In Serbia, orthodox christians sow seeds of wheat in pots early enough to have greenery on the Christmas table, and hang bunches of oak leaves on the doors.
I love to hear you explain and demonstrate traditional knitting techniques. Wow, the polar bear sweater is amazing! I'm going to look forward to the workshop you are developing, for sure. Merry Christmas! God Jul!
Thank you Arne and Carlos! So fun! I appreciate that you had the KAL stocking on the wall behind you. I did not get to participate in the KAL, but I am knitting the stocking 6 rows a day through Advent, as one of my daily Advent Treats!💖🤗
When you said your window was under the sink (I know you meant over) it made me laugh thinking of Carlos crouching down to look through the window at the birds.
I love learning about my Norwegian roots. Mom was 100 percent. We always had purple and one pink advent candles. We were Lutheran. On Saturday, I'm hosting my son's goddaughter, who is two in January, to learn how to roll out lefse. I'm so excited.
🕯️Love, love your traditions and your thrift shop scavenger hunt. One of my favorite things to do as well. I always say, eventually I’ll find what I’m looking for 💃🏻 You are both fantabulous!!! even in your pj’s🤩
What a lovely way to begin the advent season! Thank you for sharing all the customs, many of which my parents and grandparents did as well! Since they are all gone now, it’s a lovely reminder of those times and events. Safe travel and much love for the new god-daughter! Blissings to all of you! God Jul!
I was just in Barnes and Noble and saw a book by Dolly Parton and a magazine on Nordic style and now home watching you! Oh and gingerbread houses which reminds all of us the very fun episode when u built one! Happy first day/Sunday of Advent. Peace and blessings to you from Wisconsin.❤
We lit our first Advent candle of HOPE in church this morning. As a Norwegian American I love and appreciate you sharing the traditions. Thanks. Purple and 1 pink are traditional here with a white or Gold for the 5th to light on Christmas. I use matches to light my candles and have never put a used match back in the box. When you did and it lit the box was so funny and scary.
Your stocking is beautiful. I really enjoyed the KAL. I lined my stocking. I enjoy learning about Norwegian customs. I'm sure you will find lovely gifts in Paris for everyone! Safe travels and enjoy!
We haven’t always had a source for Kornband. When we do, we place them in the back yard near bird feeders that the birds already visit. Of course, the blue jays are such bullies sometimes, chasing the sweet chickadees and snow birds away. A&C you often say out loud the things others only hold in their thoughts. I love your genuine openness, you are a gift. Blessings to dear Zoe and her very special Godfather.
Happy Advent and Happy Holidays! Thank you for sharing your lives with us during Advent. I love seeing how you celebrate. I love the stocking I finished. You are such a wonderful blessing, year 'round!
It's heartwarming that Arne admires and appreciates the wood of the matches. I agree, never put a used match back in the box. I've never done that myself. Oh, that looks like an oat sheave.
Happy Advent! In the U.S. Episcopal Church we use blue candles, which has a connection to Sarum in England, but the third Sunday in Advent is Rose Sunday, so the candle for that week is pink. In the center of the Advent wreath there is a white candle, which is the Christ candle, and only gets lit on Christmas. I loved the stocking KAL in November, but I’m delighted that you decided to still do SAKFAB during December ❤
@ I was told that blue was the liturgical color used for the Sarum rite (Sarum being the ancient Latin name for Salisbury), but a google search suggests that it’s actually a made up thing to sell more liturgical garments 🤷🏼♀️
I use a pinecones covered with Copha fat to stick the sunflower and corn kernels to it and hang it in front of my kitchen window. The little birds, the bluetits and others love it.
Love the Royal Copenhagen China for Christmas it’s beautiful Merry Christmas to you and your families and love your show even though I’m a horrible knitter😅
I so much enjoy your Sunday Advent videos 🙂 Thank you for these. I have a matchbox story. When I was young my parents took my brother and I on a camping trip. We had a campfire outside the tent. My father lit the fire and my mother casually tossed the box of matches in the tent but with enough force that all of the matches in the box ignited! It was a medium sized box and the entire tent filled with smoke! We had to take down the tent and air it out before we could sleep in it that night!
My maternal grandfather was from Norway, so I'm 1/4 Norwegian. Love learning about the Norwegian traditions and looking forward to celebrating advent Sundays with you.
It gets dark here at around 3.30/4 too; we must be on the same geographical line. For the birds: Instead of suet balls, I make a (salt free) nut butter and stir seeds into it, and put this in jars (no lids) and hang them up side ways, so you have to make a hammock with string. Nothing drops for the mice and the big birds can't balance in the edge of the jar, but the little ones can. One of my uncles married a lady from South Africa. She laughed at us with poinsettia at Christmas as she said they're like weeds there. Arne, you cracked me up "Am I getting a gift this year?" Loved the stocking pattern this year. Thank you.
