Great first reaction. Very respectful to wait for the end, many reactors just cut it off. It doesn't really matter w/ this performance, but sometimes it does. Anyhow, welcome to The One!

Good one to start with, the song starts with pushing your head(genre-wise) into various directions, and then its easier to enjoy it all, without wondering "what is this, what is that". Babymetal does many things you didnt expect to happen..glad to see you enjoyed it

Nice! Welcome to Babymetal, your buddy did you a solid introducing you to them!
They are an international powerhouse and 13 year veterans of the industry, who started in 2010 at 12 and 11 years old, with 9 years of world tours, 60+ songs, and 4 albums under their belts.
This concert (Legend 1997) was one hell of a sweet 16th birthday party for lead Su-metal, who was born in 1997 lol.
Kami band in Japanese corpse paint to represent “spirits” of heavy metal sent by the “FOX GOD” of metal to aid Babymetal in their -world domination- quest to spread metal and J-pop fusion to the world. 🤣
    Look forward to more Babymetal!

Great first reaction and welcome to the BABYMETAL Foxhole.🦊 You already have a couple of potted histories explaining who they are, how, where and when they started etc, so I won't repeat everything - you have enough to read ... I will give you a bit more to read though (sorry).
'Headbanger' is about a girl going to her first concert on her 15th birthday, but 15 is significant in Japan as compulsory education also ends, so the girls is realising life will never be the same. She is etching this special night into her heart so she will never forget.
BABYMETAL are genuinely original and unique. It confuses people. They have fused elements from different genres that surely wouldn't mix - and they made it work. You won't have heard anything quite like them - and they have brought choreographed dance to metal ... but not as you may know it, their choreo serves two very real purposes - it helps with interpreting the meaning of a lyric or song (very handy for those of us who speak no Japanese) and it is designed to include and involve the crowd ... and they are black belts of crowd control and engagement ... as you could see with this whole crowd (about 8 or 9000 at this one) jumping and pumping their fists with them.
They don't follow the same format of virtually every band in the last 50-60 years, they do things their own way and as for their music - again unlike virtually every other band where you can stick them in a convenient box (x band will play power metal, y band is thrash, z band is hard rock, w band is Prog etc) - BABYMETAL do them all and they will also throw in some completely unrelated style or musical genre with the metal when you least expect it.
They have nearly 70 songs now, each one different to the last, no fillers. You may not like a song if perhaps it is too far along towards the pop end of their sliding scale - no problem, try another song and the chances are you'll love it. You already have some good suggestions in the comments - the official videos are all good and worth seeing but BABYMETAL are a live performance act, live is where you will see and hear them at their best.

