Fish is a poet. I will never forget in 85 in long island new york. They opened for rush and no one knew who the hell they were in america. They played the whole misplaced childhood album like you were listening to the cd, When they ended I was a fan for life. they woke up lots of people that night.
For me, Steve's Rothery guitar solos are so trippy, he plays with such much feel and emotion. He selects each note of the solo to make it unforgettable.
I think Steve is right up there with Dave Gilmour. They both could bring me to tears as a teenager, and still in my early 50's can manage to do the same. Steve is a seriously underrated guitarist. He's the best! The way he and Mark Kelly play off each other, intertwining their harmonies is not of this world.
@@Coasterdude02149 I think you bring up a great point! Steve is one of the very best and the most emotionally moving guitarists i can think of, even more than Gilmour for me though he is also great and inspired Rothary for sure, but without the interplay with Kelly, Trewavas and Mosely it would probably not reach those heights.
I'm only 18 and I know Marillion thanks to my dad! If it wasn't for him maybe I would never have heard of them! So THANK YOU, DAD!! This is just more than music!
Its such a shame that Marillion did not enjoy a better reputation as one of the greats of prog rock. They were too easily written off as a band loved by spotty schoolboys with denim jackets and long hair. I was one of those spotty youths who loved the band. I'm 42 now and this vid brings it all back - and it still stands up as great music, great lyrics and great musicianship. All hail Marillion. (and all hail Fish - he da man!)
my God... I can't even describe my feelings when I listen to it... I started my adventure with Marillion about one week ago and I'm already sure it will be long and beautiful journey :) God bless these golden years of Music.
crazy how things stay in your mind-I remember struggling to sleep on the eve of my driving test in '88-these boys got me chilled-always on my walkman back in the day-passed the test as well-mind you,I was worried because the examiner was the same bastard in a tweed jacket who failed me first time round !
3:22 to 4:00 gives me goosebumps... the way Fish sets up Rothery for the solo and walks away from the mic, and then how Rothery literally makes the guitar sound like its screaming/crying when it comes in
One of the best original Marillion songs of all time, in my humble opinion. I want this played at my funeral. And unless I misunderstand the lyrics, they are even more relevant now than when he wrote them. Although his early lyrics could always be interpreted in many ways, which was one of the things I liked about them. 'Every song fits your mood' :P
Amazing........Saw this performrd in Vancouver, Canada on the "Misplaced Childhood" tour in March 1986 at The Commodoe Ballroom. One of the best concerts I have ever seen ( and I have seen a lot)!! At the end of the concert Fish said " We have one more song to play for you tonight"................and it was "Misplaced Childhood" in it's entirety. Absolutely amazing!!!
Hay 2 tipos de rokeros ,los que detestan a marilion y los que lo amamos. Por su puesto cuando compre este disco (en acetato)escuchaba cada canción 20veces .
Stand straight, look me in the eye and say goodbye, say goodbye Stand straight, we've drifted past the point of reasons why Yesterday starts tomorrow, tomorrow starts today......
Thanks so much for posting this song. I saw it performed in Vancouver , Canada in March 1986 at the Commodore Ballroom and loved it. This brings back great memories.Fish introduced the song in the same way.
Got to see these dudes a few times in the late 80's opening up for Todd Rundgrens Utopia....even Todd pointed out how fucking awesome they were at the gigs. Fish forever
Jesus, Fish messes up big time here. At 4.00. he comes in about four bars too early with his "are we trigger happy" line, cutting off the last part of Steve Rothery's solo. There are a few seconds of confusion as Steve wonders whether to continue the solo and rest of the band lock in with Fish. Wonderful live version, nonetheless, from my favourite all-time band.
I'm sorry, you were right. Comparing this live version to the record he really messed up big time, breaking off the Steve solo... but... what a great band it was having Fish' mistakes looks like it was the Original!!!Wow
so true. FISH messed up big time and came in early but Rothery and the band reacted and improvised perfectly. deff one of my favorite bands of all time
one of my all time favprites of theirs! Thnaks so much for postinghtis! If anyone has any videos to share via e-mail let me know I'm trying to find some that I can watch in full!
Fish, I heard you for the first time in a complete darkness surrounding me, in a ricochet of life throwing its pieces on my inflamed mind and dying soul Thanks for sharing Natz
This is great! Probably fish was in his best shape then. i've seen him november '85 in germany - again great shape. but then 86/87 you could already feel he was over the top...
Quando suono e parole si amalgamano così armoniosamente diventano Emozione e Poesia.. Bravi!!!!!!!!!!!
The BEST song on the album executed PERFECTLY, live!
A Masterpiece of all times!💗💗💗
Marillion saved the 80s diet of celebrity singers and bilge. Remember then because of this band.
That is what you call performance from Fish. And I've always loved that key turn at the end chorus.
Still sound after all this time
❤
Reminds me of my friend Craig who got murdered back in the mid nineties,God bless him will never forget you cos u stood up for me,Rip.
it is a shame that the real masterpieces of Marillion don´t know by anyone !
fugazi is one of the best albums in history of music
werdohler87 Yes this is sad...
Agree, and this... Jigsaw is the super masterpiece!! I really don't know a better song... still
I'm polish and i'm still listening here in Poland

