Holy freaking crap the fact that so many people in the analog horror fandom are literally dunking on this guy's mediocre series is so... just so bad I never thought something like that would ever happen, Urban should've taken the criticisms to heart and actually improve his series.
there's a problem with urbanspook not a lot of people seem to mention and it's that literally every character in the series seems to exist for the sole purpose of being a victim that usually dies in literally the very episode they're introduced in which leaves very little room for their death to actually be shocking or impactful to the story in any meaningful way, they're basically ragdolls that only serve the purpose of scaring the audience by dropping dead when the writer needs them to after urbanslug remembers the series is supposed to be about horror. this is what makes urbanspook not scary. there's no characters, only a vague story with no end in sight
What I enjoy about other series such as TMC is that they actually give depth to their characters to give them personalities even when they die (like Mark)

I love the fact that UrbanSpook claims Pastra, a member of the horror community known for being overly positive and optimistic, is somehow the toxic one for calling his series shock value, yet he imediately goes in swinging with extreme verbal assult making sure to fit all the offensive words and bigotted things he can into his seething tantrum just because a notable community member said he didn't like his series.

It's funny because the group he insulted pastra for is actually quite likely to have run into some dark stuff online, especially considering the age demographic many of them have. Maybe the younger ones wouldn't have as much experience, but the older ones were still on 4chan and stuff before the internet had more moderation and even Google images would toss horrific shit at people at random with safe search on. I remember seeing necrotic limbs and shit just because I wanted to see some snakes and spiders.
Dont take me as fully supporting it but the series does have some type of story with the painters/killers, it just gets a bit repetetive the format its shown in of "murder, painting connected to murder"

The idea of a serial killer using paintings of their victims as a calling card is a really interesting concept that could’ve lead to some really interesting mysteries and artistry, the actual artistry and images are VERY haunting at times and if it weren’t for the stories behind them I would’ve been way more invested in the series But the fact that there’s no respect for the dead in the series and it’s just played off for shock removes the whole point of what makes these series so interesting, I don’t want to hear about a woman being raped by a horse or an 11 year olds corpse being called a “fucktoy”, it’s uncomfortable and not in a good way.

Instead of having actual depth or reason behind them it’s just edgy squeamish content to purposely make people uncomfortable. The person killing has no known motive and is just treated as “fucked up character does fucked up things”. It’s almost exactly the same issue people had with how Dormitabis wrote their version purple guy.
I can read about these subjects if the story's worth it and these things LEAD to something and if the characters and such are interesting. I haven't gone into the series but I did read Berserk and it has these things going on while still having a payoff.

I might make a re-take of urbanspook or something where it focuses more on the killer and all the murders don’t happen in the same area, but in multiple areas, so it seems that the killer is everywhere. Also there would be some shock, but it wouldn’t be anything like the horse or Cory.

