I really don't know much about ballet. But seeing other performances of Onegin, I simply don't get the same i see here. She moves with so much fluidity and gives a full sense of dancing to the music, while others I saw you could see a lack of conection in between moves. She is like an elastic rubber band, that bounces and rebounds, and uses it all to imbue the drama, combined with her gestures and dramatic flare. It's like a complete sense of using technique to bring emotion. So full of real drama, she is really living the character. Astonishing. And the music of Onegin is so moving, such beauty and dramatic tension to it
I remember when she defected the the BBC gave her a documentary programme. When I saw her dance, the movement of her body the the steadies of her movement, the soul of her I was moved behind words. I loved to watch Fred Astaire, Cyd Charisse and Rita Hayworth. But I knew nothing of ballet aside from Nureyev and Fonteyn. Natalia just blew me away. Jxxx
That really was an incredible performance. Usually these days we're obsessed with how well the body is performing, what do the feet look like, did a particular step go well. But here you are allowed to become completely involved with the story. For people that know and at least partially understand technique and the like its easy to get caught up in that and ignore the story. But that doesn't happen with Makarova here. She could have been performing in a Shakespearean play and not been more clearly telling a story. Just incredible. God bless good ole' yt for our being able to witness such a thing. Thanks so much for the upload.
I know she is extremely religious. Her name literally means "Christmas Day." She was quoted as saying, "I feel as if God is guiding me." So she's taking her son around town, showing him the sights of her childhood home... Her native Russian roots.
