I love this cast on, and since I learned magic loop first, I find it less fiddly than multiple DPNs. As you say, it’s what you learn first that sticks! These are adorable. They would make great gifts (or wrapping for small treats) in a Secret Santa scenario, too!
My daughter is always after me to knit more sweaters for her "dolfie dolls" so I have changed the guage to 4mm for the rib and 5mm for the body and sleeves using a worsted weight (#4) acrylic yarn. I'm going to surprise her with a new jumper for her dolls every day in December along with a treat in the "mini" closed bottom jumper. Thanks guys! By the way, Ambria has Cerebral Palsy and uses a wheelchair. Her dolls are VERY important to her. Vivian Ann off grid on the side of the mountain in northeast Tennessee
I too just purchased the Advent Sweater Pattern and the Norwegian Yarn from Rowan via your link. I think I will string them from my fireplace....they are so adorable. Thank you for the WONDERFUL TRIP to Setesdal! It was better then any travel show I have ever seen and the countryside was so beautiful and the artisans were so facinating! I have watched each episode multiple times and keep learning more things each time. And Carlos, all the work you did for the translation was EXCELLENT and much appreciated! I look forward to another journey into a different section of Norway next summer, maybe to Bergen or Oslo? I have traveled through Norway and have always told everyone it is like "heaven on earth" as each twist and winding road leads to another adventure. But, to see it thru the eyes of you designer's eye is very special! Thank you so much too for sharing all the Setesdal patterns too. I cannot tell you which episode was the best as they all were so unique and ending with the wonderful interview representing the music of Setesdal. When I traveled there with my daughter her high point was in Bergen at the Home of Edvard Grieg as she is a pianist. We traveled in June and joyously had a wonderful snowfall as well. I can't wait to get started on these adorable sweaters and I will have a very special Advent Calendar! Thanks for sharing all your knowledge and I look forward to another year of wonderful episodes....I love Sit and Knit for a Bit as we really get a feel for your life, and the technique and special episodes are so unique to any other You Tube Channel. Would you consider sharing more of your sewing knowledge? I have sewn all my clothes since I was 8 years old and love when you have sewing segments as well....it was especially interesting to see how you sew a Norwegian Sweater together. You have had such special lives and are a real Norwegian treasure. Carlos, since you are from Sweden would you consider a trip to some part of Sweden? My special interest is the Crafts of the Sami people. Just something to consider....Thanks for all the joy you bring me and getting me through Covid lockdown alone with my doggies. It was like having friends in the house with us. Have a wonderful Holiday Season!!! Most Sincerely, Sandy
The closed cast on reminds me of one I have used called Judy's Magic Cast On, w/ DPNs for socks. I've never tried magic loop so this is a learning adventure for me!
It is the same, although Arne scoops one of the needles in a different direction from what I do, but I think I may be the odd person out. If I remember from so long ago, when I started using Judy’s magic caston, I think I changed the direction because it bugged me to have one side of the stitches seated incorrectly (even though you can just knit them through the back leg when you do the first row).I’m just kind of stubborn 😏. I’m also quite sure I’ve done it with DPNs, but I get what Arne is saying - it’s a very tight and awkward first row after the caston, so probably not worth it.
I had the same thought. It's always neat to see how age-old tradition and individual ingenuity cross paths! I've also thought about somehow carrying the technique forward to join glove fingers as you go, so you create the live stitches for the next finger and put them on hold, rather than picking up from the previous finger. Haven't tried it yet but it's getting to be that time of year!
@@kathleendouglas4087 Years ago, I found a pattern for gloves in which every finger is double knit and, if I remember, it used a similar technique to what you describe for joining.
Thank you for showing magic loop and sweaters! my mom would knit sets of Norse mittens that were xmas decorations that were about 2 in. x 1 inch and she knit with toothpicks!..4 or 5 picks at a time like double pointed...that was before magic loop was born!
Because I find you both so charming, I taught myself how to knit last year. I had so much fun making Christmas balls. :). I bought the little sweater calendar pattern for this year, and I can’t wait to try them. But I haven’t a clue how to add the sleeves. Could you please do a slow tutorial on how to do that? I would really appreciate it!! :)
I love your tutorials and podcasts.I watch them over and over again.!!IReally want to try to knit the Norwegian way.It Looks so much quicker than the way I knit!I will use a circular needle though. The Norwegian purl looks too complicated !!