Welcome to the Foxhole and BabyMetal journey.🦊🤘🔥
Nice reaction, I'm glad you got this suggestion, one of things you gotta know is that live performance is when they always really shine, you won't get the blaster sound of the live band in the studio album, not even the same musicians, some tracks are nice either way but the core way to experience this, is at live concerts, they bring the best live shows with top notch production, but sometimes you'll get better experience watching some of their official MV, not always of course, some of those are "Megitsune", "Iine!" and "Doki Doki Morning", maybe "Karate" too.
BabyMetal is a Japanese metal dance unit created in 2010 under another Jpop/Jrock group called Sakura Gakuin, they had 11 and 12 years old when started this and become independent after 2013, they created their own genre called kawaii-metal (kawaii means cute) mixing Jpop with metal sound and different subgenres along with many more rhythms. The name is a reference to a new genre and not related to their ages or "baby" faces, is a pun intended play words with "heavy-metal" which sounds similar to "baby-metal".
    They are:
    *SuMetal* lead vocalist, now 26.
*MoaMetal* scream and dance, now 24.
*YuiMetal* scream and dance, former member since 2018.
*MomoMetal* scream and dance, she's 20 and is the new official member since April 1st recently.
    None of them are related.
After 2018 you'll see backup dancers performing along with them but none of them are official members, they don't sing, only dance, but that status change recently like i said.
    About this song:
It was part of the Babyklok Tour in the US and later at the Europe & UK Tour already finished, everyone love this song and were having a blast with the girls headbanging real hard in the middle section instead of the usual bowing down on their knees or having fun with the cryo smoke gun.
Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!! is one of BM fans favorite and got special meaning too. Song is about a 15 years old girl celebrating her birthday going to her first live concert, probably metal, while having melancholy for leaving her childhood behind.
Isn't about any of our girls but they embraced this song like it was made for them, you'll find many special versions of this, even when they celebrate their 20th Birthday.
15 is an important coming of age for Japanese girls, 20 is another important date.
This was at Legend 1997 (that's the title of this live concert referring to SuMetal birthyear) in 2013 celebrating SuMetal 16th Birthday, and the whole concert was special, if you want to know the rest of the songs finishing this, those are:
    - "Akatsuki" Unfinished Version, a beautiful SuMetal solo version with only a piano behind, the original song is a power/speed metal balad
    - "Babymetal Death", be ready for this insane ending,
The live concert and also this song got plenty of tributes to the greatest metal bands, like Metallica and X-Japan, specially Yoshiki, the gong at the end is one of those, you'll find more and plenty of this to add to their lore. The statue behind is SuMetal resemblance and is a tribute to Metallica's Lady Justice.
The official MV is also creepy for some fans, I guess the organ gave that effect, you'll also see the neckbrace there for the first time which is a tribute to Yoshiki from X-Japan.
Another thing that you don't see so much here in their live performance is, when YuiMetal and MoaMetal are having fun with cryo or smoke gun, the choreography on this part is with them down on their knees and doing the "dogeza hedoban" which is like bowing down back and forth summoning the metal spirit represented by the neckbrace while SuMetal is standing with the mic rise up and her relentless death stare, that's another moment we called -NotACult-
The Kami Band here are insane set of elite musicians who were send to help with the metal sound, "kami" means roughly "god", they're wearing burial white robes and corpse face paint to represent those spiritual entities.
They rotate so probably you won't see some of them in all live concerts (especially the guitarrists).
    They are:
    - Míkio Fujioka, god of guitar, a beloved member, sadly he passed away in 2018. (R.I.P.), he's the one doing that sick solo.
    - Leda Cygnus, god of guitar, he's the only Kami Band member who's credited as a session musician when recording some albums tracks.
    - BOH, god of bass, he's the bald one and not only got amazing talent but her fun way to enjoy reminds me Flea from RHCP. You can see at the end (when SuMetal is crawling upstairs) his head got written "Happy Birthday".
    - Hideki Aoyama,, god of drums, he comes from a family of expert drummers, and his father is very famous in Japan music scene.
During recent World Tour they got another complete different set of musicians, we called them Western Kami Band, they've been playing with them since 2019, so the Kami Band musicians aren't official members and the girls are the only front women of this group.
    Next suggestion:
    - Road Of Resistance live in Japan official MV.
If YT allow me, I'm gonna leave in my next comment where to get safe clips to react since sometimes is very hard to watch some of their vids.
    See you next time!🦊🤘🔥