Thank you for making this video, I did genuinely like his content to a certain extent for awhile but UrbanSpook’s og response to Pastra’s comment is the reason why I don’t support him anymore. The fact that he blatantly uses the word “autistic” as an insult and just flat out just calls Pastra names for a tame ass comment, then delete his own account, reinstalls it a few hours/days later then basically says “lol sorry I got a bit heated but also not sorry cause you’re an idiot baby man” shows that he probably shouldn’t be using serious subject matter for his youtube series.
Honestly I’m not too bothered by the rather explicit source material but the way it’s being presented isn’t really in a way that it should be. It feels oddly immature in nature. That and the creator of the series is probably not exactly mentally sound… setting that aside and attempting to set my personal distaste of depictions of children being potentially molested and killed (as hard as it is) the work isn’t even that good.
The story is somewhat interesting. But I’m just there for the lore by now…even the fact that it is incredibly difficult to read. But I guess I have to remember that some people in the real world are child molesters. The real world isn’t all squeaky clean like a dang Disney movie. I’m sure UrbanSlug puts a lot of work into the paintings, but I think he could do a lot more with his creepy imagery than just “they all died really badly lmao”. He has absolutely potential, it’s too bad he responded so poorly how he did. Giving him benefit of the doubt, he’s probably frustrated as he clearly puts effort into the paintings, and feels like they aren’t appreciated. Hopefully he can recover and take criticism better in the future.
I do genuinely think that the image of the killer with the sunken eyes, purple skin and stitched mouth is really creepy, and that audio recording done in the last episode was genuinely chilling, but everything else is just kinda meh.
urban spook had a great set up, but it just kept getting deliberately more shocking and I just didn't like it anymore, if he returns to form of a painter who paints his murders and leaves the horse out the pasture it could get better.
The series took an incredibly steep decline after the fifth episode. It contained a pretty brutal murder or possibly two, but it stayed on track. PIGS took a complete 180°, and while yes bRuTaL dEaThS yada yada, it just felt like pointless gore. FAMILY almost felt like damage control, until the 911 call happened. (I still think the VA did a good job though.) Is this supposed to be a series about catching a killer, or the story of a 2010s serial killer OC?
@@dreamcorewarlock I actually really liked the ‘Creepy/Disturbing PSA’ feeling of the first two episodes. Like you mentioned, Pigs sought a massive decline in quality, as it strayed away from the ‘PSA’ feeling of previous episodes with overtly loud and pointless sound effects and screaming, with pointless, gross gore. It lost its unique PSA feeling, and felt more like the generic analog horror we all know. The series also lost its cool ‘investigation’ plot, as its now just devolved to detectives finding random gruesome murder sites, who coincidentally know how the victims died, but don’t find any key/important evidence to finding who the culprits are, despite how brutal and, most likely, messy the murders are. The Family episode looks like it tried to bring in the feeling of investigation/mystery back, but it’s certainly not enough. Instead of a dark and chilling serial killer mystery, it just feels like gross, uncreative gore p0rn with not much of a connecting story. And of course, with UrbanSpook not being able to keep his mouth shut and turning so many people against him for his highly concerning views and merchandise choice, it’s most likely that this series is at its anticlimactic dead end.

The most recent one with the horse had me like… ☹️☹️☹️… When are we getting back to the serial killers and not the horse on drugs…
I love Pastra. Dude's a real one for sure. Urbanslug's paintings themselves are actually really good, but that's the only thing the series have going for it
The first two episodes were fantastic, and showed an excellent proof on concept. The story was developing slightly, but I quite frankly think the series has gone on for way to fucking long at this point, and for little to no reason. We are no closer to knowing who the killers are, there are countless paintings still without bodies attached, endless questions, and content that now is just gore-porn. That’s it. It’s like the story is an after thought, or rather, an excuse to draw and depict women getting raped by horses or children getting implicitly sexually assaulted.

Imma throw my hat into the ring with what little I know, a series stagnating into a case of “the killer does wacky shenanigans and the police don’t even have as much as any leads besides the fact he looks like a tumor” kinda is a strike against it for me. Sure a series can be long and still be good, but as far as I know the closest thing we have to even identifying them is their faces, no more leads. I’ve found more enjoyment in the Mandela catalogue, even the real. While urbanspook when I watched it for the first time was interesting, it just got repetitive, you can only do wacky fantastical killings so many times before it’s like “just find the darn killer already!”

It didn't help matters much when I found out more about urbanSlugs past works and how he handled criticism. This time however, it came around to bite him in his ass.

I actually laughed several times when I watched 8-bitRyan's video on the series. It just seemed so unrealistic and over the top that it took me out of it. Like a kid's idea of what being brutal and edgy is. The paintings are well done and very haunting, but that's kind of where it ends. We had stuff like this in the early 2000s, we called it "torture porn." Like Hostel or Saw what starts off as a spooky concept just becomes gross and silly as time goes on.
I loved the part where the killer casually dumped a human sized amount of industrial wax on a guy sitting exactly in the middle of his room without him noticing.

Not only is urban spook edgy and annoying but he also tried selling merchandise in the most cheap and basic way possible, I may have not watched his content but Jesus Christ it already reeks of greed and controversy.
I don’t care about his choice of words, or his shock value, but its slipping - anyone who knows true crime, no; just police procedure would be put off by the video where the detective dies and the cops don’t immediately either a) double down or b) Call in outside help and these two remain in the same area, and then the series tries to play itself off as “realistic” while a duo keep getting away with scores of murders and have the time to paint them is a note of concern
Uggggggggh I was fairly indifferent towards Urban for a while because of possible cultural/language barriers since he's from Sweden (a comment I made was pinned on the Regarding Urbanspook defense vid for a while) but I'm throwing that all the window now. It's really obvious that he's on a high horse all the time (no pun intended) and thinks that any less-than friendly criticism isn't valid. You're not free from being critiqued just because you put effort into something, *especially* if that effort is put in all the wrong places. And yeah, it's understandable he'd be frustrated from all the times he was literally demonized for a while, but did he never stop to consider *why* that was and that he could benefit from improving the series based on that? Jfc

