I usually don't have a word or phrase for the year but I am listening to Rosary in a Year podcast & Fr. Mark-Mary says, "Poco a Poco" meaning little by little. I love that.
I'm returning to your wonderful podcast after a couple + years of being away and your laughter and joy of knitting and gnome cuteness clears all the world craziness away! What a God-send you are ❤ my word for the year, sort of, is "consistency", being consistent rather than following too many impulses...long story 😉
My gnomes also got out of control! I made four for gifting, and made three for myself, including two that I made much smaller, so they can be tucked around my hours. They made me smile. They are perfect for leftover sock yarn.
Denise, I find you and your space here on YT to be my oasis of calm and serenity and I value what you have to say and share and look forward to “visiting” with you when you are able. You help to smooth out the emotional bumps I feel with the current events. I am also glad that you post what you want and when you want and take the time you need for yourself and your family. Keep doing you!❤
Yes! Thank you! You don’t need to explain your makes to anyone. I usually break the main color on my socks when making the contrasting heel. I can’t wait to try your method of keeping it attached and picking it up on the other end.
Knitting helped me keep my sanity. When my husband died 5 years ago and my whole world turned upside down, knitting was my salvation and still is. And when looking at the world and what is going on , knitting gives me warmth and happiness. The global knitting community gives me the feeling that there is still hope for humanity.
My first year picking a word, and it's conquer! Conquering fears and my own "in my head' worries! Pushing myself to be more by conquering the mental fears. Absolutely love the heel!!! Casting on first cuff down in a while, knowing that heel will fit! Yahoo!! Thankful found you and this space!❤🧶
Denise, Im glad you decided to record and publish this episode. Your channel and the others that I watch bring me the peace needed with all the things going around us and I want to thank you very much for sharing yourself with us. "never not learning" yep we always learn something new.
So glad you decided to do this video. Although the world is going crazy right now, we also need an outlet that brings a sense of comfort. I always enjoy your videos. Hopefully these videos are too stressful for you but a release. WE have to keep praying for our world.
I've been knitting backwards on my heels instead of purling for a few years. Total game changer. I don't row out anymore, it feels faster, and sometimes I'll even knit backwards on bigger stockinette projects because the gauge is more consistent than my purl gauge. It did take a little while to get used to, but I'll never purl a short row heel again
So delightful to hear you talk about the goings on, and hear you echo my thoughts almost perfectly. I agree with you about social media. I already use the block option, and will continue to use it. I also can use 'Unfollow' and I can also trim my current follows. Knitting is always happening here. I am finishing up some gift wips. I have been 'hired' to knit 7 pairs of socks, and I am getting ready to dive in.
Always so happy to see you on TH-cam. Love the socks so much. glad you will be here more often. I use instagram for 'looking', not familiar what else I can do and learn there. And, I don't know what a community board is. guess I have some learning to do, LOL. Love the gnomes!! Yes, I certainly do recognize that song, LOL. can't wait until next time, dear knitter!!!!!!🥰
So glad for the upcoming tutorial. I have done the heel but I am not very good at it. Practice is what we need to really 'get' it. Bought your sock pattern also and just getting started.
Love this ep Denise. I have now been introduced to the world of gnome knitting... I can already see the look on my husband's face when the first one is done...and when he realises there will be more! Ps. I also saw that reel by Lily Kate Makes on knitting the short row heel without turning your work 🤯
Acceptance and kindness. Sock knitting is my forte. Peace each day and every day. Passion for just doing. Having fun and knitting the projects of your choice. Generosity within your friends and family. Undivided love for mankind. Enjoying a Miss Denice podcast. 😊
I have only been knitting socks for about 6 months but I found your tutorial on the shadow wrap heel and I love it it’s my go to heel, it just brings me joy that I have no holes and so easy to follow.
I’ll have to go back and listen to the last episode. I am so behind on episodes. But I always respect how you stand your ground and make your channel yours. I loved the grease song, brought back memories. Lol Everything was so exciting in this episode! I can’t wait to hear more!💛
That was wonderful thank you I have read most of your book recommendations and love them so thank you❤ On the Shadow Wrap Short Row Heel you once spoke about doing a small gusset with it for added room across the heel instep area I would love to know more about that 🥰thank you and looking forward to a wonderful 2925 of knitting
Briar Club is on my Libby hold list and should have this weekend. Love all the Kate Quinn books - there isn’t a bad one in her list at all! Love all the gnomes too! Lastly all your freckled whimsy show and tell, sent me over to her site to get a sock set 😂
