I like my meters from Astro. I have a DM6000AR MM and a CM4KOR dc amp clamp/MM. The test leads are junk but I made my own using silicone wire and stackable banana jack ends. I bought cases for both and assemble kits with needle probes, back probes, piercing probes, and aligator clips. All in I have less than $100 usd in them and they work perfect for automotive diags. Must have tools. Cheers👍
Excellent training video and well presented. If one knows and understands electrical and electronic fundamentals then a multimeter can be used to great effect before having to call on the Pico for more in depth troubleshooting. Most electricians have at least more than one multimeter of a different brand, this is because if one gets a reading that is unexpected then the other multimeter can be used to confirm the reading. I use Fluke and Brymen meters.

In a one hour video, he explained Automotive Diagnosis with an inexpensive DMM better than what we have learned over weeks & months of hands-on work with costly or fiddly special-purpose or bodged-up tools. If I ever have to defuse the trigger of a nuke set to destroy the world, guess whom I am calling for advice 😄

Demonstrate for us useing a tailpipe gas analyzer and a dmm to find a fault on an OBD2 car without useing a scan tool The same way OBD1 diagnostitions would have to do it . Can it be done ?
@@richardnilsen5 the problem with the tail pipe analyser is all the exhaust gas has been through the cat; you’re not getting a true reading of combustion gas. The O2 sensor and fuel trims should help. I sat on a course with Brandon Steckler recently and he is doing some cool stuff with volumetric efficiency and absolute load values 👍

@@jdavis8610 As it’s often the case! I suppose you could load the circuit with a bulb or test light. You just need to be careful not to overload the circuit (use a suitable load similar to the original)
I am facing a problem that I can't solve and many garages refuse to do,reason:my car is 23 years old.After a few problems to start I managed it to start, but then in June it was all doing crank no start and blinking the immobilizer symbol. I own a Suzuki Baleno 1.8. the faultcodes the scanner spat out: P1621 and P1623. Tried to have the immobilizer written out of my ecu,not working and an emulator bypass also failed. Strange thing is my fuel pump is not humming. I tried to transfer the Ic's of my old immobilizer to a 2nd hand and nothing happens, car cranks no start. People around me tell me to get rid of the car, money is an issue but the car has an emotional value to me.I used a multimeter to check the wire from the immobilizer connector to the ecu and all wires are fine.Any direction to solve this problem? The car failed MOT( live in the Netherlands) .Is it possible because the fuel pump is not working to trigger the immobilizer codes like: The transponder not registered and communication line error? I am at lost here and I have nobody capable to solve the problem unless I pay them thousands of euro's...

Where were the days when you did not need any of this tools.Now and again a test light.Imagine you are in the middle of a snow storm or an desert and one of the sensors or control modules go.
Dooods who can't drive a manual-gear-box car are hardly likely to try repairing their car on the road. That's what they buy expensive insurance for. Me, I'm looking for a ModelT or CJ3
@MechanicMindset Don't know just very similar with the auto ranging and button layout. Looks like a good meter to be fair 👌 I always find resistance is the test of a good meter

@@martijn8337 We used the Fluke 1507 at JLR, you’re right, not many testers can load with significant current for the resistance check. The 1507 will power a small motor or lamp in the ohms setting!
My multimeter is a klein mm400 from home depot , its built wierd as hell , but once you figure it out it aint bad , you turn it on bu setting it to volts , but it wont measure volts , until you push function , then it shows millivolts , i tell anyone that uses it , that it was built by idiots 😂😂

What do you use for checking equipotential bonding? I found that not many meters offer this type of testing.

I use the GMTO EV Multitester , it’s less then half the cost of the fluke and just as good. Yes it is a 200mA test.