Here's the list of live performance clips usually safe to reacts without any filters so you won't need to rely on live compilations, there might be some exceptions:
      - Catch Me If You Can with Kami Band intro live at Budokan 2014.
      th-cam.com/video/ng8U_j0gpLI/w-d-xo.html
      - Akatsuki, live at Budokan 2014, this is a SuMetal solo.
      th-cam.com/video/g2372C5PJLM/w-d-xo.html
      - Megitsune, official MV is my first recommendation but is usually blocked if you don't put filters, so if you want live and safe to react, check it out Budokan 2014.
      th-cam.com/video/dU38CYkpBvI/w-d-xo.html
      - Akatsuki Unfinished Version, SuMetal solo again but with only a piano behind special performance at Legend 1997.
      th-cam.com/video/nwsinmxTxbo/w-d-xo.html
      - Babymetal Death, live at Legend 1997, this is the big finale, you're gonna blow your mind with this one.
      th-cam.com/video/jRc9dbgiBPI/w-d-xo.html
      - Ijime, Dame, Zettai live at Sonisphere Festival 2014, sometimes the official live MV isn't so friendly so you know what to do.
      th-cam.com/video/Ro-_cbfdrYE/w-d-xo.html
      - Rondo Of Nightmare, with Mischiefs Of Metal Gods Intro live at Budokan 2014, another SuMetal solo but way different than usual happy songs.
      th-cam.com/video/8WBDiLMNZcE/w-d-xo.html
      - Doki Doki Morning, official MV, their very first song and MV full of kawaiiness, usually is safe to react so try it, if you want a live performance, this is the first proshot version with the Kami Band live at Legend 1999 (YuiMetal and MoaMetal 14th birthday).
      th-cam.com/video/BSjv9OYtWZ0/w-d-xo.html
      - Uki Uki Midnight, this one is a follow up to Doki Doki Morning but way different sound, this is the PV, is super fun but the sound isn't so great but at least is live.
      th-cam.com/video/Yj-UQIlqsIQ/w-d-xo.html
If you want better sound with the Kami Band, then live at Budokan 2014 it is.
      th-cam.com/video/ESzY9dL613Q/w-d-xo.html
      - Onedari Daisakusen, live at Legend 1997, this is a Black Babymetal song, is a subgroup with only YuiMetal and MoaMetal.
      th-cam.com/video/1dT1ywYR5So/w-d-xo.html
      - Iine! again official MV hits way better but if you want live, here live at Budokan 2014.
      th-cam.com/video/5sCvYVNeD0w/w-d-xo.html
      - Karate live at Download Festival 2016, "kitsune6001" got this with a short interview intro.
      th-cam.com/video/FKOL6v3Md2c/w-d-xo.html
      - Road Of Resistance live in Japan official, this one is easily to find but be careful with the blocked by putting some filters just in case.
      - Kimi To Anime Ga Mitai - Answer For Animation With You, live at Budokan 2014, not sure if it's still safe, so try some filters, if is audio blocked try to mute or just cut the parts.
      th-cam.com/video/M8FKumvh-w8/w-d-xo.html
Here's a song you can find at Babymetal Reactor Resource (BMRR), a helpful place to get watermarked logo clips of the original live version to curve the annoying algo.
      - GJ! live at Wembley Arena 2016, another Black Babymetal song.
      th-cam.com/video/Hg0Rylcg8F0/w-d-xo.html
This is BMRR short vid to follow instructions and get the spreadsheet with the full list.
      th-cam.com/video/q40VmTHSh4c/w-d-xo.html
And here's a BM guide (the long one).
      th-cam.com/video/gDne0xwniTg/w-d-xo.html
There's a more recent beginners guide at "Briaghh" called "So... What is BabyMetal?" is more short and with some fair update until this year unlike the other one.

Well, you’ve opened a can of worms! I don't think you could have found a better introduction to BABYMETAL.
BABYMETAL has been around for a bit over twelve years now (they started when their lead singer - known as Su-metal (Suzuka Nakamoto) - was about twelve, and the two "cheerleaders" (officially "scream and dance" (backing vocals)) - Moametal (Moa Kikuchi) and Yuimetal (Yui Mizuno) - were both around eleven. Unfortunately, Yui left the band in 2018 because of health concerns, and only earlier this year Momometal (Momoko Okazaki) was named a member of the group. They do not play instruments but are backed by the Kami Band - session musicians who are among the best that Japan (and the U.S.) has to offer.
BABYMETAL started a brand new genre of music ("kawaii metal" - cute metal), and they cannot be pigeon-holed - they are almost always thinking and moving outside box; they made listening to metal FUN! They have, to date, four studio albums, and have been on a number of world tours. It is common knowledge among their devoted fans (known as "The One") that BABYMETAL is best served live, but they do have several music videos that are real works of art. I suggest you go back to the beginning, and react to their first two music videos, "Doki Doki Morning" and "Iine!" (pronounced "E-nay"), both released in 2012. You’ll notice those are the first two on this list of recommended songs:
Doki Doki Morning (official music video)
    Iine! (official MV)
Gimme Chocolate!! (official MV or Legend 1997 Apocalypse version)
    Megitsune (official MV)
BABYMETAL Death (Legend 1997 Apocalypse version)
Onedari Daisakusen (Legend 1997 Apocalypse version)
Song 4 No Uta (Budokan Black Night 2014 version)
Uki Uki * Midnight (Budokan Black Night 2014 version)
Catch Me If You Can (Budokan Black Night 2014 version)
Ijime, Dame, Zettai (Live at Sonisphere 2014 version)
    Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!! (Legend 1997 Apocalypse version)
Road of Resistance (Legend 2015 New Year Fox Festival version)
    Karate (official MV)
Meta Taro (Five Fox Festival version)
    GJ! (Fox Festival 2017 version)
Sis Anger (Fox Festival 2017 version)
    Shanti Shanti Shanti (official MV)
    Pa Pa Ya!! (official MV)
    BxMxC (official MV)
    Metalizm (official MV)
    Metali!! (official MV)
I would include the links but, for some reason, TH-cam sometimes thinks I'm posting spam and will delete my comment. For the links, see the TH-cam playlist “BABYMETAL Top Twenty”; it is a mix of MV’s and live performances, is more or less in historical sequence, and could be considered a road map down the BABYMETAL foxhole. If nothing else, it can be used as a reference to find high quality versions of BABYMETAL songs without mucking about - if they are on the list. Anyway . . . .
Another recommendation (read "challenge"): react to an entire BABYMETAL concert. I suggest the one you just observed, "Legend 1997 Apocalypse" and/or "Budokan Black Night" (2014). There are playlists for both on the HEAD123456 TH-cam channel. Both concerts are, in a word, incredible.
Enjoy your trip down the foxhole! (You're in for a wild ride!!!)
Keep rockin' BABYMETAL!!! (Sorry about the wall!)

