and L5 - S1. Recently the pain has been unbearable. I discovered this video a couple of days ago and tried the exercises more out of hope than expectation of any improvement. I am now virtually pain free after a couple of days. Thank you so much for uploading this video.

      Omg same here. I have herniated discs in the same areas you mentioned and recently my sciatica has been just on and off non stop. Before I used to get sciatic pain once in a while maybe two or three times a year. In the recent months is almost weekly. I go to acupuncture, get biweekly deep tissue massages. Do stretches, and even bought a massage fun to massage the areas that are tight. I use a tens unit when I'm sitting down at work just so I can work comfortably. I don't know what else to try anymore. I'm gonna try these exercises but what else have you tried or helped you.

      @@Nana-1908 if you can afford it, a spinal decompression machine twice weekly has helped me tremendously. I use it at a chiropractor‘s office. It’s not cheap, but has helped my sciatica that goes into my toe. I have scoliosis and driving is the worst. Make sure you use a wedge in your car for sitting also.

    I looked this up out of desperation because sometimes I injure my lower back (caused by improper movement or lifting). When this happens, it's difficult to sleep. When I did the last stretch in this video, my lower back cracked and I FELT that in my whole body. WHAT THE F! Instant relief! I did the rest of the stretches as well and I feel SO much better. I will add these to some of my regular routines. I see many others you've helped with this video too. Many thanks!

    Wow. Exercises that work, brilliantly explained/shown. This has been a complete lifesaver after months of back pain and (sort of) sciatica. Well done. Weirdly I'd kind of created my own exercise in desperation, largely by trial and error similar to one of these but so good to have proper scientifically based advice. Will be watching out for more for sure.

    Hi Doc, recently I've been lying on my back on the ground with a foam roller placed under my sacrum (Legs bent with their weight acting down on to my feet). It feels great and looks a lot like the kind of stretch you would get from the last position in this video. My question is: Is this safe to do? I haven't seen it recommended or discouraged but I am relatively inexperienced. Love the vids, they're great help. Thanks.

    • @DrRowe
      @DrRowe  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Interesting. You may find that putting a pillow or towel over the foam roller will help with comfort too.

    Sofa thing worked a treat. Not brave enough to get stuck on the sofa, ever had the pain you would understand, found a wall at the right height, just above belly button. Quietly lent over,then a bit further and relax. 15 minutes later eureka. Wish I knew this when I was really knackered for a year 2 years ago, CHEERS.X.

    Does these streches even increases the space between vertebraes ??

    Thank you for sound practical exercises that are effective without needing to invest in expensive equipment or trips to a therapy center. Something I discovered on my own which doesn't get much mention in any channel is to simply stretch my legs to maximum extension while laying in bed (don't do this on a worn out mattress - firm or extra firm is good) and hold in that position for a while. This provides an incredible amount of relief (at least for me - YMMV). You do apply this concept in some of your exercises. I just wanted to point out this simple in bed stretch as it yields a lot of benefit and has the same advantages as your exercises.

    Started your therapy for severe sciatica attack 4 days ago, getting some relief. Thank you! I have noticed my right foot has rotated to the right ; I can't actually put flat on floor. Would you be able to comment on this? Many thanks, JJG

      I'm glad the exercises are giving relief. As for the foot, my best advice is to get it looked at by your local doctor. They can do an exam and give you the best diagnosis. Thanks for watching!

    Thank you Dr Rowe. i was convinced i had piriformis syndrome (sharp pain in center of my buttocks down to my foot)and worked on those stretches that you recommeded for about a week but the sciatica presisted. so i tried your home decompression therapy techniques and all i can say is WOW! pressure was relieved almost immediately. tried it right before bed and was able to sleep thru the night without the discomfort.

    What do you recommend for a low back seized in extension? I’ve been trying to get mobility in my L1-L5 for years now without any luck…it’s so tight and frozen that I can barely force any movement unless I’m in a full “Asian” squat in front of my couch and then pull down by pushing up on the couch…

    Can a slightly compressed disc cause back spasms? My MRI is clear for herniated or bulging discs, although one disc is slightly compressed, however I still suffer from sciatica and back spasms.
