You are going to dominate this season. It’s going to make last year look like a warm up. I am still working out and trying to get stronger as I enter my 60th year. Cheers from Ottawa.
Dude, thank you for all the education on lifting. I have learned so much from just watching your videos. I've tried lifts in the gym I have never done before because of what I have learned from you.
I remember when I first deadlifted with a guy who was a former powerlifter. I cut my shin with that bar. I said, ¨Oh, I´m bleeding.¨ He said, ¨That means you´re doing it right. ¨
Blood is not a sign of ur being hard core its a sign your not prepaired... Use high socks or some clothing that prevents you from being the guy who bleeds out the platform people spent good money and time on to build...
@@Up2Me-h2z I guess Hafthor wasn't prepared when he did the 501 kgs deadlift, because his shins were all scraped up. Dude, it comes with the territory. The owner of the gym had no complaints and we kept working out.
This is why I come here, It's not that Mitch is strong, well...he is, but that's not what gives him the edge, his edge comes from his technique, I don't think I've ever heard a more lucid and knowledgeable breakdown of these exercises.
Love how you made an impression on eddie the beast. In a recent video of his he said you or thor would break his record in competition. As to last year at wsm he didn't even really know you.
In or out of competition means nothing though. Only in Eddie's mind. A lift is a lift. So long as you have an official strongman ref there to check everything like Magnus then it's legit.
Mitch all day. Favourite video was the sports psychology from the no stone unturned. I think everyone needs to watch it. I think it applies to all pro athletes with a massive fan base.
One bad thing about straps, is that strongman aren't required to grab the bar. So look at his bar placement in his hand. It doesn't even make contact with anything but the fingertips, essentially removing 2-3" more inches of ROM from the lift
2-3 inches is generous, but train to the equipment you're competing in right? You can also use straps and just not be as loose in the fingertips if you're not trying to cheat ROM
@@aronhegedus yeah I realize you can strap tighter to avoid cheating ROM. but I know for me it's definitely 3" from bar in palm vs last set of knuckles and fingertips. I think that they should only use versa grips that way they have to hold on to the bar completely
Small correction at 9:16: The wider you grip, the more you are targeting the horizontal fibres of the lat. The narrower you grip, the more you are targeting the vertical fibres of the lat.
Great vid on the ol deadlift suit. Been trying to find tips and tricks for the deadlift suit online, and not really finding much out there tbh. Just got my suit the other month and still breaking it in, but is frustrating to say the least. Would be epic if you could do a full run down of the suit, fit, how high on the legs, how tight it should be, getting down to the bar and all the tips you’ve learnt on the way. Would literally be the only proper deadlift suit vid I’m aware of and body helpful to allot of the new guys and girls getting used to a suit. Keep up the solid vids and look forward to seeing you are works!! 💪🏻💪🏻
thinner grip works more lats because the gives you a greater range of motion think a nautilus pull over machine, wider is more rear delts and upper back.
I'm not big on equipped lifting, but if it's allowed, of course you gotta go for it. Regardless, looking mighty strong there, sir. Can't wait to read the spreadsheets with Loz and Liz when World's happens. 😁
I’m from the old school of doing raw lifts. The stronger you get doing it raw, then the more you could do using a suit. But I’m liking the bigger comps now not allowing suits.
I'm not old-school at all, and equipped lifting baffles me. Like... why? Everyone would agree that using any other equipment to help lift the weight for you is so absurd that it would never be discussed, but deadlifts suits are just accepted practice. Why is this a thing?
Pole vaulting baffles me. Like... why? Everyone would agree that using any other equipment to help jump over a bar for you is so absurd that it would never be discussed, but poles are just accepted practice. Why is this a thing?
I have followed your steps to a better deadlift and have had great success. This is the question I have had for a while as a new suit was offered. I am now 52 and barely got 335lbs,,,,so don't think I need a suit. BUT I did switch my hand grip to one forward and one backward and now have a bigger lift..any idea why? I also think a suit would feel like lifting a tractor tire, WHILE IN a tractor tire.
It looks like it's the shaw strength/ evolution athletics roller bag, they were given to all the athletes at strongest man on earth last year. It's a great bag I have one as well fits 2 belts, sleeves, wraps, pre workout and soo much more no problem
Hey Mitch, regarding accessory work, why not do pullups instead? You're already capable of doing a few and you'd probably benefit more from those than pulldowns, no? Assuming you work your way up to sets of 10-12. When I was at your weight, it was my primary accessory for back and I got to about 17 and I never felt stronger.
I notised that Eddie and some of the other strongmen does that seated stance (hamstrings parallel to ground) before lifting in deadlift. Your starting position seems much more static. What do you think is the point in ”sitting” before lifting? Hamstring/glute activitation?
i have bone spurs in both heels, cause by plantar fasciitis. any advice on dealing with that? I've been rolling out my arches and calves. but its awful. esp when getting out of bed. And when you drink 3+ liters a day. I pee 3 times a night and hobble to the toilet.
What amazes me about strongman is the information that these athletes are willing to share while they are still competing. I’m not sure this is the same in other sports. I wonder if there are any training tips or techniques that Mitch keeps to himself-probably not.
I think we went over this when you posted the thousand pound deadlift video. All lifts should be done with as little equipment as absolutely possible, So that the numbers can be directly comparable over time! For example, in regards to the deadlift, the only piece of usable equipment should be chalk
So question is. Is a sumo deadlift raw with straps and belt more impressive than a conv one with suit?. in my opinion i think when u get to equipment as suit and bench shirts and wraps it starts to get a bit rediculous. would rather se someone do a raw sumo or raw conv in a strongman competition than to see all this assistive equipment
Id prefer no suit for deadlift when setting records. Straps i dont mind at all as i wanna see the true back strength, testing grip is in other exercises that purely test grip