So nice to see you and your lovely smile and attitude. We all need safe spaces and community. Your channel is that. My word is Contemplation, for my mental and physical health.
Oh my goodness, Denise, my gnomes too are multiplying! Don't you just love them? Love your book recommendations, I have just downloaded 2 x Kate Quinns and The Last Bookshop in London, here in the UK (I live in Wales) our libraries have the Borrow Box App for audio which is pretty good although there are sometimes long waits for certain titles. Looking forward to your Ask Me Anything vlog, going to try the shadow wrap heel. My 2 words for 2025 are Be Kind. 🥰
Make, make, make - my mantra for this year, Girl Friend. I think because we have/are constantly supporting, caring for other people, that we've forgotten to take the small joys for ourselves. I've been in a knitting funk (although I've been focused on 4-shaft floor weaving), I'm getting back into it slowly again. Thank you for these videos; I know they're a lot of work to do, to pull together and post. I wish you well in 2025.
I just heard Summer Lee say in a Q & A session on her podcast that she doesn’t wear many of the socks she makes either. Interesting. She considers them as pieces of art she’s made, much the save as an oil on canvas. And it’s what makes her happy, her passion. I knit mostly socks and I understand that feeling. Although I do wear my handmade socks everyday, there are some that are just too precious to me to risk wearing out. I feel the same way about my other knitting passion, Gnomes! I’m so excited you are making Gnomes this year too!
Your face when describing the reverse knitting!🤣I have tried it for flat knitting and really like it. Patty Lyons has a great YT tutorial. For a cardigan or bottom-up up sweater where some sections are knitted flat, reverse knitting gives a much smoother edge - no purl bumps! It's much easier to pick up stitches or seam. My tension is more even, as my purl rows tend to row out. I tried it on the heels of my last pair of socks, and was very happy with the result. I reverse knit until it's time for a twin or triple stitch, and then I turn to work the stitch. I also have a question: how do you keep your socks from stretching out? I'm using 75/25 sock yarn, knitting the correct size for my foot and gauge for the pattern, and blocking to measurements. But after wearing them once or twice, they're floppy. I've thought about tossing them in the washer and dryer but worried I'll ruin them!
Yes a much needed oasis. I did pick a word again - strength. As far as crafting though it’s al about what I want to do and what makes me happy!! My mouth usually goes faster than my brain!! Lol
This space always feels like a respite and I appreciate you so much for nurturing that. My focus for the year is creativity. And yes you totally influenced me to join the gnome-a-long and I am loving it. I can't wait to see all your joyful creations throughout the year ❤ Also if you want to track your reading online I would recommend checking out storygraph I switched from Goodreads years ago and have never looked back.
Thanks for taking the time to post. Your enthusiasm for gnomes is adorable.😊 and yes, i understood the Grease reference. ONJ and JT! I'm keeping with my decluttered life goal. Only keeping what gives me joy helps with getting thru the rough patches ... and we all get them. Recently found 2 vases that were my grandmother's. I reached out to a cousin and asked if she or other members of her family would like them. She remembers them and cannot wait to have lunch together to chat about the grandma I never met. Should be fun as she's an animated story teller. Thanks for the book recommendations. I keep a list of next reads on my public library account. Still doing the physical copies. Recently read A Keeper by Graham Norton. ❤❤❤ reminds me of Maeve Binchy's style of story telling. Cheers from Canada.
Storygraph is a good alternative to Goodreads! It's cool because it gives you charts and graphs of your reading (genres, length, pace, etc) and is less social focused
I thank you for posting. Yes, we need an oasis. We need our virtual knitting friends. Our weather has prevented getting out. I am trying to avoid certain 'news' so much going on. I do jot have my head in the sand, but, for my mental health....I didn't do any sort of goals for this year. I think I am in the Sam place as you. Just need to protect my happiness
Knitting gives me the strength try to deal with what is happening in the world, and I believe this is true of many. So this does not feel trivial to me.
I always do the “pick up the main color where you left off” thing on the soxploration sock ever since the 2nd one I knit. I also alternate top down and toe up depending on my mood. It is my happy place as well. I’m usually watching you on my tv so hardly ever comment but I always look forward to watching your updates.
ABUNDANCE is a word that I am ruminating on at the moment. Instead of focusing on the things I do not have, I am trying to appreciate and use the things I do have.
I’m so happy you recorded today! I’ve missed your joy filled vlogs, or whatever these things are called! I’m with you it has been a rough beginning to this new year. We just need to stay strong and positive and keep on knitting! ❤ one of these days I’m going to make a pair of socks while watching your sock tutorial! But I need to finish my jelly roll blanket first!!😂 Your beautiful socks always inspire me! But I can only focus on one project at a time because that thing called “work” messes up my whole day of knitting 😂 It totally just gets in the way, and only allows me so much time to knit! 😂