That was so wonderful Arne, to see you with one of your young cows. I suppose I am a 'buddeie' in England, where I work on my husband's dairy farm. I look after all the calves and he looks after the cows. It's not a very big farm but we love our cows and most of them have names. We sell the milk in the villages around where we live and also have a farm shop where we sell butter, cheese, ice cream, milk shakes and even fudge made from the milk from our dear cows - as well as milk and cream of course. In England we call it Baptism or Christening - there may be a subtle difference, but I don't know what it is. Wonderful SaKfaB as usual xx
Happy First Day of Advent! Also, thank you for doing the Christmas knit-along in November. I actually have it done to give to my grandson on his birthday in December so he has it in time for Christmas. I cry easily so when you talked about holding the new baby at her Christening, I started to get weepy. That's a lovely honour. Enjoy the rest of your day. See you next week.
I finished my Christmas stocking on and steamed. I have had some wonderful compliments. It was my first afterthought heal. It was easy...Thanks for your generosity.
Arne you are sooooo gooood. Love you both miss you had a wonderful time with you on the cruise in October. Thank you for such a grand time. ❤Beth & John Coxsackie , NY. USA
Happy December 1 2024,love the sweaters. I really thought you had a dress shirt on carlos. Still working on my sweater and Christmas stocking of your patterns.
Thanks for the great knit-a- long I hosted my student Christmas concert yesterday, 20 kids all playing trombone, euphonium and tuba. My favourite was the senior kids playing O Come O Come Emmanuel, such a beautiful carol
I enjoy watching you all year long, but your Christmas episodes are my favorite. Your gingerbread cookie recipe has become a tradition in our home. I have really enjoyed the Christmas KALs. Merry Christmas from South Carolina USA.
I'm one of those Norwegian-Americans who loves watching your holiday traditions! My Xmas stocking is coming along and I'll be making lefse with my grandmother's griddle for Christmas eve. Thanks for all the inspiration! God Jul!
Thank you for keeping the pattern up! When I was falling asleep last night I realized that I forgot to grab it. I’m elated! Thank you for spreading such joy all year!
you two are so enjoyable to watch! I did my first fair isle with you two. It was the 2024 Christmas stocking. It was so easy with your tips and 6 rows a day was very nice.
Use the colorful match wood to make one of those outdoor stars you made a few years ago, but in miniature as an ornament, frames for saved paper cuttings but as wall art for your dollhouse. So many things!
It's wonderful to spend Advent in Norway! I really enjoyed hearing about Christmas traditions and though I almost gasped when I realized they were real candles the matches were amazing. Best from chilly Gloucester, MA 😊
The stalk of the corn is called straw, it looks like oats (not wheat or barley) from what I can see. Before mechanisation it would be stacked in stooks to dry, perhaps your tradition is a mini stook, to share with the birds? I am just finishing off my first knitted bauble, made in a left over red and gold novelty yarn, inspires after finishing the knit along stocking. It just needs blocking, which i hope to do today. Thank you for your excellent company always, and for inspiring me to get my needles out again after about a year! Happy advent, and best wishes for Christmas.
The grains are like health food to the birds, and the doughnuts, seeds, and nuts are like a delicious, succulent meal. So it's not surprising they prefer the delicious treats you provide over the healthy grains! 😆🥰🐦
Thank you again for the KAL. It was so much fun. I finished on time, so I have a beautiful Christmas stocking to join its sister from last year. I am looking forward to seeing you on Sundays. I remember the exploding match box. That was scary. I've think I've seen all your posts since 2020. I loved the Gingerbread house. Such great memories. The memories are more special because I've spent time with you in person on the two cruises. Love you both ❤❤❤
We feed the birds in winter with fat balls filled with nuts and also strings of peanuts we hang in the tree in our garden, there are lots of different kind of feeds in the garden center available. You all have a nice week, love to see the pyjama gardeners and other shorts.
I agree with you Carlos the window at the kitchen sink is an absolute must. In our new house I could not have a window over the sink…so I insisted on a plate rack. Which my husband finally has admitted it was a good idea….I do have two large windows a few feet away that looks out into the woods. So I am happy! ❤❤❤❤
I fell in love with the candleholder you used for Advent last year, and found one for sale online, second hand, in Norway! I will light the first candle tonight once it begins to get dark. Tak!❤
Merry Christmas from Canada. There is snow here already and it looks like it is going to stay. Put up our Christmas tree today while having eggnog and cookies.
We had cloud berry jam when we were in Norway. Hmmmmmm delicious.. wish we had it here in Coxsackie,NY USA. I need to find it and get it deliver to me.