My first Marillion album(bought it in 1984) and one of my preferred one
One of the greatest Marillion songs ever!
Fish rocks! Trewavas in his best (I love the way this guy plays bass) and Rother's solo.... outstanding!
Fish is a poet.

Same here except at Radio City.
Rush and Marillion supporting that must have been quite a night! 😎
They were booed off and abused when supporting Rush apparently in America in the 80's bizarrely when Geddy Lee had picked them for 2 different tours
Just absolutely incredible.
Absolute masterpiece. Nothing beats the Fugazi album
Fish!! Voz e talento único ! Marillion...uma Viagem de som!amoo muitoo!!🙌❤💕😍🎶🎙🎸👌🏻👏
For me, Steve's Rothery guitar solos are so trippy, he plays with such much feel and emotion. He selects each note of the solo to make it unforgettable.
true
His guitarsolo's are the best!!

I agree! They are two of my three favs with Ritchie Blackmore (Wasted Sunsets is Platinum).

I love his voice so much! It’s so unique
Do agree, nobody can compete with Fish... Fish 4 ever❤️❤️❤️
lyrically so beautifull and emotionally so strong, especially : refugees of romance plead asylum from the real''
Demoledor tema ..armoria .melodia y un rirmo suave como una nube... gracias Marillion por todo el arte de rock sinfónico de todos los tiempos!❤
Yesterday starts tomorrow, tomorrow starts today.......Great Song
I'm only 18 and I know Marillion thanks to my dad! If it wasn't for him maybe I would never have heard of them! So THANK YOU, DAD!! This is just more than music!
Thank god for Spotify, serving as a library to songs and eras of old.
Well, you’re 30 now! Hope it’s going ok for you. X
@@hanreality.7266 It’s going well enough, all things considered! Thanks! :) Btw, still love Marillion, still listen to them with my dad.
Birko Onfaya glad to hear it! 😄
Really cool, I'm 15 years old and my mum showed me Marillion. I'm not interested in today's music, so I'm listening to these masterpieces :)
i was there in 84'
feel it was yesterday
really envy you.

