- This 1979 Chevrolet promotional film, titled " 1979 Chevrolet / Ford Pickup Comparison ", was sent to the Chevrolet car dealerships to be used as an in-house Sales and customer training film. The film highlights technical aspects and features of the new model year. If you look up a different film I posted, titled "1974 Chevy Selling Monte Carlo ", you can see a rare glimpse of the film cartridge viewer that was used at the dealership where the customers and personnel were to view these films. The machine was made by Technicolor and called the " Chevrolet Mini Theater System "
This film came from my personal collection. This film was not downloaded from any website and is not reused content. This restoration is my work. The restoration process started with removing the super8 film from the Technicolor Cartridge. After removal the film was cleaned, repaired, and spooled onto a standard film reel. Next the scanning to digital process was performed on the Lasergraphics Scanstation motion picture film scanner in 2k resolution. This film was very red without almost no color left. The extensive color correction was performed in Davinci Resolve. Finally, the film was converted to MP4 format for uploading to TH-cam.
That’s one beautiful two tone green / white Chevy!
That Ford Twin I Beam suspension was the bane of many an alignment shop!
This is why my daily driver was built before I was born
One thing my father didn’t like about his 70’s Ford crewcab was the rear door lock plungers were located at the back of the doors. Non power of course so you had to stretch way out to try and reach them to unlock the rear doors. Chev put their rear door lock plungers on crewcabs and Suburbans at the front of the door so you could easily reach them. Just a little thing but it made a difference.
Well on the single cabs they are still kinda inconvenient, speaking from experience lol
I would have either one of these classics. I prefer the Ford but the Chevy is equally fine. They dam sure are built to last, both of them, even the 70s Dodge .
Perfectly said man! I know those three are the main kings of American badassery, but I gotta give a shoutout to Internationals of the era! 👌🏼
Dodge wasn't any good until they got with Cummins. They almost went out of the truck business because of it.
Notice the placement of the fuel tank or tanks in the squatebody GM pickup trucks. It is between the outer frame rail and the pickup bed body. This led to far more fatal accidents, including fires, than the Ford Pinto.
However, NBC News was caught falsifying a news story using an incendiary device on a Chevy truck.
I never had a truck ftom this time but I would have preferred the Ford. Ford V8s were bulletproof and even the 300 6 cylinder was a great engine.
I would take either of these trucks over a 2023 model.
The 300 got even better after it went to Multiport EFI for 1987.
If you've never had a pickup from this era then you talking out of your ass now aren't you.
The Chevy of that time period was a far superior truck especially with the 350. Had them both
@@MisterMikeTexas I will take the 300 over almost every engine and I am a GM guy... sooo good
I'm a Chevy guy, but all the things that he talked about just seemed like more stuff to break. Plus the ford staight 6 was a lightyear better than the Chevy staight 6.
I agree the 250 head was prone to cracking, and the valves seem to have more than their share of problems, not to mention the 2 barrel carburetor. The 300 Ford six seemed to hold up better, overall.
I'd say the 292 Chevy six was just as good as the Ford 300. It also was a 7 main bearing design.
@@edwardpate6128 With out saying I am full of crap, the 292 is a decent engine, but they are not a fan of high rpm in my experience, they were always a little hard on fuel, but the have great torque at low RPM,and the early ones with the steel cranks are the ones to have, and they are a great truck engine.
The 300 6 was a bit more comfortable with higher RPM,a little easier on fuel ,and a little smoother running.Yes you are right they are both seven main bearing engines and if the 292 Chevy is driven as designed they last, over reved,or constantly high RPM in particular with cast cranks they normally don't.
These look really good for super 8MM
The Chevy was a good truck, but the hood would bend up in the middle.
Improper hood closure, and poor hinge maintenance.
The chevy were bad to rust out in the 1970's
Didn’t mention a thing about the fuel tanks that were installed outside of the frame on the Chevy which became a fireball in minor collisions which killed many people.
Not really, that was highly overhyped.
Ford trucks have always been better trucks best selling too
Ford was so much better.hoods didn't fold in half and the frame didn't break at the steering box .
I don't remember frames on Chevys breaking at the steering box, but my parents had the trucks they owned oil sprayed yearly.
Bs they weren't better the Ford's broke down more often than Chevy I've owned both and I'd buy and drive a Chevy Chevy anyday before a ford .
Never once seen the frame break at the steering box on one of these and I drove them daily from the time I was 19 or 20 until my late 30's.
Not the Chevy's but I know 2 different guys that have had it happen to they're Ford's so how's that for junk .
@@jsd795 Then your not paying attention,it was a chronic problem on 4x4 Chevies with power steering, and they would crack right where the gear box mounted on the frame holes, and it seemed more common on the 73,and newer GM trucks.