What a lovely way to start my day. Here in Adelaide Australia it is raining, which is a relief for our farmers. A lovely tradition here is the sale of the first box of cherries, the proceeds going to charity, this year the first box sold for $120,000
This advent series will be lovely. I’m interested in seeing your customs ! Oh my word! Beautiful matchbox. Lovely project , Beautiful fabrics, Arne. ❤x
We use large pinecones dipped in peanut butter and rolled in nuts and seeds and hang them in the trees. Birds enjoy them in the cold and snow, gives them energy/protein.
The knit-a-long was fantastic. Thank you for all of your hard work to put that together for us. I did complete my stocking and am very pleased with it. It was my second KAL with you. Thanks for today’s visit; it is always so enjoyable. Enjoy the baptism; it is very special.
Love this episode! You inspired me to light my first advent candle, I also have several candles from the trip on Havila last March that I will use. Enjoyed that so much I decided to go on the trip from B-K-O next year. Looking forward to seeing you both again! BTW, I’ll be using the Christmas stocking I knitted along with you as my stocking with family this year.❤
What a relief to see that Carlos won’t be putting the match back in the box! Arne, you could weave table mats with the used matches, with thin string. To put under hot dishes. It might take a few years to get enough to make it work! Or cut them in shorter lengths and glue/sew them onto felt for mug rugs. You could make designs with them. Now I wish I had some!
❤You have inspired me to make a Julenek and have a Julenek-theme Christmas next year. Our little birds get very picky at times, so we offer leftover rolls or stale bread to keep them happy. Confession: my husband fed them a doughnut last week!😊
Oh gosh - Christmas Season has arrived now! I am also feeding the birds suet balls that are hanging out my kitchen window. The chickadees LOVE them along with woodpeckers and bluejays! I watching this while I am working on a Christmas ball from your 55 balls book! So festive! 👍
Happy advent to you both! I can’t believe how fast this year has flown by. It’s all your fault the your local birds have gourmet tastes thanks to the seed balls you’ve made for them. Thanks for the advent catch up!
How fun! I celebrate Advent in my home and have for many years now also. I chose white candles this year. I'm planning on baking or cooking something weekly related to Advent, for fun and focus. This week, I am trying a Danish Advent Bread recipe. ❤ hearing about the traditions you are enjoying.
Happy Christmas season to you both! I'm still finishing my stocking but I'm very close to done. Thank you so much for the KAL! Safe travels to Zoe's christening.
Good to see you for the 1st of Advent. The daily reels with music sound delightful. Love hearing about all of your traditions. Hope you have a great week.
I'm so glad to hear that you are finally stopping putting the matches back in the box! This giant match box is so gorgeous.. but so is your house and we don't want either to burn... thank you again for another gorgeous stocking
I love the fact that Arnie always wants to find a way a way to re-use anything that is beautiful. He sees potential in all the beautiful scraps 😊
Thank you for this first Advent video, guys. Christmas just isn't Christmas without Arne and Carlos🎄🥰
Thank you Carlos. You remembered. Never put a used match back in the match box. I am so proud of you!
In Serbia, orthodox christians sow seeds of wheat in pots early enough to have greenery on the Christmas table, and hang bunches of oak leaves on the doors.
Yes, my Serbian friends do this. I love it.
I love to hear you explain and demonstrate traditional knitting techniques. Wow, the polar bear sweater is amazing! I'm going to look forward to the workshop you are developing, for sure. Merry Christmas! God Jul!
Bravo, Carlos!! 🥰👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 Arne, how you quietly reminded Carlos of the exploding match box, made me laugh!! 🙈😂😂😂
So glad you are doing advent sit ‘n bits. I enjoy watching your episodes ❤ and learning your customs
Thank you Arne and Carlos! So fun! I appreciate that you had the KAL stocking on the wall behind you. I did not get to participate in the KAL, but I am knitting the stocking 6 rows a day through Advent, as one of my daily Advent Treats!💖🤗
My stocking turned out amazing! Thank you for being so generous with your time, talent and expertise!
Its so lovely to see you. I had missed this happy, uplifting feeling. Thank you, Arne and Carlos. 😊😊❤️❤️
You guys are adorable. Thank you for sharing your Christmas preparations with us. Arne has made thrifting for gifts 'cool'.
I love your sweaters here! How nice to have holiday specials from you this month.
When you said your window was under the sink (I know you meant over) it made me laugh thinking of Carlos crouching down to look through the window at the birds.
Thank you both for all the holiday cheer! Happy Holidays! 🧶🪡👗🎄🐕🦺
I lit my advent candles while watching. I agree matches are nicer than the lighter especially when it’s something special like advent candles.
Fabulous episode! Thank you all! 💖🥰☺️💜👍😊
Arne and Carlos the Christmas Stocking KAL was so much fun. Thank you for the holiday gift to all of us. Wishing you both a very Merry Christmas.