I enjoy extreme horror, and I enjoyed UrbanSpook's videos, because as brutal and disgusting as they are, people can be just as brutal and it's interesting to see that reflected in horror media. But I can't respect him after the way he responded to this situation. I absolutely understand why Pastra feels the way they do about the series, and that's totally okay. The way UrbanSpook responded to their criticism is just immature. Ironic that they insinuate Pastra is too much of a coward to enjoy their content, then proceed to have a full blown meltdown over valid criticism.

I'll be the one to say it. There's was a lot of unrealized potential with UrbanSpook's Painter series. I had a good fistful of theories, and headcanon as to why the slippery little sewer rat did what he did. Most of it being paranormal in nature, but I feel like a lot of my theories are gonna be wrong. I like the concept of the Painter being this slave of fate so to speak. A psychic who can see into the future, and must enact on these visions for fear of what would happen if he did not. That's a cool concept for a villain! However I don't think we're gonna be getting that. Aw well. Just another missed opportunity.
I like to think the Painters were escaped CIA test subjects whose brains got fucked up by whatever psilocybin strain the organization concocted to use for future chemical warfare purposes :3

I agree. Vita Carnis probably has its flaws but never once did I think it was just edgy for no reason. The concept behind it is way scarier to me personally.
Personally, I liked the Painter series. I liked that they described the murder, showed the painting, then did nothing else, because like 8BitRyan said, "your brain fills in the gaps" and its that part that sticks with me and is why that series is the analog horror I fear the most (so far). But damn did Urban Slug respond poorly lol.

ngl I did kind of like it too, but I won't lie if I said you could remove most of the graphic scenes, just leave the paintings for the police to find, and then make the videos revolve more around detective work. the story would have easily had much more substance. there's so many better ways this could've been approached. too bad Urb's behavior instantly turned me off from the series LMFAO.

If there's an audience who genuinely likes Human Centipede, can you really be surprised there's an audience for this? That's the vibe this series gives me, it's Human Centipede but make it analog horror. I don't think that's a necessarily bad thing either, people like what they like, it's not the first/last time it'll happen, some people are just into gore. When we have reddit 50/50, this is honestly baby stuff to some of the real things I've seen from playing.

It also pushes things so far beyond believable for me that it enters the same realm as the show Hannibal, or that famous Serbian Film (I think thats what the title is), or the asian horror Audition, or the book/movie that talks about Soylent Green which is actually made out of people! We even have true crime fanatics talking about real people with real friends and family, and there are people who make videos describing cartel murder clips from the deep web so people can know what's in them without seeing it for real. This is so beyond tame compared to half of the rest of the internet, you just haven't looked hard enough yet.

Reminds me even of a movie that takes the realistic "getting kidnapped abroad" concept, but mashes it together with a mentally disturbed German doctor who wanted to recreate a medical diagram he saw! Even if urbanspook isn’t considered analog horror to some, there’s things like the real, Warsaw machine, the tangi virus, the entirety of the monument mythos, children under the house, winter of 83, even Gemini, local 58, friggin Mandela catalogue and forky’s content that’s so, SO much better than content that’s edge for the sake of edge, and looking back on the content urbanspook makes, all it really has is pictures and no spooktacular demons going for it, but even that doesn’t hold much water when the creator handles criticism like a child (To clarify, while he might’ve put tons of effort into his work, I’m not gonna say it’s marvelous “because it’s meant to be raw” or something like that, I just don’t see it as really engaging when it feels like who knows how long it’s been with the cops trying to track down this guy, and they just keep running in circles like a drunk hamster, it has potential, the dude has loads of talent, but in my honest opinion it went from interesting and full of mystery, to basically just expecting the killers to pull some looney toons contraption out of hammer space so they can turn a guy into felt or something)