I love this pattern. Thank you so much for making this fun advent calendar. I have never knitted a sweater from bottom up I was wondering if you have video on sewing the sleeves on. Thanks
Great! So Cute! Just bought the pattern. I might do an initial instead of a number, and use them as gift tags. (I know for a fact I will never finish the calendar this year...)
Ah that's a lovely idea, I know for a fact I won't get them all made. I was thinking of doing four for the Sundays of advent, but maybe initials for the family would be cute too
i‘m a very slow knitter struggling with sockknitting for christmasgifts so i‘m not able to knit this little sweaters this year but i‘m really hooked for the countdown to the countdown for christmas 😹 … it’s the most wonderful time of the year … singing 🙃 ( be glad you can’t hear me 😹 ) have a good time ❤️❤️❤️
I am on my second sweater. This time I am using magic loop for the whole thing. Seems more comfortable for my old bones. It is nice to see the whole side while looking at whole pattern. May keep using this method. Next I want to try doing both sleeves at same time. I just hope the edges are not too loose. I enjoyed the story of how you met. We will celebrate our 50th next June. Trying to decide where to travel. Thanks for letting me visit with you guys.
I have been using magic loop for years and once you get used to it it is a lot of fun. What I also realized was I have developed a Christmas tradition with the both of you! I must say I cannot do a Christmas without seeing the countdown and I just adore it every single year❤️
I could not believe my eyes when I saw these little cuties. I bought the pattern and can't wait to get started. Thank you for being so clever and designing such wonderful pieces.
Each single sweater of your calender 2021 is so pretty. The figure and the colours. Thumps up. 👍👍👍 I can't believe it, in 10 weeks christmas 2021 is over. I remember exactly Arne' s cookies bakery and knitting balls for the tree. Years run too fast.
I just crocheted a little sweater for a friend. I left it open and it was a cozy for his beer bottle. I may try this in crochet- a great way to dip my toe into colourwork this way!
I have the pattern and will get the yarn tomorrow! I love these sweaters! I use Judy’s Magic Cast-On, as modified by Cat Bordhi, on my toe up socks and knit all small circumference items with 2 - 16” circulars which I prefer over DPNs and magic loop. I have quite a stash of those needles as I like to knit my socks concurrently and usually have two or more sets going!
I just learned Judy magic loop for toe up socks. Perfect timing. I bought the pattern, now I’m ready to knit those cute little jumper. I’m sure my niece & nephew will love them. Thank you always for great pattern.
How FUN! I had to purchase the Advent of Sweaters! I can't wait to get started. I am not familiar with the magic loop, I watched you but probably will end up watching you a gazillion times to get it right. Thank you both for always, always sharing joy. I love you two!
This video will be on repeat a million times! What is easy for you is not for me! Who knows, I just may get it after the one millionth and one try! The sweaters are ever so cute. I love this calendar idea. I don't know how long this will take me to finish. There is Christmas in July, right! Oh the things we will learn this season! Can't wait! Keep it all coming! 🥰😊😁
LOVED seeing all the jumpers completed together. It seems many fans are already knitting them! I am seeing them pop up in my feed already this week. 👏👏👏 A great tutorial for the closed cast-on with magic loop. I know it will be appreciated. And thank you for starting the holiday season knitting early. Can't wait to see what you reveal during Advent.

Those little jumpers are darling. But I cannot start another project. Can't. I am trying to finish a small Christmas table cloth, stamped cross stitch embroidery, yes, to have finished by this year 😋 that I picked up as a kit at a yard sale this summer. Those little sweaters are so cute! Thank you for showing the closed cast on. It helped me understand how magic loop works too as I am also a double point person.
You have made this simple to understand and taken away the demons I had lurking around magic loop and especially around closed cast on (Judi's Magic Cast On). Thanks so much for the lesson. Ha det bra!
I used to knit with dpns but since I have two little girls I knit with magic loop because I store the knitting on the cable and they don't manage to draw the stitches off (yet). Wonderful sweaters!
Finally figured it out after trying and starting over many times. I used the magic loop over the dpns. Waiting for the tutorial on how to attach the sleeves! Thanks.
I was planning to buy the Christmas Balls pattern until I saw this video. I just bought both the mini jumper advent and the Christmas balls advent pattern. LOL! Thank you Arne & Carlos! I can't wait to start knitting them.