From Poland. Kur.. Przepiękne wspomnienia.....Pozdrawiam 1974
How fantastic you were Fish.....longing for that time....
Only Fish can sing like this... The end of the song is just mesmerizing😍😍😍😍😍😍
That' so great!!!
Fish is sooo coll and Marrilion are the best band of the World.....!!!
Part of the soundtrack of My teenage years.. Unforgettable Fish.. My mind makes a "ricochet" to your spirit
One of the best rock groups, but only during the FISH period. A pity, he left the group so early !
I love this band when Fish was in it . Steves guitar was and still is phenomenal !
One of the finest songwriters of all time. Morrissey is another.
I'm a massive fan of the first four albums, really special to me, but don't dismiss the more recent stuff, Marillion are still making great music.
The ending when Fish says ricochet is brilliant!
Its such a shame that Marillion did not enjoy a better reputation as one of the greats of prog rock. They were loved and appreciated here in Poland
El gran Fish, con la voz fascinante de aquella época y su gran banda!!
They gave a great performance in Poland, Poznañ 1987
This song is amazing I´ll never get tired of listening this wonderful melody
We are renaissance children becalmed beneath the bridge of sighs . . . fish makes pictures with words - beautiful x
Totally brilliant...lyrics, music, theatrics...the entire package...and he still keeps it alive!!!
Top Song. Gänsehaut
my God... I can't even describe my feelings when I listen to it... I started my adventure with Marillion about one week ago and I'm already sure it will be long and beautiful journey :) God bless these golden years of Music.
7sofree Marillion is legendary
This song is one of the best ever.Marillion without Fish is a no name band. Thanks Fish!! LG Nicole
one of the best 80's band, my favorite, beautiful guitar piece
the best marillion track i had the honour to see them live in liverpool twice in the 80s the first gigs i ever went to very fond menories
crazy how things stay in your mind-I remember struggling to sleep on the eve of my driving test in '88-these boys got me chilled-always on my walkman back in the day-passed the test as well-mind you,I was worried because the examiner was the same bastard in a tweed jacket who failed me first time round !
Steve Rothery is the most underrated guitarist ever..
My favourite guitarist especially influential when he was playing alongside fish
"Puzzled Visions haunt the ripples of a trevi moon"...what amazing lyrics! Thanks Fish!
The solo is out of this world , I'm speechless .
Stunning
Fish with Marillion is beatiful!!!Forever.
3:22 to 4:00 gives me goosebumps... the way Fish sets up Rothery for the solo and walks away from the mic, and then how Rothery literally makes the guitar sound like its screaming/crying when it comes in
Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!
One of my favorite song of Fish era...
Fish is so awesome! He has a message.. and that's rare.

A truly great band at the height of their powers. What more could you ever want? Speaking for myself, nothing more than this.
i work in flooring and my partner played this band nonstop, he passed on, now im gettin it

Muito lindo!!!
Maravilhoso e com muitas recordações.
This song is remarkable. Fish brings everything as a vocalist. Rothery's break-in lead is phenomenal. Sir. Kelly has the perfect keys...
tremendous. i loved the first 2 marillion albums.
It's a song about breaking up but always sounds like a love song to me, not sure why. Kelly's keyboard is haunting. x
Some of the best music on the plant, in its history....love it forever!
Tudo o que se fez nos anos 80 ficou a milhas dos álbuns dos Marillion e principalmente do "Fugazi"
Peter played on beautiful Aria bass and Steve on beautiful Yamaha SG
Emotional stuff. Great job Marillion.
This is made in the year when I was born. Great song! I love it!!!
My God, how I wish I was there 😭
One of their best! But Steve H.is doing as well!;-)
Awesome song. Awesome lyrics!

Teksty Fish'a są genialne.

It might be 20 years, but Fish is still the man for Marillion.
The best guitar solo ever and there is only a handful of versions on youtube. You need to dig through the whole crap to get into what's really good.
Stand straight, look me in the eye and say goodbye, say goodbye
Stand straight, we've drifted past the point of reasons why
Yesterday starts tomorrow, tomorrow starts today......
I want more from this show!!!

Oh this song is so beautiful...Fish is such an emotional frontman! I would really like to see the rest of the gig!
Rothery , aka the master of emotional guitar solos.

Thanks for sharing, miss these guys!
Breathtaking

***** Well spotted. They had to put the brakes on pretty quick ha ha. Superb version tho!!