@Beepers559 when I say "edgy" I'm exaggerating a bit. Minor spoilers: you see a kid die but that's it really. It's not really done for shock value, especially since you see it coming from a mile away. You don't see anything like sexual assault or anything like that
Honestly the whole format of the series hinged on shock for the sake of shock and nothing else, and if that’s all you have your only real option is to try and one-up yourself when it comes to shocking content. But there will inevitably come a point where that’s impossible or it goes so overboard that it just becomes ridiculous and can’t be taken seriously. This is the exact reason I don’t like the Crossed series either. It just becomes a matter of Same Shit, Different Day. This is a dilemma that I think every content creator over maybe 2K subs will start to realize. If you care about the positive comments where people are praising you, you’re also going care about the negative comments, you won’t be able to shrug it off. What’s worse is that you eventually get acclimated to appraisal until you feel nothing towards it, and 100 positive comments means nothing, but one negative comment destroys you. That’s kinda just the path you go down if you care too much about what others think. I think the best you can do is just force yourself to look at opinions analytically and never take them to heart, whether they’re saying you’re the goat or the worst
My other two cents because I don’t know what happened to the other comment I posted: The creator spoke in a previous Reddit thread that his series was not meant to be realistic or even that deep with a thought out storyline (I’m paraphrasing, his actual comment was much longer), so it really was just shock value. So I’m confused as to why he is mad about people saying that there was nothing but shock value when he admitted that there wasn’t meant to be a coherent story in the first place. Like, if it’s only meant to be a showcase of shocking horror, with no plot, just be honest about it and own it.

I remember back when analog horror first caught on and the Mandela Catalogue came out, a lot of people started taking jabs at the genre, specifically the whole liquified face thing (pretty much starting from Gabriel) and other posts comparing him to Jerma sus. However, Alex Kister, the creator of the Mandela Catalogue, didn't have a meltdown. Instead, he made a joke video embracing the memes about it. And that's a very mature, and also very funny response. When compared to this, the creator of UrbanSpook just seems like one of those edgy teenagers that shows other kids beheadings at school because he thinks it's funny (I knew people like that in high school, they exist). That and the classic ableism and furry hate, he seems like the embodiment of edgy teenager. "Extreme Horror" just sounds like a joke.
It's a good thing I stopped watching that pile of slop series after absorbing enough information about Urbanspook. Pastra deserves a gold medal (no, platinum) for earning the gall to give Urban the Touch of Death straight after he rebutted his justification against him!

there is ONE rule to consider when trying to make something disturbing without overstepping any lines: dont include sex crime. pretty much everything else disturbing could be attributed to just being edgy, or just trying really hard to make something like that. once you start including sex crime, it only ever really makes people question whats wrong with YOU. i learned this from Dormitabis. its a good example on where to set your boundaries when making something horror related.

So glad someone else is making a statement about this. I had your video sent to me by a friend (bc we both like horror projects on YT) while I was watching his stuff. Even as someone who turns the lights on while watching horror content, there was literally nothing of substance I saw in that series. The "story" (if you can even call it that) was just a series of descriptions of gruesome murders (what someone in the comments of "Pigs" described as a "splatterpunk picture book" which I think is incredibly accurate) and the occasional art piece to accompany the description. The descriptions and topics in the story were also needlessly detailed just for the sake of being edgy. I'm all for shock value, mind you: I think adding things for shock value can be wonderful and thrilling if done properly. There's just a way to include those edgy and dark topics in a media and make them have sustenance while also treating said topics with respect; like someone else here said, you have to be a mature person to be able to do that. UrbanSpook as a series really misses the mark for me personally, even if the guy wasn't grown as fuck and selling merch of what is essentially a depiction of child SA and murder then crying about the "triggered snowflakes" coming for his "art" whenever he gets rightfully criticized for it. UrbanSlug seems super insecure and immature and I don't think he should have as much room as he does to be so because his stuff is not super great to me. I hate when people try to channel the Andrew Tate whenever they face criticism saying stuff akin to "the Matrix is out to get me!" as if somehow this is mob mentality rearing its head and people are just dogpiling for no reason. The guy doesn't seem to get that the content itself wasn't as huge of a problem as he thinks it is. All in all, this whole project would have just been better as a creepypasta and not the big wet fart of a video series it is. Also, he should not be selling merch depicting child murder and SA. That's just my thoughts on it; thank you for sharing your take as well.
Honestly i like the shock value...and it's well executed shock horror. But apart from that, it brings nothing new to the table. It plays to our basest fears, not the truest heights of of terror or the deepest depths of horror. Urbanspook's entire schtick is "There're some real sickos out there. Don't trust anyone." That's it. The only reason i watch to the end is that it's very well executed. But the Mystery Flesh Pit and its sister projects turn heads in the post-Peele world precisely because it doesn't rely on monsters and caricatures of the insane to horrify. The real terror there is that humanity's first thought when encountering an ancient eldritch organism is how to make money from it. Because we all know thats what would really happen.

