No one is a bigger Pitney fan than ME ... however, Gene would have heard this version and I'm sure he smiled or maybe got a bit worried lol Johnny nailed this to the wall, keeping it traditional but adding his own special nuance. EXQUISITE !!!
Pitney had a very different delivery style with his voice. Not really any comparison, while both are great.

@@wendystewart1867 Absolutely. When you hear Gene you KNOW it's Gene. He's my favorite solo tenor of all time. Did you ever see videos on YT from his Italy tour back in the mid 60's? He had no trouble singing in Italian and his stage presence was different from what we were used to seeing. It was like he let loose. lol He was having the time of his life and it shows. :o)

Great singer from a great and legendary group. The show made them more popular but it didn't do them justice as a group. It made them look like goof balls not a tight group

What a Voice!!! What year was this recorded? It sounds much younger than the 2015 recordings, unless Johnny's voice suddenly came back in the recording studio that day. It is smooth as silk here!
this was discovered on some very old tapes recorded ion the 60's. When his first wife (Benedetta) died a few years ago, she had been refusing to turn over all Johnnys stuff....and he had it finally returned after she passed. This is where this song and many others came from. They were sitting a box in storage for 30 years
