This 100 Free Field Was CRAZY Fast

- Chris Guiliano and Jack Alexy just went 1-2 in the men’s 100 free at the 2024 US Olympic Trials
And hearing that I’m sure one thing immediately comes to mind, yes Caeleb Dressel will NOT get a chance to defend his gold medal from 2021. But let’s take a look at the NEW faces in this event.
Alexy came last in the Olympic 100m final and was completely bitter and disrespectful to the new world record holder Pan Zhanle.
I knew Dressel was in trouble of missing the individual spot after prelims
It was never going to be easy with the field that deep
@@PropulsionSwimming definitely, it'll be even deeper in Paris, I'm excited to see it
That's a weird take. Dressel had a great prelims swim. Alexey looked like a monster, but there was nothing indicating Dressel couldn't drop 0.5 and make it.
Sadly Dressel is never at his fastest at trials. I truly believe Dressel is still the fastest swimmer at the Olympics, he just needs that second taper.
Huge fan of Dressel but I don’t think he’s winning any event this yr at the Olympics (even if he makes the 50 free or 100 fly)
@@verward A 0.5 difference is very big in the pool. Very big.
That Lezak 46.06 is still so insane, IMO the best relay leg ever. He brings the entire relay team's average down by almost 4 tenths of a second.
crazy draft from a huge frenchman + super suits
duncan scott split a 46.14 in jammers. arguably more impressive... he was drafting adrian while lezak drafted the frenchie
Cate Campbell's 50.93 split is better and it was without a supersuit
@@sammy45654565 yup, we may not see a split like that without a draft
@@CaptonicCapricorn I'm not sure it's better bc Lezaks stakes were higher but both incredible swims
Not necessarily a Dressel fan, but when you're the defending champion, you should get some special consideration. I'm not familiar with the Olympic rules, but if it's not an international restriction that all countries can only enter 2 athletes, then the US should consider adding a 3rd spot for defending champs, as long as they make the qualifying time.
Leaving Dressel out, especially when he's this close makes no sense to me.
The format is the format. That is what makes the Trials so special...and heartbreaking. Dressel is an absolute stud and one of the best sprinters in history, but he was beaten by two faster guys last night. This is not his best individual event. He will win the 50 and likely the 100 fly.
Not a chance. Even if they allow caeleb to compete individually, the podium will end at 47.0 if not 46.9.
@@SigaAlfredo1well look at popovici
Doing 46.8
@@SigaAlfredo1 The point is not that he would win gold in Paris, but I think there's something special when you win the gold medal by defeating the previous champ, instead of the previous champ watching the race from his sofa.
What a dumb suggestion.
They'll probably just give him the leadoff in the 4x100
100% because of his start
These videos are so great. They have the exact right amount of stats and context to satisfy swimming nerds while still keeping the content very accessible for everyone. Keep up the good work!
Cannot believe Dressel allowed Alexy and Giordano to take him
David Popovici was actually crazy fast, a day before, with 46.88, at the European Championships.
Chlorinedaddy is taking home the double gold in Paris 🥇🥇
This is confirmation that 400 MTR relay gold is going to USA
I hope Dressel wins the 50 by half a body length. ❤
I'd love to see it but he doesn't look like his speed is fully there.
@@snowpants2212 I win 😜
Immense floppage from these two boys in Paris after being hyped to the heavens.
This video was made early enough in 2024 Trials to look a little bleak for Caeleb Dressel. In addition to swimming the 4x100 relay, Caeleb will individually defended his 2020 gold medals in the 50m freestyle and 100m butterfly.
Armstrong breathing every six on the way home. Top three guys breathing every 2...
I was sure Dressel wouldn't come back to where he was before.
I swim 46 every single day..no problem…in my dream😂😂😂😂
Relay splits are faster correct? Don't you jump as there coming into the wall? Your in mid air while there touching the wall, it's a FS if your jumping over your teammate and hit the water before they touch the wall?
Relay splits are typically faster yes. But you can't be fully in the air before your teammate touches the wall, at least part of your body has to be touching the blocks even if its just your big toe. Meets at any higher level will have pads on the blocks to detect false starts.
The general rule is to subtract about .5 per relay start, if you're doing fast starts your reaction time should be about .1 or lower compared to about .6-.5 for a flat start.
Feel like dressel should be able to swim
It's still so hard to overcome that Lezak 46.06. That's why that's the last record from Beijing
Now it's 45.92😅