Nice reaction, thanks and welcome to BABYMETAL.
You will get a ton of information about them for sure, but what you really need to know is that they are incredibly good live (which you have just discovered) and very diverse musically as they don't hesitate on mixing any music genre with metal (any sub-genre). So, the best recommendation I can make is: always expect the unexpected. 😁
At this point I like to suggest something older and something newer so you can compare the two of them and see their evolution. So, here:
"Catch me if you can" (Live at Budokan Black Night 2014 with Kami Band intro): th-cam.com/video/YiAJeKgufMk/w-d-xo.html
"Divine Attack" (Live at BABYMETAL BEGINS - THE OTHER ONE - "CLEAR NIGHT" 2023): th-cam.com/video/INRPP78SvXs/w-d-xo.htmlsi=eZmH0_7EO_v38kcw

    👍 👍
BabyMetal began in 2010 there were Suzuka Nakamoto age 12 Moa Kikuchi and Yui Mizuno. Both Moa and Yui were 11 years old All three girls were friends and classmates who attended an idol group (Sakura Gakuin) founded in 2010 by Amuse Talent Agency for girls 10 to 15. Themed around school life (they attended regular school as well) the girls would learn and train at vocals, dancing, public speaking and etiquette, etc., graduate at age 15 and then move onto whatever entertainment path they chose or that suited their talents.
Key Kobayashi was a music producer for Amuse and heard Suzuka sing at age 9 and was impressed with her strong vocals and stage presence. Kobayashi was a fan of heavy metal but believed that the genre had become stale and tired (especially in Japan) with metal bands getting old Kobayashi believed the genre needed to be reborn (BabyMetal means the birth of a new metal genre). Kobayashi felt that Suzuka had the ability to front a metal band and that her vocals and presence could withstand the metal guitars and drums. The fusion of Jpop and Metal began. He placed Moa and Yui as backup singers/dancers and a phenomenon was about to result.
At first Amuse showed little interest and the girls had financing mainly from Kobayashi. They performed at strip malls and small venues using clothes borrowed from friends and family. No money for a real band they had friends dressed in homemade skeleton costumes pretending to play instruments to a backtrack. They became a sensation (these young ladies paid their dues). Amuse saw the potential and in 2012 hired the best session musicians Japan had to offer (The Kami Band) who tours with them today (now includes world class musicians from the USA for tours outside of Asia).
If you choose to explore more of BabyMetal I suggest reacting to LIVE performance videos as this is where they shine.
They have over 60 LIVE songs/performances and each one is different. They are fearless exploring many genres and have the respect of the legends of Metal such as Metallica, Slipknot, Rob Zombie, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Judas Priest and more.
Avoid Glastonbury LIVE performances as the sound production by the BBC (who was in charge of that festival did a terrible job - mics not turned on, incorrect volume levels, etc.)
Suggest reacting to these HQ Pro Shot videos of LIVE performances for a start.

Yui Mizuno left BabyMetal in 2018 due to health reasons and at their concert in Yokohama on April 1 it was announced that a permanent third member Momoko Okazaki (who is also a graduate of Sakura Gakuin and has been appearing with them LIVE since 2019 after Yui's departure) has officially become the third member.
Their new album in my opinion that released March 24 is amazing with so many different styles.
Good luck and hope to see you again.
