You've sold me on this book. I also think, Ash, that you'd like One-Shot Dungeon, a solo rpg game that's fast, easy to learn, and super fun, I play it all the time when not HeroQuesting!
The more I think about it, the more I see homebrews and unofficial guides pop up online, the more I learn about how easy it is to produce custom 3D sculpts of new (and classic) characters, the more I think Avalon Hill would be wise to produce a new version of the "Adventure Design Kit" with new board, tiles, a host of new minis, and some kind of software for printing your own custom cards and quest maps.
Another good tip is, when you playtest your quest, cheat! Do everything possible to break your quest or skip large chunks. Players will do things you won't think of, so do your best to stop thinking like you, and start thinking like them.
That is actually a great point I never considered. Cheat, just like those dirty heroes 😆 (or pull a fellow hero in to help you think of ways to break it!)
Thank you for the amazing review. I had a ton of fun writing it and laying out the book.

I ordered a print copy from DriveThru RPG!

I'll purchase it. Thank you Amalgamash
The murder mystery rule makes me want to play a clue game with the HQ board and furniture with some kind of revised search function.
Does the advice given for designing side quests work for designing main quests?
For the most part, yes. It gives a lot of details about designing full quests too.
