    If you haven’t yet, I would read Into the Odd and the starter adventure included there. The system from that book, adapted to make Mausritter, is very clear on “Perception.” Players should be asking questions as they play, and the referee has to be truthful with their answers. Traps are telegraphed, and secrets are revealed as players poke around a room. Hiding information behind a Perception check is a vestige of D&D that I would encourage everyone to leave behind.
    What I like about Into the Odd is the way Chris details a room. Immediately perceivable information is written normally. Secret information is written in italics, and is given to players who sufficiently interact with the room or characters in the room.
    I’m confident that games are much more fun when players can’t look at each other and say “well we know something’s here, but we failed our check so I guess we’ll never know for sure.” I would not reintroduce perception checks, especially not in games like Mausritter.

      These are good points. I will take them into consideration next time we play!

    Great video! I am currently reading through the rules of Mausritter and the game looks awesome. You addressed precisely all the things that got me thinking during my read: how to make it a bit harder for PC's to die, how to handle perception checks, and introducing an intelligence stat. I really like your solutions, so I'll be checking out your homebrew rules.

      Awesome! Tyvm! I love Mausritter, such a great game for narrative-driven play, and a great intro for people new to the hobby.

    I adore Mausritter because it allows one go on an adventure in our own world. By simply shifting the perspective to a mouse, going from your apartment to the street becomes a complex and exciting endeavor.
    Meeting a rat will be like meeting an orc and a cat like a being confronted with a dragon.
    Your daily life suddenly becomes expanded by a sense of adventure.
    BTW I gotta recommend the graphic novel Scurry - super inspiring IMO when planning a Mausritter adventure.

      Hmmm some high quality art for sure! I love Mausritter because of the simple rules that let you RP as you like, and monster design is easy for the GM.

      Thanks! Uhmm it is a few songs. All are available from the TH-cam Creator's studio as free to use. You can download them from there. Song 1 is Leaning on the Everlasting Arms by Zachariah Hickman, then Yonder Hill and Dale by Aaron Kenny, last one is Nature Nuture by Quincas Moreira.

    I think death is an essential mechanic in this game. A small mouse can’t just survive this much damage and shrug it off with a scar or a sprained back

    • @TheManyVoicesVA

      You are entitled to your opinion of course.
      I think scars tell stories. More so than a random death.

    I’m currently about to start a solo game of Mausritter using the Mythic GME 2E and had been trying to find ways to give my PC more of an advantage since I’m playing solo.
    First off, I made a second PC to play and I’m just rolling all my saves with an advantage. Of course both my PC’s got 1 HP in their rolls 😅😂 so you scars mechanics are an amazing idea!

    Another option is to mirror stats. I've done that with BX. "Do this, and all your stats are now 21 minus the stat you rolled."

    • @TheManyVoicesVA
      @TheManyVoicesVA  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Can you elaborate a bit? You have players roll 2d6 and subtract it from 21 to get their stats? That would result in some very competent characters in this system lol.

    • @PeacefulPorcupine
      @PeacefulPorcupine 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@TheManyVoicesVA If it's 3d6 rolls, it's from 21. If it's 2d6 rolls, it would be from 14. The point is to give an option where functionally, all the 1s become 6es and the 6es become 1s, then offer the chance to apply that filter to characters with bad rolls. I used it on old BX D&D, range of 3-18, so someone who rolled a 4 now has a 17, and their 14 becomes a 7.

    • @TheManyVoicesVA
      @TheManyVoicesVA  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@PeacefulPorcupine It's interesting. The reason I did Wits the way I did is because rolling a really bad character feels bad. Linking perception to being a bad character is a good mechanic imo. It makes people not just want to get their mouse killed lol.

  • @yeehawmcskrrtskrrt5711
    @yeehawmcskrrtskrrt5711 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    This may be a dumb question but when you say to round down for calculating wit, is it being rounded down to 5 or 10? (like for example, if after the division is done, a player has a 6, is that then rounded to 5 and added back to whatever the original number was?) Sorry, I'm kinda slow 😅

    • @TheManyVoicesVA
      @TheManyVoicesVA  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      That may have been an oversight... it is all just subtraction now, so no need to round. I think I had a like "add all stats up and divide by 3" as the original calculation oops lol.

      Kinda is! I have played a few sessions now, and it is a very sleek and fun experience. Heavily narrative based and so simple that it is easy to slot in new rules or have players come up with creative solutions to problems.