Excuse me..? I don't know Pastra personally, but they're one of my favorite horror TH-camrs because he'll try to find something positive in anything! The only time he really dug into something on his channel was with Hello Neighbor, where he just genuinely couldn't find anything good to say about the final product. If Pastra can find the most miniscule thing they liked, they'll say it. So basically, if you leave Pastra with nothing positive to say you KNOW you screwed up. Pastra even worded his tweet politely/formally as possible, and yet Urban decides that it's right to go all-in on that.

I'll always remember the experience of watching the first episode when it came out. It showed up in my youtube recommended, I watched it blind, and the paintings were not something I was expecting (and the first paining really is the best). However, I do agree with the criticisms and I think it went WAY to far in places. While there are qualities of the series I like beyond the paintings (small bits like Jack Stryker being a candidate for one of the killers, and how the time between the deaths and the police finding the bodies gets gradually shorter implying the police are catching up to the killers), the series really dipped too much into shock value. The rape horse was totally uncalled for and I cannot fault anyone for quitting at that moment.

there's a problem with urbanspook not a lot of people seem to mention and it's that literally every character in the series seems to exist for the sole purpose of being a victim that usually dies in literally the very episode they're introduced in which leaves very little room for their death to actually be shocking or impactful to the story in any meaningful way, they're basically ragdolls that only serve the purpose of scaring the audience by dropping dead when the writer needs them to after urbanslug remembers the series is supposed to be about horror. this is what makes urbanspook not scary. there's no characters, only a vague story with no end in sight
it's at times that the series actually feels more like just the creator's art gallery rather than an attempt at genuine world building

It's funny because the group he insulted pastra for is actually quite likely to have run into some dark stuff online, especially considering the age demographic many of them have. The idea of a serial killer using paintings of their victims as a calling card is a really interesting concept that could’ve lead to some really interesting mysteries and artistry, the actual artistry and images are VERY haunting at times and if it weren’t for the stories behind them I would’ve been way more invested in the series
But the fact that there’s no respect for the dead in the series and it’s just played off for shock removes the whole point of what makes these series so interesting, I don’t want to hear about a woman being raped by a horse or an 11 year olds corpse being called a “fucktoy”, it’s uncomfortable and not in a good way.

I can read about these subjects if the story's worth it and these things LEAD to something and if the characters and such are interesting. I haven't gone into the series but I did read Berserk and it has these things going on while still having a payoff.

Honestly I’m not too bothered by the rather explicit source material but the way it’s being presented isn’t really in a way that it should be. It feels oddly immature in nature. That and the creator of the series is probably not exactly mentally sound… setting that aside and attempting to set my personal distaste of depictions of children being potentially molested and killed (as hard as it is) the work isn’t even that good.
The story is somewhat interesting. But I’m just there for the lore by now…even the fact that it is incredibly difficult to read. But I guess I have to remember that some people in the real world are child molesters. The real world isn’t all squeaky clean like a dang Disney movie. I’m sure UrbanSlug puts a lot of work into the paintings, but I think he could do a lot more with his creepy imagery than just “they all died really badly lmao”. He has absolutely potential, it’s too bad he responded so poorly how he did. Giving him benefit of the doubt, he’s probably frustrated as he clearly puts effort into the paintings, and feels like they aren’t appreciated. Hopefully he can recover and take criticism better in the future.

I do genuinely think that the image of the killer with the sunken eyes, purple skin and stitched mouth is really creepy, and that audio recording done in the last episode was genuinely chilling, but everything else is just kinda meh.

urban spook had a great set up, but it just kept getting deliberately more shocking and I just didn't like it anymore, if he returns to form of a painter who paints his murders and leaves the horse out the pasture it could get better.
The series took an incredibly steep decline after the fifth episode. It contained a pretty brutal murder or possibly two, but it stayed on track.
PIGS took a complete 180°, and while yes bRuTaL dEaThS yada yada, it just felt like pointless gore. FAMILY almost felt like damage control, until the 911 call happened.
(I still think the VA did a good job though.)