Thanks for recording and sharing! Sarah’s gnomes are so delightful!! I love all of their backstories!! And also thank you for the book recs I am an avid listener, and agree that narration can really make or break a book. Have you read A Place to Hang the Moon? It’s a book that centers on orphans during WWII. Also, I’m not sure if you’re up for hosting “I love books and sock knitting again”, but if you have the space, I loved to see what all people were knitting and reading. 💜 thanks for creating a wonderful community!!!
I am so happy you will be explaining how to fix a mistake in the shadow wrap heel. It has happened to me a few times and need some help with that. Love your gnomes. I made the same one and I made Gnolan. His beard curls as does his hat. So cute!
I just finished listening to The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune. Available on Libby. I think you would really enjoy the theme of inclusivity and tolerance and one of the main characters is a female Gnome that has a beard and loves to garden. Your gnomes are adorable!
We had almost 3 weeks of Christmas break thanks to snow. I have bored of the norm with knitting vlogs. That's why i enjoy your content. Knitting gives me calm and is the mental version of engaging my core. Hard times need busy hands knitting.
I've not done a word before but this year I've chosen "understanding.". I want to be more understanding of people, try to put myself in their shoes and understand their actions and feelings better.
I too am holding on to my joy, and refuse to be sucked in by the fear mongers. I believe that by thinking and living positive I attract positivity and I love that.
Merci pour cet épisode et une très belle année à toi et tes proches d’un tricoteur podcasteur de France 🇫🇷 C’est toujours un plaisir de regarder de tes podcasts 👍🙏✨
👋🏻. Just thought I would mention that I have no idea what the community noticeboard is on TH-cam. I can look into it but I just thought I’d mention as there may be others 😊
By „never not learning“ you share your knowledge with us so we‘re never not learning too. That‘s the mark of a great teacher. Thank you Denise. I have a question about the shadow wrap heel. Is it suitable without modification for those of us with high insteps?
I'm sure I will be commenting again with SWH questions, but this comment is just because I felt compelled to tell you how much I enjoy and appreciate you and your vlogs. I can't explain it other than to say you bring me joy. I can be having a ______ (blah, hectic, frustrating etc.) day, and your notification pops up and it just makes me smile. I instantly have something to look forward to relaxing with when the opportunity presents itself. Watching you feels to me as if I have spent time with a friend who "gets" me, and I always finish an episode feeling energized and inspired, so Thank you. ❤
Is it possible to add extra room in a shadow wrap heel to accommodate a high instep? If so, how do you go about doing it? Could you also give us some insight into the structural integrity(wear&tear) of a shadow wrap heel vs a heel flap and gusset? Thanks! I love your teaching style and these videos! 😊
40:26 hii!😂 i saw your *afterthought shadow wrap short row heel* on ig and i really would *appreciate* it if you could include a little tutorial of that *specific* one with the no gaps/leave 2 on either side thing in the video somehow. *not* to put presure on you. and if you’re feeling *fancy* knit backwards instead of flipping the sock over too.😂and then i guess may as well do a dance as you leap through hoops as well! LOL!😂Hahahaha. and maybe, again not to presure you, if you could make the *everything you need to know about the shadow wrap short row heel* video just a *single* video, i feel like it would be *convenient* for people to watch. the reason why i say that is because people *tend* to skipp videos with part 1’s and 2’s and such.😂 but ofcourse! do what is easiest for you! just a suggestion!😃and i think the *watch time* on that video would be sooo highh!😂also thankyou *soooo* much!🎉you are extremely *jolly* and pleasant and make this app a better place!
I have really wide feet and my daughter has high arches. Short row heels that I have tried in the past have been hard for us to get on. Is there a way to modify your shadow wrap heel to make it deeper for our feet, so we can get the on?
I wish that I could have a clone of you to be my personal best friend…oh that’s way too creepy! Never mind! Thank you for all of the sock and gnome in’s-o💗💗
Hi:) love your videos! Just wanted to recommend a book to you that I started listening to, and maybe I shouldn’t be recommending it because I’m only about halfway through it but I just feel like you would love it! It’s called Tainted Cup by Robert Jackson Bennett and the narrator is doing a fantastic job and it’s a murder mystery set in a kind of a fantasy world it’s very very interesting and exciting!
Have you heard of Story Graph instead of Good Reads? It’s owned by black women and not connected to Amazon like Good Reads is. Thanks for the recommendations, both knitting and reading.
My word for the new year is “Hope”

