Was listening to this when my father past away, very Underrated this song help me a lot , still ball when I hear it, I know he is not suffering anymore I just wish I could see him one more time.
Xaivier M. Sinclaire Don’t worry man, you will find him! Believe me! Don’t you remember of the DT’s song? “Remember that death is not the end but only a transition.”
How do you know he is not suffering from regret and loss in the afterlife? Do you feel he has found peace? Did he visit you and tell you? Remember that we are immortal, only the body/personality is mortal.
A married man, almost 35 and I can still find something that makes me shed some tears. I hope these guys last at least as long as the Rolling Stones ;-)
God Bless Dream Theater!! Thank God there are musicians that can play music with such passion and integrity! As a musician myself I just can't be but in awe of the skills and soundness of the different tones and vibes they can produce! Absolutely A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!
Take away my pain Let the cold inside It's time to let it rain There's nothing left to hide Take away my pain I'm not frightened anymore I'm learning to survive Without you in my life Til you come knocking at my door
This is such an excellent performance but I can't help but LOL at the guy singing in the background.... hahaha he completely spoils yet makes the video!
It's crazy to think that I was center-stage about 5 rows back at this very show and that it's been almost *13 years* since then, as I can remember every moment in pretty great detail. This is a great rendition of the song, merging the demo version (which the band prefers and plays on recent tours, but IMO is fairly "80s Power Ballad") with the studio version that has a great Peter Gabriel-type vibe and was something they'd never tried before...
Amazing performance by James, but once in a live time cd has the greatest version of this song, added a brilliant saxophone too!Dream Theater lyrics and Rush lyrics beats any lyrics of any band forever!
Yeah! I heard him! He's just rockin' out! I dunno, that strikes me as one of the coolest things that can happen when you make music... you inspire others to do the same.
Que gran banda .... siempre me recuerda quien soy.... aunque ahora este separado, e intentando encontrar el maldito camino de vuelta a mi vida... Esta banda siempre me hace recordar lo que soy...
No, it is also on the live album 'Once in a livetime', even with Jay Beckenstein playing the sax (just like he did on Die Another Day from the album Images and Words).
@Iszil Interesting how fandom is, as FII has always been close to the top of DT releases to my ears. It very much has a good percentage of their "prog" side in NM, HK, LITS, JLMB & TOT but also is their most "experimental" CDs with quote-"Pop Songs"-unquote in YNM, HY & AL which all all gorgeous songs. IMO it takes just as much musical skill to write a quality 3 1/2 minute "Pop Song" - see Porcupine Tree, Kevin Gilbert, or Spock's Beard - than it does to make a 10+ minute "Epic Song".
I will play this at my funeral. Making a list. Stage 4 cancer-I love this version it’s so raw and full of emotion
the backing vocals from the people, is awesome.
I think its just one dude who can sing really well
ROBERTO AMBROSIO that was petrucci's father's voice
We all do this in Austria
"You can take away my heroes, but can you take away my pain?"
Truer words were never spoken.
Was listening to this when my father past away, very Underrated this song help me a lot , still ball when I hear it, I know he is not suffering anymore I just wish I could see him one more time.
god bless

You will one day, I promise :)
How do you know he is not suffering from regret and loss in the afterlife? Do you feel he has found peace? Did he visit you and tell you? Remember that we are immortal, only the body/personality is mortal.
Someone in the audience ROCKS at singing.
That guy singing in the background is awesome! :D
Hahaha I was going to say the exact same thing dude
I was just going to comment on that! That is some serious pipes on those vocals!
Jajajja who is it?
that would be seriously annoying as hell to stand next to during the concert though
James is my all time favorite singer. He is just so damn amazing how he always captures the feelings to the words he sings. Its magic.
JP wrote this to his dad. RIP to his dad
the guy in the crowd singing in the background f-ing rules!!!!
Touching version of one of the greatest DT songs...
for me DT is one of the great Rock ballad makers of all time..every ballad they make just captures me..
ı listened the masterpiece when my grandmother died, now i am listening after what i did to my father...
for all his bashers, Labrie absolutely nails this performance. He sounds great here
A married man, almost 35 and I can still find something that makes me shed some tears. I hope these guys last at least as long as the Rolling Stones ;-)
5 years and counting. i miss you dad. i love you.
Amazing voice ,god bless James LaBrie
I can never make it through this song without completely losing it. Way too real.
Unbelievable song. Exquisitely emotional.
Very touching song, my grandmother passed away recently, and this song means much more now.
God Bless Dream Theater!! Thank God there are musicians that can play music with such passion and integrity! As a musician myself I just can't be but in awe of the skills and soundness of the different tones and vibes they can produce! Absolutely A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!
Who is the guy singing along?
The vibrato from his voice is awesome
I don't think anyone would have imagined he had gone through a vocal rupture because he nails this song. LaBrie is just so great.
This song is simply amazing, I never get tired of D.-T. Their music has helped me through so much. So inspiring
Take away my pain
Let the cold inside
It's time to let it rain
There's nothing left to hide
Take away my pain
I'm not frightened anymore
I'm learning to survive
Without you in my life
Til you come knocking at my door
I love how John went back to this look with his hair except now he is also an absolute unit. Truly inspiring
Whenever i hear this song, my dad will come in my mind. Miss my hero a lot…
Que música mais linda!!! Não conhecia!!! Obrigada por partilhar... Amábille:-)
This is such an excellent performance but I can't help but LOL at the guy singing in the background.... hahaha he completely spoils yet makes the video!

The solo on this one is closer to the album version than to the demo version. It blended very well, I love it.

To all of my fallen heroes that I never got to see live... Chester... Chris... Kurt... Paul... and so many more... life is cruel... too cruel...
Man that solo is simple and short but it's just amazing
I hope that they will play this song again someday!!! Also that ibanez is so freaking awesome!!!
Perfect performance!
Yes, this album is very underrated, especially as compared to Scenes from a Memory, not to mention the recent ones which are far less inspired.
Music in the Best For Background Singing...very very awesome.
Now that you mention it, I remember noticing that. Very cool...
i love this song!!!!
such a beautiful song, remainds me so much of my granpa :,(
the way portnoy enters with his unique rolls is simply amazings. I love the fractions that he plays.... really innovative..

The chorus in the beginning made me cry due to LaBrie's vocals.....Awesome song.....
No, it is also on the live album 'Once in a livetime', even with Jay Beckenstein playing the sax (just like he did on Die Another Day from the album Images and Words).
wow i remember this show....I was there!!!
Now I has a sad :(
Greatest band ever! Dream Theater FTW!
Man you know that must be tough for JP to play this song live, being about his dad and stuff. It's pretty powerful song.
...you can feel the pain in his voice...it takes one hell of a lot of talent to pull it off as well as Petrucci has in this song...
The guitar solo is my fav Petrucci moment ever. Short, perfect. Sounds like Marillion or Journey. I miss that in DT.
BEAUTIFUL SONG. DT 4 EVER
