A couple points for the rules: 1) you asked about the traversing shots for against the cavalry, there is a 12" range and the unit must cross at least half of the shooting unit's front, so I'd say no to traversing fire. 2) if you charge an enemy unit (such as the imperial pikemen who crossed the bridge), then said enemy is engaged and can no longer be shot. It makes you have to pick and choose both who and when to charge. Thanks again for the battle report! It's quite fun to see someone else playing Pike and Shotte. Something that will probably help both armies is to have more commanders. My friend and I found 3 battalia commanders (usually one for the left, one for the right, and 1 for the center) works really well. Even having a 2nd commander makes the command mechanics MUCH more forgiving!

I love the sub plot of the Grey regiment being in shock due to the absolute bloodbath at the bridge and only snapping out of it in the very last turn to support the Swedish desperation rally, which basiclly summed up the entire Swedish game leading up to that point. I have to say I didn't know what to expact from this, because I don't know an aweful lot bout the TYW or seen any battle report from this period but this was very entertaining.
Im glad you liked it and found it entertaining. A good game needs immersion and story. Im trying to get a new game up with my friend. The Sweds will be back and push that river crossing again. See if I can do a bigger game next time. Thank you. 😀😎👍

Nice game and really nice models In turn 8 though the Swedish Grey regiments muskets could not fire at the Pikemen (pg 46) since they are engaged in close combat But keep posting videos, need more Pike & Shotte on TH-cam
Thank you. It did not go as planed for the Swedish. That was to mass rush the bridge with all Pikes and charge with cavalry in south. A disaster, but a fun one. Going to plan the next game better and bigger. 😀👍
A very exciting climax to the bloody encounter at the bridge! I think this shows that you can still win a battle, even when you start with a hangover! 😆 You asked about the rules about firing during a charges. Take a look at p53 ‘Traversing Target’. I think this is the only way you can fire when the enemy charge, if you are not the target of the charge. (We have added a special rule that Commanded shot who are supporting cavalry can fire at enemy charging the cavalry. Just a ‘house’ rule.) Looking forward to more battles - revenge for the Swedish troops👍.
Thank you. Yes I need to read again on " Traversing Target" Page53. But I really do like your house rule for the Commanded shot. That is how they worked on the battlefield. The cavalry fallback behind the Commanded shot to reload their wheellock pistol and Commanded shot gave them protected fire. Also one tactic could be to draw enemy cavalry close then fall back to your Commanded shot. Bait the enemy cavalry in to the Commanded shot´s volley fire. While your own cavalry hide behind them. Then counter charge the enemy cavalry after the Commanded shot have softed them up. 😀👍