Great podcast thank you 😊
Thank you for watching. I’m glad you enjoyed it!
Of course we recognize the song! The gnomes are so adorable! And your socks, wonderful!
Thank you thank you. My word/intention for the year is "nourish."
Yes! Thank you! You don’t need to explain your makes to anyone. I usually break the main color on my socks when making the contrasting heel. I can’t wait to try your method of keeping it attached and picking it up on the other end.
Word for the year is “And”, I feel that is opened ended, leaving room for growth, acceptance and resilience. I

My first year picking a word, and it's conquer!

"never not learning" - i love that! i always say, "every sock, a lesson learned!" 😆
I love your saying and agree wholeheartedly!!!
First time viewer here- what a delightful episode! Love your enthusiasm! I, too am a gnome knitter and they are certainly fun and addicting. Enjoy😊
Denise, you are such a ray of sunshine. Keep being unapologetically you.
Aww, thank you SO MUCH!!!
Keep being you because that is what we come back for! Love the beautiful socks!
It’s electrifying! You did Olivia proud. Love the gnome.
I can’t wait for your upcoming shadow wrap heel video!!!
I can't wait to record and share it!!!

Your gnomes are so sweet,,,,
My word for the year Discipline. Yes I recognized the song and loved your version 😂😂
Jenn from Stash down Diaries is doing gnomes this year too. Thank you for this podcast. You are a joy to spend time with.
LOL.I would FRAME some of those socks you have, Denise!
Always so happy to see you on TH-cam. Love the socks so much. glad you will be here more often. I use instagram for 'looking', not familiar what else I can do and learn there. Happy new year Denise I’m so pleased you did record this as I’ve missed you as your enthusiasm and inspiration is magical and I so appreciate you ❤
Happy new year to you! Thank you so much for watching and for your very sweet comment!!!

Always enjoy your podcasts. Very welcoming and comforting space while I knit!
I'm happy you find it welcoming and comforting! Knit on!!!
Just found your channel in the last week and a 1/2 getting ready to start the sock class you did a few years ago so excited!!!
Definitely need a respite. Your sweet face is a blessing. Thank you ❤

45,000!!! That’s AMAZING. Congratulations!
My order of the year: grateful. I have so much to be thankful for, and I never want to take anything for granted 😊

Those Freckled Whimsey socks are perfection! I love your book recommendations. I use Hoopla & need to investigate Libby. Another great episode!

So glad to see you back, big hugs to you. I have knitted two pair of toe up socks so far.
“You’re the gnome that I want honey, you hoo hoo lol”. You made my day
My word for the year is Breakthrough. It's the meeting of clarity, momentum and direction.
As always great to watch your video. 🇬🇧
Thank you!! I'm so glad you enjoyed it.
That was wonderful thank you I have read most of your book recommendations and love them so thank you❤
On the Shadow Wrap Short Row Heel you once spoke about doing a small gusset with it for added room across the heel instep area I would love to know more about that 🥰thank you and looking forward to a wonderful 2925 of knitting
I have no word or phrase for this year. Plodding along as usual. I think the shadow wrap video(s) will be a hit.

If you are referring to the leg of the sock, you can knit as many rounds as you like to make it as long as you like.
I too am holding on to my joy, and refuse to be sucked in by the fear mongers. I believe that by thinking and living positive I attract positivity and I love that.
Happy New Year to you and your family, from Swansea, Illinois. 🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤
Merci pour cet épisode et une très belle année à toi et tes proches d’un tricoteur podcasteur de France 🇫🇷
C’est toujours un plaisir de regarder de tes podcasts 👍🙏✨
I definitely recognized that song. John Travolta and Olivia Newton John.
No idea why, but gnomes are crazy addictive. All of a sudden you’ll have a million. Handspun beards are the best- you’ll need to explore that.
That is so sweet!!! Thank you SO MUCH!!! 🥰
Hello D love you ❤❤❤❤
Hello Deloris!!! ❤️
Of course I recognize that song! 😂😂
“Create Beauty Everyday” is my phrase for 2025
Love your phrase!!!!
My husband's last name is Scandinavian for "gnome" so our house is filled with the little guys😁
Can you tell me the name of the book you mentioned by Cookie?
Hi:) love your videos! Just wanted to recommend a book to you that I started listening to, and maybe I shouldn’t be recommending it because I’m only about halfway through it but I just feel like you would love it! It’s called Tainted Cup by Robert Jackson Bennett and the narrator is doing a fantastic job and it’s a murder mystery set in a kind of a fantasy world it’s very very interesting and exciting!
🤣🎵I think I gneed to knit a gnome
Love Noodle❤️🤗🧶
I love her too!!!
Have you heard of Story Graph instead of Good Reads? It’s owned by black women and not connected to Amazon like Good Reads is. Thanks for the recommendations, both knitting and reading.
I have and was reminded of it the other day!!! I think I may go with that instead!!!
HA! I think beard is my word, I am going to be accepting of all girl beards this year including my own chin hairs 😅
