    I bought these at the beginning of the summer. First time I had dropped serious $ on clubs and frankly, 110% worth it. I grew up playing cheap clubs that you’d buy in a full set, and spent my early 20s playing my great-grandfathers blade-like irons circa the late 90s. Hitting these things was like driving a rolls-Royce after only driving a beater car all my life. Amazing clubs, super forgiving, great soft feel, and I gained almost 20 yards on my 5 iron. Love these things!

      That's the way I started. Some old school blades. Then I picked up a friend's sim 2 irons and they felt so much better to hit. Still rocking the blades for now but I want to get a new set.

    I have the 2017 version and I love them. Im an 8.8 HDCP. full disclosure, I spent a lot of money on lessons. I was easily a 20 when i really started golfing but have improved my game greatly, and these clubs really help! The inspire confidence when standing over the ball, and deliver the performance. I wish my set had a gap wedge, but will likely buy a separate 50 or 52 to cover the gap left by the strong lofted PW. I would by these clubs again in a heart beat.

    I absolutely love my 2019 P790's. By far my favorite irons I've ever played. Looks are important to me and I get that with these clubs without massively sacrificing on forgiveness which I need as an 8 handicap. I also love that I can really step on them if needed. I've always preferred to take a full swing if possible and these irons allow me to do that more often by clubbing down and stepping on one. Sound and feel are great too.

    I lucked into a full set of these from a co worker who also happened to be left handed and had just gotten fit for PXG’s. He had been fit for P790’s about 1.5 years earlier. I love them. They are a huge improvement over my old old offset top flites. Even though they weren’t fit for me I feel like I’m actually playing golf now instead of embarrassing myself with every swing. I’ll probably ride them for many more years until I can justify to the wifey I need to get a full bag fitting…. You know eventually….

    Rick I made a visit to a golf store in our town and went into the simulator and I hit every game improvement iron they had. Callaway Apex, Apex DCB, Mizuno JPX Hot Metal & Hot Metal Pro, Ping G425, Taylormade Sim2, Sim Max, and M6. All of them were 7 irons. My current irons are 2006 Big Bertha. I hit my 7 iron about 135 to 140 yards. I am 64 years young and a 19 handicap. I did not hit the Callaway clubs that well. They were the first ones that I hit and I hadn't warmed up so that could have been the problem. I hit each of these irons about 148 to 153 yards on average. The young man that was helping me why I didn't grab the Taylormade P790. I told him that it looked like something that would be difficult for a higher handicap golfer to hit. He told me I would be surprised. First swing with the P790, 161 yards. Great feel with a slight draw. My normal shot is a slight fade but usually straight. Second swing, 165 yards, high ball flight with a slight draw, same great feel. Third swing absolutely sweet, 169 yards, next one, 172 yards. Never in my life have I hit a 7 iron over 150 yards. Now the bad news, the golf shop can custom fit me but will not be able to make the clubs until next year. No stock. The Taylormade P790 are the best irons that I have ever hit. Great video Rick.

    Just purchased p770s this year and absolutely love them. The only reason I didn’t go for the p790s was basically looks although they may have suited my ability level better. If these were available in April, I probably would have gone for them as slightly more forgiveness than the p770s. That said.. Rick, Thank you for this video, I have to agree with you, I am a mid handicapper and decided it was time to replace my old TaylorMade M5s, I tried for a month the PXG third gen P and I could not hit them consistently at all , I was so frustrated that ended up returning them and got back to he drawing board. I narrowed down my short list to the Mizuno Hotmetal, Mizuno pro 225, Mizuno Forged and the P790, after a long and detailed fitting session, the PI790 was the best fit for my type of swing, and ended up buying them, they are forgiving enough for my type of swing and handicap (15) , and I am over the moon how happy I am with these clubs. In term of looks, for my taste, I rated the Mizuno pro 225 first, a second close the P790 and a third the hotmetal/Forged. When I tried the Mizuno and the P790., I felt far more confident with the P790, it is possible because I am coming from the same family, for whatever reason, I was hitting the P790 longer and with less dispersion the Mizuno.....

  • @jimmierussells3904
    @jimmierussells3904 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I’ve had the 2019 P790’s for around 11 months now, and they have been an amazing set to have in the bag. They give you a lot of confidence at address and definitely a decent amount of forgiveness on slightly off center shots.
    Like Rick said, the only real worry is that if you nail one flush it can go a club further than anticipated and does mess with your head a bit. But that’s an operator error, not the clubs. Going from 17 to 8 handicap will do that. I do find myself thinking (due to being a fairly long hitter) that stronger lofted clubs may be beginning to be a hindrance rather than a help and a club that promotes shot shaping might be a better option. Maybe some P7MB’s might be the ticket..if they release a ‘21 version I might be in trouble!

    I got the original p790s right after they first came out.
    I know this is cheesy AF, but I still get as excited to hit them as I did when I got them.
    My handicap hovers between 0.5-1.4ish, and these irons do everything I need them to do. I think they are the only clubs in my bag (and quite possibly the only clubs I’ve ever owned) where I’ve never considered switching to something new or different.

    Recently bought these and they are easily the best irons I've ever owned or played. I'm a 10 handicap but these could easily be played by anyone 10 strokes on either side of that. They look amazing, feel great and are easy to hit out of a variety of lies.

    A note on the brushed chrome: It's less expensive than polished, so it seems like a natural move by manufacturers as they try and find ways to improve the club, while minimizing cost.

      @@justinrowe2715 I’ve never compared the p790s so hard to say but looking at the video this years model look more similar to p770s then previous models.. p770s are just have a slightly blade length with less offset and a thinner topline and I believe the lofts are weaker then p790s .. you could definitely combo the two sets! You might had to adjust the lofts where your combo starts but they definitely look good together now!

    Taylormade is on a run of making some great irons wow. I brought up the distance inconsistency issue to the taylormade rep when I got fit for my p770's and he said the p790 distance inconsistency is due to the player not the iron. Those who complain that they'll randomly smoke one aren't consistent ball strikers and at that moment caught one off the middle rather than hitting it off the toe or off the heel.

    Speaking as someone who dropped 10 shots/round this year, the biggest factor has been that I’m not spraying the ball everywhere. I have a set of mizuno jpx825 irons, and while they look chunky and they’re old, I can keep the ball in front of me. I don’t care if my clubs are cross-eyed and drooling on the floor. I’ll take a poor looking iron over a beautiful bladed iron every time if I know I can keep the ball in front of me.