I love love love the little Norwegian sweaters for advent💕 I wish I could knit as well as you. Love your channel and so enjoyed the trip to Setesdal. Would love if you took a road trip to Oslo. My mom and grandma were born there, mom 1920, grandma 1900. I visited in 1999. Best trip ever.

Hi Arne and Carlos...I am so happy...the little sweaters are so cute! By the way I would love to see a crochet thing for the next calendar. Thank you for doing these amazing stuff 😍!
Looks great. I have downloaded it and will start. When you said that you have a closed cast on I first thought of casting on like when you double knit. Then I saw the method you used and I will try it. Can’t wait to start. Take care and thanks for the pattern. I think I might hang them with little close pins like a garland
Just love the little sweaters! You made the closed cast-look so easy. Can’t wait to try it with the Rowan Norwegian Wool designed by our own Arne and Carlos! The colors are scrumptious!
I will definitely be knitting these for future years! I learned how to knit in the round with magic loop first and then DPNs. But I much prefer DPNs, I knit faster and the tension is better than when I use magic loop.
I never enjoyed doing magic loop, but knit with 2 circular needles the Cat Bordhi. You can do this cast on with two circular needles. Just the way I learned to knit socks top down. Beautiful little sweaters.
This is an early Christmas gift to have these cute patterns. I love the idea of one full size of each. That would be a lot of knitting but each pattern would work well in full size. I am thinking about combining them into a infinity scarf/ cowl. We'll see if I can figure out how to make it work. I was thinking to do that with the patterns from last year to tell your winter festival scene or a blanket by converting them to squares. You are so inspiring. Love all of the patterns for your new yarn as well.
I really hate magic loop, all that pulling. But I am happy to say that using 2 16” circulars works great! No long loop of cord to pull. And the can be used for the whole sweater. Front on one, the back on the other. Love these beautiful mini sweaters! My Grandkids are going to love finding treats in these! ❤️
I will try this! I've done closed cast ons with three dpns, one of them a smaller size -- it's still tight, though. Magic loop would make that easier. I'm with you, I'd switch back to dpns as soon as possible though. I don't like the loop hanging around and having to pull it through while I knit.
Thank you! I love all the little sweaters! I agree Carlos how can you choose one! Wish they came in my size! They would take me all year to knit! Best get ready now for year 2022 ..... xx 😘💕😘
I found this pattern a bit to late for 2021, but given the fact I am not a very experienced knitter, nor a very fast one, I think I'm just in time to pick up this project for next year. I found this explanation very clear and easy to follow! So thank you again.
Hey you two, those are so cute. They would make great ornaments. Just would have to find coat hangers small enough. You guys are so colorful. Thank you🤗👍🏼
They are just adorable, I have my pattern ready. I know for certain I'll struggle to do more than one a week, so I won't have 24 ready for this Christmas, gives me something to do in January!
The little sweaters are beautiful thank you for the magic cast on I've been knitting a long long time and never used it but Arne made it look easy I've learned something new xx
😂 just followed the cast on technique on very very slow speed, perfect although I couldn’t help a giggle at how you both sounded like you had hit the bottle 😂😂😂👏👏
Love these mini sweaters. I’m not sure if I’ll make them for this Christmas but it could be a fun project for next year. I might make a few as gift tags for presents.
These sweaters are so cute and provide good practice for learning new skills. OK, their cuteness got to me and decided how I would like to use them and purchased the pattern. By any chance will you do a video on connecting the sleeves to the body, or have you made a video already that might help me with that step? Just a little confused. Thanks so much!
Those little sweaters are so beautifully cute 😍The patterns are on my table let’s start and have fun! Thank you Arne and Carlos it’s such a good idea !
So many possibilities with these, wonderful! My Nan taught me a closed cast on with dpns 🥰 I do not know what it’s called but grateful to be able to use it in a modern pattern. 😁
I LOVE this project!! The little sweaters are so sweet. Maybe one day I will learn to knit?? In the meanwhile I will continue to watch and enjoy you two. I'm looking forward to the Christmas count down too! Christmas is my favorite time of year. Thank you for sharing!!

I will definitely be knitting these for future years! I learned how to knit in the round with magic loop first and then DPNs. But I much prefer DPNs, I knit faster and the tension is better than when I use magic loop.