Awesome content as always

Nashville is a blast, One of my favorite cities in the world! hope you enjoyed.
0:22 Same program that you used to deadlift 475lbs, thats a good lift!
I hope you know he means kgs 😅
you are the new brian shaw i respect you so much be blessed my friend
3:20 you ever worried about using too much energy getting the suit on?
7:45 There are probably only a handful of guys on earth who could have pulled that velcro apart like Mitchell does lmao
haha yeah, I do wonder whether it damages the velcro though...

Just hit a deadlift pr with no suit today.
You are as always very good in this job!
Got my cardio started with this vid very informative video 👏🏻👏🏻
Whether t'is nobler in the body to suffer the multiple plies of velcro and canvas, or take arms against the sea of suits and by opposing - ban them?
I’m almost done with the fanart of yours. You’ll love it. How can I send it to you?
Mail it using the nearest garbage can.

Mitch, how come no deadlift socks? Your shins are in shreds! ( I'm truly interested... Are you challenged in co psychology by refs to wear?)
Amen!
Moose for the win at WSM! Quick question, what gym bag do you use? I like the top open zipper I briefly saw in the intro. #WSM #LHBK

Getting into that deadlift suit is like getting into a pair of marks & spencers Bridget Jones giant knickers! 😂
Great video Mitch! Love all the value you provide.
I hope Mitch's ultimate goal with these videos is to educate his competition more so he actually has some good rivalries in the future 😂
I don't get why they allow suits. Should just keep it with straps only tbh
Looking good and ready
Great stuff! I'm not really looking forward to using a DL suit eventually lol
These lads will need to bring it to hang with u Mitch. Lookin strong partner
I remember a couple of years ago, that you would be abused in powerlifting, for wearing METAL gear. Still in my opinion, best deadlift suits.
If you had a month of dedicated training do you think that you could beat your 475kg Deadlift?
I notised that Eddie and some of the other strongmen does that seated stance (hamstrings parallel to ground) before lifting in deadlift. Your starting position seems much more static. What do you think is the point in ”sitting” before lifting? Hamstring/glute activitation?
Only straps, belt and maybe elbow / knee sleeves should be allowed.
i exclusively deadlift in a 3 peice suit and jacket.
If the rules allow one to use a suit it would be foolish not to. Obviously practice is a must to get the most out of it.
Have you been to Brian's gym? Would love to see that collaboration and you try the grip run challenge
Mitch can you adjust the difference of length in your legs with lift in one shoe or are you used to it? Obviously it doesnt restrict you.
Cooking the potential opposition 💪
I've heard A LOT of great things about the new deadlift suit from Kaos. I was wondering if you ever give thought to trying a new one?
What does one do if they max the machine, like I am sure he does, for lat pull down?
I always like Eddie Hall's approach. Dont use any extra help and lift raw to when you use the lifting aids you know that you can handle the weight.
Yeah and then you have no idea how to extract weight from your equipment, it’s flawed
Lift heavy and be kind 💪💪💪😊
I like to deadlift barefoot/socks. Would grippy socks from a trampoline park be a good option instead of shoes?
i have bone spurs in both heels, cause by plantar fasciitis. any advice on dealing with that? I've been rolling out my arches and calves. but its awful. esp when getting out of bed. And when you drink 3+ liters a day. I pee 3 times a night and hobble to the toilet.

How do you get fitted for a suit?
Comment for the algorithm, thanks for the video

Belt increases safety and makes lift more isolated. I always used a thick leather belt for heavy rdl. Not to cheat, just to protect the lower back.

I think the question should be.
Are you willing to do everything to win at all costs? Yes or No?
Maybe wear long socks like Thor to avoid scrapping your shins?

Everyone should try deadlifting in Water shoes nothing to them just a bit of rubber less than deadlift shoes and a good pair is 20 max