I actually really liked the ‘Creepy/Disturbing PSA’ feeling of the first two episodes.
Like you mentioned, Pigs sought a massive decline in quality, as it strayed away from the ‘PSA’ feeling of previous episodes with overtly loud and pointless sound effects and screaming, with pointless, gross gore. It lost its unique PSA feeling, and felt more like the generic analog horror we all know.
The series also lost its cool ‘investigation’ plot, as its now just devolved to detectives finding random gruesome murder sites, who coincidentally know how the victims died, but don’t find any key/important evidence to finding who the culprits are, despite how brutal and, most likely, messy the murders are. The Family episode looks like it tried to bring in the feeling of investigation/mystery back, but it’s certainly not enough.
Instead of a dark and chilling serial killer mystery, it just feels like gross, uncreative gore p0rn with not much of a connecting story. And of course, with UrbanSpook not being able to keep his mouth shut and turning so many people against him for his highly concerning views and merchandise choice, it’s most likely that this series is at its anticlimactic dead end.
Right?! Like okay the first few episodes were good. I was genuinely invested. Then the children got murdered and r@ped and I was like… ☹️… but I stayed for the magnificent drawings. The most recent one with the horse had me like… ☹️☹️☹️… When are we getting back to the serial killers and not the horse on drugs…

The first two episodes were fantastic, and showed an excellent proof on concept. The story was developing slightly, but I quite frankly think the series has gone on for way to fucking long at this point, and for little to no reason.
We are no closer to knowing who the killers are, there are countless paintings still without bodies attached, endless questions, and content that now is just gore-porn. That’s it.
It’s like the story is an after thought, or rather, an excuse to draw and depict women getting raped by horses or children getting implicitly sexually assaulted.
The series technically is an afterthought because he had stated before that he uses the series to advertise his paintings.

Imma throw my hat into the ring with what little I know, a series stagnating into a case of “the killer does wacky shenanigans and the police don’t even have as much as any leads besides the fact he looks like a tumor” kinda is a strike against it for me. Sure a series can be long and still be good, but as far as I know the closest thing we have to even identifying them is their faces, no more leads. I’ve found more enjoyment in the Mandela catalogue, even the real. While urbanspook when I watched it for the first time was interesting, it just got repetitive, you can only do wacky fantastical killings so many times before it’s like “just find the darn killer already!”

I actually laughed several times when I watched 8-bitRyan's video on the series. It just seemed so unrealistic and over the top that it took me out of it. Like a kid's idea of what being brutal and edgy is. The paintings are well done and very haunting, but that's kind of where it ends. We had stuff like this in the early 2000s, we called it "torture porn." Like Hostel or Saw what starts off as a spooky concept just becomes gross and silly as time goes on.
I loved the part where the killer casually dumped a human sized amount of industrial wax on a guy sitting exactly in the middle of his room without him noticing.

I’m kinda late but a lot of people were berating him on Twitter and continuing to try to call him out. It wasn’t just oh here is criticism and then he blew up. It was the repeated shitting on of his work.
I'll be the one to say it. There's was a lot of unrealized potential with UrbanSpook's Painter series. I had a good fistful of theories, and headcanon as to why the slippery little sewer rat did what he did. Most of it being paranormal in nature, but I feel like a lot of my theories are gonna be wrong.
I like the concept of the Painter being this slave of fate so to speak. A psychic who can see into the future, and must enact on these visions for fear of what would happen if he did not. That's a cool concept for a villain! However I don't think we're gonna be getting that. Aw well. Just another missed opportunity.
I like to think the Painters were escaped CIA test subjects whose brains got fucked up by whatever psilocybin strain the organization concocted to use for future chemical warfare purposes :3

Personally, I liked the Painter series. I liked that they described the murder, showed the painting, then did nothing else, because like 8BitRyan said, "your brain fills in the gaps" and its that part that sticks with me and is why that series is the analog horror I fear the most (so far).

That's the vibe this series gives me, it's Human Centipede but make it analog horror. We even have true crime fanatics talking about real people with real friends and family, and there are people who make videos describing cartel murder clips from the deep web so people can know what's in them without seeing it for real. This is so beyond tame compared to half of the rest of the internet, you just haven't looked hard enough yet.