Chevy really made sure to do whatever it takes to squander their market lead
This is a FACT!!! You will NEVER see the days again of this type American made vehicles! I’m
Just glad I’m old enough to remember when the world 🌎 was actually a great place to live!!!. It’s a cesspool now and only about to get worse!!!. It’s MOMENTS away from being over!!! Sit back and hold on for the bumpy ride!!! …. And oh yeah… #FJB
2 years before that, Ford F-series became the best selling fullsize pickups & have been ever since.
McDonald's has sold billions of burgers. Doesn't mean they are the best.
Ford has always been the best built pickups handsdown
Maybe so but I see a whole lot more old chevys than old fords driving around today. Popular doesn't mean superior. The masses are stupid and make dumb decisions.
@@toddbob55 Nah. Fords always been 5 to 6 years behind GM with dodge trailing 3 or 4 years behind ford. Gm had the big bucks now don;t forget Chevy and GMC sales combined beat ford. Since GMC and Chevy are the same truck.
@@toddbob55Ford fanboi, huh? If you want to watch Ford promotional videos, that channel is just down the hall. Your in the wrong room.
I love Chev but buddy just sold me a Ford... WTF...
Me gustan las dos camionetas
More Chevys on the road waiting to be towed 😂 honestly tho love them both and would take either one of them over a new pile of shit that both companies are building now!
I still think Ford was better in the 70's
Seems like Ford has always taken pride in designing their vehicles to be fixed at a dealership. The old chevy trucks offered alot for the time
Haha
At Brazil, the Ford F-1000 is very stronger than Chevy C20.
the ford was designed to be beat up. the chevy suspension was better for smoother paved roads that you can drive 80mph on
@@theemulsionalchemist5688 but is not the realitty in Brazil. On Chevolet C20 the suspension pivot tends to break, as well as on Veraneio and Opala. This doesn't happen with the F1000. Maybe, the F-1000 may have other types of defects.
No. It's not.
Lab coat and tie in the desert; like a nerd boss
Those fords had them all beat in looks
This film convinced me to buy a ‘79 ford pick-up lol
Good video. The Ford engine bay does look like someone threw up in there
Chevy 🫡 ♥️♥️
3:03 What hapened to chevy, my 2021 Silverado the front suspension moves like the Ford with twin I beam. 45 yers later, Chevy's suspension is not what hye advertised in this commercial.
Twin I beam was a superior design.
I'll take a Dodge lol
Chevy wins here
I have had both GM and Ford cars and trucks over the years since 1974 and have had better luck with GM.
44 years and counting. Chevy still doesn’t get it!
Lol
So true lmao
What don't they get?
I owed both Chevy and Ford in multiple weight classes... They are both excellent in class 2-7
Still see those square box C10s around
The F-150 351 M 400 was absolute junk.
Ford was better hands down ,any one who thinks different has a extra chromosome
Friends don't let friends drive Fords!
Nah
I don’t see how anyone ever bought fords then or now 😂
I still see plenty of Ford trucks from the 90s on the road. Including Rangers, and I've had two Rangers.
Ford F-series have been the best selling fullsize pickups for 46 straight years now.
I hate Ford's, the suspension systems are a joke, the engine is pitiful, the frames are like wet noodles.. it would appear that 70% of the people who commented on this are salty ford fanboys lol
@@KevinRichards-rk3gpford is junk. Just cuz they sold more doesn't make them better in any way 😂
@@MisterMikeTexas my favorite Ford F-series generation are the aeronoses which are those ones produced from 1992 - 1997. The F-150s & Broncos were discontinued in 1996 on them. My second favorite generation on F-series pickups are the bullnoses which were produced from 1980 - 1986.
Fords look better
Chevy and GMC Trucks combined sells more than ford. Chevy and GMC are identical trucks under one Company. Ford has no such help. Well why doesnt ford pick GMC to compare to? They'd be even better off. Ford vs GM trucks isnt and hasnt sold shit....lmao
Ford cried that Chevrolet was selling more vehicles than Ford so government broke Chevy up in court that's why you have GMC
No, they did not.
Ford has the truck PERFECTED far superior to chevy always has been….PERIOD.
That actually isn't accurate
Man, they’re both amazing trucks! I prefer the looks and design of Fords more, especially from the early 50s to the 80s, but I got a HUGE appreciation and love for bow ties... even Dodges of the era lol. I mean I’m a simple man, sure they all got their quirks, but they bleed red, white and blue, and with enough love and respect they’ll both last for more years to come and have their own charms always turning heads! Only the old school though. Today’s stuff, even foreign, bore the heck out of me!
