  • For the first time since her retirement, Guillem gives such an interview at her home, inviting Daniil Simkin to chat amongst olive trees, pastures, and her pets. She talks about her childhood, her relationship with Nureyev, and her experiences at the Paris Opera Ballet. She discusses her state of mind during her career and her current lifestyle.
Sylvie Guillem is one of the most acclaimed dancers in the history of the dance world. With her flexible and strong body, beautiful legs, and rich expressive power, she transformed the image of conventional female dancers. She revolutionized classical ballet, pioneering a new model of classical ballerina. At a time when contemporary and modern dance was not associated with classical ballet dancers, she took on new works one after another and became the multi-talented dancer as we know her today.

Sylvie has always demonstrated the strength of conviction and passion to this very day. It's amazing how much of that exact same passion she now throws into her _"garden"_ and her animal care. This is a very honest and introspective look Sylvie has given us into her life - what an amazing gift she has given us all.

I read a comment from a man who is really respected in the dance world who said that the ballet dancers at the pinnacle can really only be compared to others of their time. I thought about that a lot until I came to the conclusion that I didn’t agree….there are dancers (as there are musicians) who make such an impact they are timeless, and Sylvie Guillem is one of those dancers, Nureyev is one of those dancers, and there are many others I can think of.

Terrific and insightful interview Danil--thank you! I had the privilege to be on stage with Sylvie in Swan Lake as an extra in 1990 at the Kennedy Center (with English Royal Ballet). Her focus was marvelous and the reverence she had for the art and the work was clear. Once she got on stage, it was as though she was set free--she transcended the role, choreography, technique, and her person--it was mystical!

Sylvie was a perfectionist as are most prema ballerinas, if you're not your not in dance for the love of it. She also had an incredible work ethic and creative, which gave us the most imaginative performances. I danced from 6 years old to 46 yrs and loved every minute of it. I love Sylvie in that she fought for her unique style of dance and wouldn't dance how she was told to dance but let her drive to dance her own way. She was a mentor for me and alot of younger ballerinas be unique and creative in our own style od dance. Alot of us younger ballerinas followed her courageous and distinctive style of dance, it's then that you reach your peak of your own style and creativity and you maintain the love of ballet, especially contemporary dance. Merci Sylvie for your leadership. ❤❤

Je peux vous dire toutes les variations avec lesquelles vous avez participe! Personne n'a ri, vraiment ! I a gagne médaille d'or de Varna. Inoubliable!

Aside from being the most gifted ballerina of her generation, both in classical and contemporary works as well as a choreographer, she's a strong emotional woman, and activist and has a wonderful sense of humor. I've seen her dance and it was truly magical beyong words. A unique & incredibly gifted ballerina who worked very hard to become so successful as a dancer. You don't get to the top without hard work and love of dance. 11:37

I cried and thanked God after hearing this testimony. It was a reminder of my life’s purpose. We each have one precious life to live. God has given us a part in order to please Him. He is the most noble thought of man. Every decision we make affects not only ourselves but others. I appreciate what Silvie said about her perspective even if she is not saved (yet).
Have a sense of urgency about your mission! And especially the Christian who has the truth about eternal life paid for by the sinless blood of Christ on the cross at Calvary. The Christian who knows the world will burn up one day and those who are saved will be hid in Christ. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.
I used to use his name as a cuss word, but then he saved my soul after I sought him with all my heart. Now I have been born again! This is the spiritual birth. “For whosever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” Romans 10:13 King James Holy Bible

Un mythe vivant. Il y a un avant et un après Sylvie Guillem. Toutes les danseuses ont voulu l'imiter mais elle restera unique et inégalée.

✨🌟💛Where are all of videos of Sylvie Guillem’s dancing at? Who owns them and why do they still want to hold onto them? How do we get them released? 💛🌟✨

Listening to Sylvie on why she left Paris Opera is understandable that you well pressured when people above you wants to decide. It seems to happen everywhere and that is how companies looses such a talented dancers.

One well put together body, soul and spirit and mind working in unison to every notr of the music. She must have given Royal ballet the shock of there religiously traditional stuffy lives.

La amo, da ex campionessa di ginnastica ritmica capisco perfettamente la sua dedizione e rispetto...nella performance in Giappone sembrava posseduta...dopo di lei nessun bolero