Even if urbanspook isn’t considered analog horror to some, there’s things like the real, Warsaw machine, the tangi virus, the entirety of the monument mythos, children under the house, winter of 83, even Gemini, local 58, friggin Mandela catalogue and forky’s content that’s so, SO much better than content that’s edge for the sake of edge, and looking back on the content urbanspook makes, all it really has is pictures and no spooktacular demons going for it, but even that doesn’t hold much water when the creator handles criticism like a child
(To clarify, while he might’ve put tons of effort into his work, I’m not gonna say it’s marvelous “because it’s meant to be raw” or something like that, I just don’t see it as really engaging when it feels like who knows how long it’s been with the cops trying to track down this guy, and they just keep running in circles like a drunk hamster, it has potential, the dude has loads of talent, but in my honest opinion it went from interesting and full of mystery, to basically just expecting the killers to pull some looney toons contraption out of hammer space so they can turn a guy into felt or something)

This is a dilemma that I think every content creator over maybe 2K subs will start to realize. If you care about the positive comments where people are praising you, you’re also going care about the negative comments, you won’t be able to shrug it off.
What’s worse is that you eventually get acclimated to appraisal until you feel nothing towards it, and 100 positive comments means nothing, but one negative comment destroys you. That’s kinda just the path you go down if you care too much about what others think.
I think the best you can do is just force yourself to look at opinions analytically and never take them to heart, whether they’re saying you’re the goat or the worst

The creator spoke in a previous Reddit thread that his series was not meant to be realistic or even that deep with a thought out storyline (I’m paraphrasing, his actual comment was much longer), so it really was just shock value.
So I’m confused as to why he is mad about people saying that there was nothing but shock value when he admitted that there wasn’t meant to be a coherent story in the first place.
Like, if it’s only meant to be a showcase of shocking horror, with no plot, just be honest about it and own it.

I remember back when analog horror first caught on and the Mandela Catalogue came out, a lot of people started taking jabs at the genre, specifically the whole liquified face thing (pretty much starting from Gabriel) and other posts comparing him to Jerma sus. However, Alex Kister, the creator of the Mandela Catalogue, didn't have a meltdown. Instead, he made a joke video embracing the memes about it. And that's a very mature, and also very funny response. When compared to this, the creator of UrbanSpook just seems like one of those edgy teenagers that shows other kids beheadings at school because he thinks it's funny (I knew people like that in high school, they exist). That and the classic ableism and furry hate, he seems like the embodiment of edgy teenager. "Extreme Horror" just sounds like a joke.
It's a good thing I stopped watching that pile of slop series after absorbing enough information about Urbanspook. Pastra deserves a gold medal (no, platinum) for earning the gall to give Urban the Touch of Death straight after he rebutted his justification against him!

there is ONE rule to consider when trying to make something disturbing without overstepping any lines:
dont include sex crime.
pretty much everything else disturbing could be attributed to just being edgy, or just trying really hard to make something like that. once you start including sex crime, it only ever really makes people question whats wrong with YOU. i learned this from Dormitabis. its a good example on where to set your boundaries when making something horror related.