👍
🤗 I love these little sweaters - so cute! Take care.🎄🎅🏼
You as well!
You can cast on with 2 circulars, which is my preference. Love all the sweaters.
Thank you!
I love this idea - beautiful! You two are amazing - and I love all your Christmas season videos!
Never too early for Christmas!
These are cuter than the Christmas balls last year!
Thank you!
I’m so glad I found you guys, I have learned so much from you.
We are also glad you found us!
Great tutorial. Love the jumpers. 🇬🇧
Thank you!
I tried doing that cast on with DPNs. It was awful. I will retry your way. I am now knitting socks for Christmas presents using your yarn!
We hope you like it!
I never enjoyed doing magic loop, but knit with 2 circular needles the Cat Bordhi. You can do this cast on with two circular needles. Just the way I learned to knit socks top down. Beautiful little sweaters.
This is like the simple double cast on Cat Bordhi used for some of her designs-so simple and smooth.
👍
This is an early Christmas gift to have these cute patterns. I love the idea of one full size of each. That would be a lot of knitting but each pattern would work well in full size. I am thinking about combining them into a infinity scarf/ cowl. We'll see if I can figure out how to make it work. I was thinking to do that with the patterns from last year to tell your winter festival scene or a blanket by converting them to squares. You are so inspiring. Love all of the patterns for your new yarn as well.
Thank you Julie!
Carlos is correct, it is tough to choose best one!
True!
They will love them!
Such cute little sweaters.
Thank you!
These Jumpers are beautiful. I can't wait to get started. Happy Knitting everyone.
Happy knitting!
I am currently knitting my first colourwork project - the Finnmark Cowl. I am loving it so thank you for inspiring me!
Have fun!
Best get ready now for year 2022 ..... xx 😘💕😘
Yes!
Thank you for the early release of the Advent Calendar. The Tutorial was a good review of the closed cast on
Good to hear that!
I found this pattern a bit to late for 2021, but given the fact I am not a very experienced knitter, nor a very fast one, I think I'm just in time to pick up this project for next year. I found this explanation very clear and easy to follow! So thank you again.
You are welcome! Have fun
Hey you two, those are so cute. They would make great ornaments. Just would have to find coat hangers small enough. You guys are so colorful. Thank you🤗👍🏼
You are welcome!
I make the hangers out of chenille sticks - just bend them into hanger shape.
@@kimmargittai5287 thanks Kim, you're correct. I never thought about that. I've used them so much in decorating, maybe it's the age creeping up😀
I love Christmas, too! And I do make new "things" every year!
They are just adorable, I have my pattern ready. I know for certain I'll struggle to do more than one a week, so I won't have 24 ready for this Christmas, gives me something to do in January!
Just in time for next year Christmas🎅
The little sweaters are beautiful thank you for the magic cast on I've been knitting a long long time and never used it but Arne made it look easy I've learned something new xx
😃
Hi Arne, hello Carlos. These little jumpers are very cute. It's a lovely countdown to Christmas idea xxx
😀❤️
I have my pattern. They really are very cute!! Can't wait to get started.
Great!
Those little sweaters are so beautifully cute 😍The patterns are on my table let’s start and have fun! Thank you Arne and Carlos it’s such a good idea !
it will be a lot of fun!

Thank you!
Oh these are wonderful. Cannot wait to start knitting them. So excited 🧶🧶
😊
Great jumpers love the colours great video.
So many possibilities with these, wonderful! My Nan taught me a closed cast on with dpns 🥰 I do not know what it’s called but grateful to be able to use it in a modern pattern. 😁
🙌❤
I LOVE this project!! The little sweaters are so sweet. Maybe one day I will learn to knit?? In the meanwhile I will continue to watch and enjoy you two. I'm looking forward to the Christmas count down too! Christmas is my favorite time of year. Thank you for sharing!!
I have the pattern. Now just waiting for the yarn to arrive. Looking forward to another Advent calendar KAL. 😍
We hope it arrives soon!

You as well!
Couldn't resist these cute little sweaters 🥰 so had to buy the pattern.
The magic loop cast on is new for me but I think that I can manage it.
Than for the lovely pattern and have a nice day. Greetings from The Netherlands 🇳🇱❤
Hi Corrien!
