I have a lot of fond memories performing and writing with DJ Z-Trip and DJ Radar back in the 90's! We did some amazing all LIVE improvised, freestyle sessions at Higher Ground in Tempe, and various raves, mostly at the Ice House in Downtown Phoenix. My crew (Suite No. 3, The Martyrs) laid down the live instrument grooves, and DJ Z-Trip, DJ Radar and a host of MC's including MR. Puma MC would battle it out live. Great times!

I don't think he mentioned this, but during the heyday on 6th and Mill, I'd say more than half of us were still in high school. In 92 through 94 most of us didn't have cars. I got to all of the TMC shows at the Roxy by getting rides from my dad, but I always lied and told him that I had a ride home. It was always an adventure getting from deep into Phoenix all the way back into Tempe at 2 or 3 in the morning. My longtime boyfriend, Puma, was a few years older, so he had already gone to prom. So for my prom I dressed up in a gown and updo, so that I could leave the house. Then I changed in the bathroom of a fancy restaurant and met up with the whole gang in Phoenix, where Ztrip was spinning. He didn't mention Hip Hop kitchen, which was pretty legendary. The LA chapter of Rocksteady Crew came out and did their thing. So many good memories from back then. Once when Ztrip came over, he gave me props for playing a "Mother's of Invention" record, which blew me away, because it was on a very obscure track.
Awesome episode. Really enjoyed all the music talk. Awesome that he was there when Linkin Park blew up. Linkin Park is still my favorite band of all time. RIP Chester.
First place I saw/ heard of Z-Trip. He blew my fucking mind! He was mixing the craziest shit. I immediately bought his mix tape, but it was stolen eventually. Wish his stuff was easier to find.
my first beats were all pause mix tapes! the thing people never mention in the explaination (mainly bc it gets eclipsed by how hard and time consuming it was) is that every time you added another 'sample' the tape hiss was doubled. by the time u got to 3 or 4 layers it was mostly tape hiss.
i had the first EPS that was mono and had a lower res sampler. i also had the eps 16 plus, but without the output expander, everybody who had MPC drums bumped harder.
