In a lot of Opel / Vauxhall there is no temperature gauge and is very difficult to know if your car is overheating especially when you are driving your car as you cannot see any sign of smoke or anything like that as you are driving this can cause major engine failure as you do not know anything is wrong why would this video we show you a secret menu where you can see a live temperature Reading from your engine and it's free the best things in life are free
With this video it can save you from destroying your engine you can monitor it if you see a problem pull over and hopefully stop permanent damage I don't understand why Opel don't put a temperature sensor in their car this is what causes a lot of engine problems because you cannot tell if your engine is overheating until it's too late
⚠ BEWARE ⚠ - in certain firmware versions, access to hidden menu causes random wake-ups of infotainment system if the vehicle is parked so the battery will be fully drained in 2-3 days! The way to reliably undo this problem is to disconnect the battery, wait a minute and then re-connect, so the infotainment is reset. (Then it is no longer in hidden menu mode. Hidden menu mode can be also switched off by the same button sequence as it is switched on, but I am not sure whether it is also as sufficient as disconnecting the battery to stop battery drain.)
I learned this hard way, when I used temperature indicator all the time using this trick and car service were not able to find cause of my battery drains for several years. Once I stopped using this mode and reset the system, the draining issue "suddenly" disappeared.

I'm glad I came upon this comment. Thank you so much. I have been hunting for nearly 3 years for a solution to my battery drain problem. My car is a 2012 Zafira B with A16XER engine. As you say my battery was nearly dead after 2 or 3 days being parked up. I had been checking the engine temp with the secret menu as my rad fan would only work when the engine was really hot. I think/suspect the fan resistor is done. Anyway, when I put my ampere meter in series I was getting 0.5amps draw for 30 secs every 15 mins regular as clockwork. I pulled the fuse for the radio and the draw disappeared. Thinking that the problem was solved I drove the car without the radio working for a few months and all was good. On a whim I tried the meter again and my draw was back but only 0.3 amps for 30 secs every 15 mins. So, I can start the car after 7 days ( I only use the car once a week ) but when I check the voltage it's around 12.3V. I'll try your solution tomorrow and check the draw again and let you/everyone know the results.
Apparently, VX advertisement at time of Astra H release was no temperature gauge to reduce information driver saw so less bombarding with info whilst driving.
Personally, a temperature gauge would be nice, if the red coolant light comes on the engine might already be seized...

Out of interest what should optimum temperature be when idling and after a short journey? My newly purchased astra seems to be getting very hot! Thank you for any help!
The spec in the haynes manual says that the opening temperature for the thermostat valves ( the things that allow coolant to go around your engine once its up to temp is 92°c on the petrol 1.4 and 90-105°c on the 1.6-1.8l petrol engines depending on the valve you have fitted. I own the 1.4 and I've not seen it above a 96°C (85-95°c is the standard temp for pretty much any engine i think)
Wish I’d known about this when I had my Astra. Steam from under the bonnet was the first indication of something wrong. Penny pinching by Vauxhall. Last my last one I’m afraid.

And we have 2 buttons under the screen the right button is the cycle through for us not bc
Not sure if you can change or assign the special button..but if your car doesn't cycle through try the other buttons.

I had a Zafira B 08 reg 1.9 CDti 150 bhp for 5 years and never knew that. How much harder would it have been to do what most other manufacturers do and have a dial fitted to the dashboard?
My wife’s £35k BMW (2017) doesn’t have a coolant temp gauge either and the instrument panel looks early 1990’s. The coolant temp gauge is an indicator for so many things that could be going wrong.
I would assume it stands for velocity stands to reason I think

They assumed their owners did not need to know as there would be a warning prompt somewhere. Australian Holdens use to have a warning light and no gauge in the 60s and 70s.
You cannot be a good old fashioned temperature gauge in my opinion

For me V shows my speed. So I guess is my current speed.
I cant get this to work on my Meriva, Have the CD 30 with the settings and BC buttons to the right of the knob, get as far as press and hold the settings button, get audio and the beep, but cant scroll through

They hid it because the engines run so hot that a temp gauge would be too alarming for the general public
Not really because they don't have to put the temperature on the temperature gauge just a little red patch so you know once you are in that you are overheating
@@bodgitandleggitgarage VW fake it with a plateau function on the temperature gauge. Every thing from 90 to 110 is displayed as 90. Only once did it move from 90 when my poly v belt broke.

Some of the older vw caddys did not have a temperature gauge either! Not sure about the more modern ones.
It's just stupid in my opinion not to have a temperature gauge one of the most important gauges to have in your car

The 1.9 CDTI was a bulletproof engine. Many still ticking along with 150-210,000 miles. Sadly, they adapted them with a terrible 6 speed gearbox. Which would need rebuilding, and often break again within 18-24 months of being rebuilt.

Vauxhall / Opel dont tell you a lot of things. You can reset service due indicator & read engine trouble codes without a code reader very easily. Take your vauxhall to a franchised (st)ealership & they will happily take 20 and 80 pounds respectively from you !!

Same here I have the 2006 CD and get "no function" when I attempted this.
Mine does the same but keep pressing BC to cycle through the different screens, once it says no function again you can leave it and it will return back to the radio screen.

Is OT not outside temperature? My roof would not open on my twin top some say it is to do with the outside temp sensor.
No sens bit you see on his screen is outside temp thats why it matches the temp in the corner of the display screen

I didn't know the newer vauxhalls removed them from the tachometer, my Zafira A has the temp gauge on the tacho
The temperature gauge is one of the most important gauges in my opinion should be on every car regardless
what does : Sens.: 11.0 stand for ?? i rly need to know , and why mine is Sens.: -40.0
Its stands for the outside temp you have a broken temp sensor thats why its reading minus 40 . You’ll find it in the bottom grill on your front bumper really easy to fix

I'd like to know too. Because my zafira runs at or just under 105 and people have said thats very high
@@KirstyDavidson93 My Zafira was running usually at about 90°C, but recently it runs at 105-110°C. I found out that cooling radiator fan doesn't work at all. Check this out, maybe you have the same problem.

Not excessive, but if coolant mixture is too rich in ethylene glycol (over 50%) and less water it can cause problems. Remove some coolant from expansion tank when cool and add distilled water.