It's basically just a slide show of whatever disturbing stuff urban spook comes up with right off the bat, that's it.
@@Idkwhattonamethisaccount7 yeah i totally get what you mean, you can still include sex crime if you know what youre doing. its just such a tricky subject to work around that i find it a better rule to go by to just avoid it. you can be as offensive with so many other subjects as you like but itll just come off as "oh hes a bit edgy", but with sex crime it comes off as actually offensive, hurtful, and it can imply a lot about you as a person.
So glad someone else is making a statement about this. I had your video sent to me by a friend (bc we both like horror projects on YT) while I was watching his stuff. Even as someone who turns the lights on while watching horror content, there was literally nothing of substance I saw in that series. The "story" (if you can even call it that) was just a series of descriptions of gruesome murders (what someone in the comments of "Pigs" described as a "splatterpunk picture book" which I think is incredibly accurate) and the occasional art piece to accompany the description. The descriptions and topics in the story were also needlessly detailed just for the sake of being edgy. I'm all for shock value, mind you: I think adding things for shock value can be wonderful and thrilling if done properly. There's just a way to include those edgy and dark topics in a media and make them have sustenance while also treating said topics with respect; like someone else here said, you have to be a mature person to be able to do that. UrbanSpook as a series really misses the mark for me personally, even if the guy wasn't grown as fuck and selling merch of what is essentially a depiction of child SA and murder then crying about the "triggered snowflakes" coming for his "art" whenever he gets rightfully criticized for it. UrbanSlug seems super insecure and immature and I don't think he should have as much room as he does to be so because his stuff is not super great to me.
I hate when people try to channel the Andrew Tate whenever they face criticism saying stuff akin to "the Matrix is out to get me!" as if somehow this is mob mentality rearing its head and people are just dogpiling for no reason. The guy doesn't seem to get that the content itself wasn't as huge of a problem as he thinks it is. All in all, this whole project would have just been better as a creepypasta and not the big wet fart of a video series it is. Also, he should not be selling merch depicting child murder and SA. That's just my thoughts on it; thank you for sharing your take as well.
Honestly i like the shock value...and it's well executed shock horror. But apart from that, it brings nothing new to the table. It plays to our basest fears, not the truest heights of of terror or the deepest depths of horror. Urbanspook's entire schtick is "There're some real sickos out there. Don't trust anyone."
That's it.
The only reason i watch to the end is that it's very well executed. But the Mystery Flesh Pit and its sister projects turn heads in the post-Peele world precisely because it doesn't rely on monsters and caricatures of the insane to horrify. The real terror there is that humanity's first thought when encountering an ancient eldritch organism is how to make money from it. Because we all know thats what would really happen.

I just really hate that he takes for f*cking ever to post a new video like 3 months or more, and as much as the story, it isn't really going anywhere and seems to stray further and further from catching the killer/s that in fact we literally know little to nothing about and thats quite upsetting especially you really want a person that has hurt so many innocent people brought to justice, I know it's just fiction but that's the beauty of it.
The fact that he got jumped on Twitter by not only one of the biggest analog horror creators in the industry, but an account that’s been in character for the series since it’s creation is wild to me.

When you post stuff online, it’s like super normal to be criticized. A 6 y/o can get criticized for posting a self-portrait, not to mention if your works are edgy and gory. People who take fictional works too seriously will come after you, people who like horror but don’t like gory horror will come after you, hell, some people will come after you just because they want to.
I was a big fan of the first entry, but I just- I can’t look at them the same for this stupid act. Like, you are practically public figure, you are destined to be criticized, and ngl, some people are pretty polite about expressing their dislike towards their works. Acting like this really just made themselves look SO BAD.

There is the misunderstanding. It is not about the work, the work put into it means nothing if the end product lacks in the most important department.
Being just shock value is not because the art is bad, or the idea is bad either, there is production value.
But it devolved into nothing but shock because it lacks story or progression. I think he doesn´t fully get what people criticize him for.

I've always disliked "the painter" because of how over the top and distasteful it is (and ntm that the writing and visuals suck too) but now i have a actual reason to hate it and the creator

Excuse me..? I don't know Pastra personally, but they're one of my favorite horror TH-camrs because he'll try to find something positive in anything! The only time he really dug into something on his channel was with Hello Neighbor, where he just genuinely couldn't find anything good to say about the final product. If Pastra can find the most miniscule thing they liked, they'll say it.
So basically, if you leave Pastra with nothing positive to say you KNOW you screwed up.
Pastra even worded his tweet politely/formally as possible, and yet Urban decides that it's right to go all-in on that.
But… was the guy wrong? It really did look like shock for shock. Horror can use sensitive topics as part of the horror, but I don’t think a horror movie is going to nickname a character “fucktoy Cory” or have a horse Mr-Hands a woman to death lmao

throughout this whole thing, i think what stuck out with me the most was this:

this is why analog stories like the mandela catalogue are so good, yes the horror stuff is there but its secondary because the primary stuff that you get interested is the story and the characters,
while urbanspook is just shock value and thats it
I'll always remember the experience of watching the first episode when it came out. It showed up in my youtube recommended, I watched it blind, and the paintings were not something I was expecting (and the first paining really is the best).
However, I do agree with the criticisms and I think it went WAY to far in places. While there are qualities of the series I like beyond the paintings (small bits like Jack Stryker being a candidate for one of the killers, and how the time between the deaths and the police finding the bodies gets gradually shorter implying the police are catching up to the killers), the series really dipped too much into shock value. The rape horse was totally uncalled for and I cannot fault anyone for quitting at that moment.