Love the zippy ribbon here too! and thrifty Christmas

Love listening to guys. Always a few laughs and I learn a lot. Fascinated by the traditions.
Love the Royal Copenhagen China for Christmas it’s beautiful Merry Christmas to you and your families and love your show even though I’m a horrible knitter😅
I'm framing antique cards for my outside art area. I love those old cards.
Yeah for norwegians in america..we love you two guys❤❤❤

All of my great-grandparents came from Norway and our family has continued many of the Scandinavian traditions you share with us. Thank you.
The KAL was great fun! I hung mine up as soon as I finished it! Thank you again for doing the KAL!

Love the beautiful Georg Jensen candle ring, such a design classic!
"Don't drop the baby" LOL! 😆I am sure you are a fabulous godfather Carlos.
I really enjoyed the KAL☺️
Thank you,Arne and Carlos! Lovd hearing about all of your traditions.
Enjoy the Christening♥️✨

Happy December 1 2024,love the sweaters. I really thought you had a dress shirt on carlos. Still working on my sweater and Christmas stocking of your patterns.

Hello Happy Advent. Just started my second stocking! Thank you again.
Big smile winging your way. A lovely start to Advent
you two are so enjoyable to watch! I did my first fair isle with you two. It was the 2024 Christmas stocking. It was so easy with your tips and 6 rows a day was very nice.
We had our lovely first advent service yesterday as well.
Its so nice to see your advent videos❤
"I have to be at the thrift store before it closes" love it🎉
Hi guys happy to see you in real time i love looking through the doors into the next room your home is beautiful thanks for advent see you next time
Use the colorful match wood to make one of those outdoor stars you made a few years ago, but in miniature as an ornament, frames for saved paper cuttings but as wall art for your dollhouse. So many things!
Those matches are gorgeous
Can't wait 🎉🎉🎉
It's wonderful to spend Advent in Norway! I really enjoyed hearing about Christmas traditions and though I almost gasped when I realized they were real candles the matches were amazing. Best from chilly Gloucester, MA 😊
I just got in my order of your fabric. It's beautiful and I can't wait to use it.
In my church we use purple candles for advent, but a pink one for the 3rd Sunday of Advent for Mary's Joy.
I enjoyed the stocking knit along!
I put my stocking on our front door for decoration.
That's what I did. Facing so that people outdoors can see it.
Greetings to you both. I believe your grain stalks are oats. And yes, birds love them.
Thank you for being here for all of us..
We feed the birds in winter with fat balls filled with nuts and also strings of peanuts we hang in the tree in our garden, there are lots of different kind of feeds in the garden center available. You all have a nice week, love to see the pyjama gardeners and other shorts.
Big hugs!
😍❤️

❤x
Happy Sunday! I can't believe it is already December! Glad to have my stocking complete and will enjoy watching you through the holidays! ❤❤😘
I have the same advent candle holder but in polished nickel tone. They are really nice!
Loved the video. I prefer the purple candles.
The baptism sounds lovely
We use large pinecones dipped in peanut butter and rolled in nuts and seeds and hang them in the trees. Birds enjoy them in the cold and snow, gives them energy/protein.
The knit-a-long was fantastic. Thank you for all of your hard work to put that together for us. I did complete my stocking and am very pleased with it. It was my second KAL with you. Thanks for today’s visit; it is always so enjoyable. Enjoy the baptism; it is very special.
Have a wonderful time at the baptism. Pictures please! Love the purple Advent candles and the candle holder, Beautiful.
Thank you!
Want to see what Arne does with the burnt matches!
So festive! 👍
I love getting a glimpse of how you celebrate Advent. I enjoyed the KAL and now have a beautiful stocking for my new great granddaughter.
❤️
You really brightened my day. I enjoy your stories, especially about your customs and traditions.
I think, Arne, you'll find a use for that spent match in the doll's house. Good luck with it! Best wishes to both of you. ❤
I'm so glad to hear that you are finally stopping putting the matches back in the box! This giant match box is so gorgeous.. but so is your house and we don't want either to burn... thank you again for another gorgeous stocking
