Just since advise from a runner and lifter: try not to use a max cushion for squats, it’ll throw off your stability and cause injury. For lifting typically you need a flat sole so you can plant your feet correctly. I run in the Clifton 9’s, great shoe, just not fit lifting.
Thats a really good advice. I used to lift in running shoes, but switched to ones with flat soles and its a lot better. Shoes like vans, converse or flatter nikes work good for me
Honestly, whenever you squat or deadlift, you should probably just do it in your socks - It doesn't limit toe spread like Vans or Converse do, and it's free!
Nah man, that cant be true. What is it about the heartrate being 20 beats higher (on average?) in the faster runs? You gotta match intensity for a even comparison 😅
Hahaha I just rewatched after your comment. 142 v 163 ave heart rate. I imagine new running shoes are faster, also carbon plated running shoes are likely faster... But if you put in 15% more effort then you will definitely run faster! 😂
as a fellow average/newish distance runner, i can confidently say that i am able to run at a higher max effort for a sustained period of time when i pick the lighter/newer/better-fitting shoes in my rotation over my beat up, 300+ mile shoes. idk what it is exactly, but i think it has something to do with mobility or muscle memory or something, but as a fairly new runner, my stride/ability to exert myself often has just as much to do with the shoes i’m wearing as my rest/effort in the actual workout.
@@user-oc9tc2qo1q That's called motivation. This guy tried to fool us all, that's it. How can you run a half marathon with an average HR of 142? My HM PB is 1h20m at 169bpm and I'm 40 years old.
Love the video! But like the dude said be careful from squats with high/soft cushion. Low and hard soles are thw way to go. Barefoot is even better for squats 👍
Sorry but the heart rate gave you away the difference isn't as big as it seems. Normal old Hoka shoes time 2:14 pace 10:07 mile heart rate 142 Carbon Hoka Shoes run 1 1:49 pace heart Rate 162 Carbon Hoka Shoes run 2 1:52 pace heart Rate 163
I know you are faster and better runner than me, but i would suggest you do lower body strength exercises barefoot, running shoes are extremely unstable for heavy lifting. Hope you give it a try and keep up great work
well id say my 5km race i felt amazing afterwards almost as if i should have gone harder lol while after a 5km race in normal ones, just feel more of a grind
As a miler I just wanna put it out there that not just anyone can run a fast mile and that all disciplines of endurance running are extremely difficult to excel at, no hate here just saying if the mile is easy you’re probably not going all out
The real miracle is that he put 330 miles on Clifton 9s. Mine feel like flat mushy garbage and begin to bite into my ankles after like 150, 200 max. Shoes just are not made to last
Good try but the HR data gave it away. No way that you can run at your max with an average HR of 143 unless if you're very unfit and in your 70's. And there's also no way that the shoes will give you that much performance benefit even if you're a responder (not everyone runs faster with carbon plates shoes, studies say). Honestly, those carbon shoes are one of the slowest that you can buy.
I run in saucony endorphin pro 3s, they are carbon plated, and going plastic souled shoes to them, the difference is unparalleled. I think the decreased my pace per KM by at least five seconds - that’s liek going from a 5:28 mile to a 5:20 just from carbon shoes. With can extra one month of training I ran a 5:06 mile
1:49 is not average at all sir wow! From 2:14 that's a massive massive improvement just from shoes (assuming you didn't train for a long time in between the runs)
As another comment pointed out you ran the half marathon at 2 completely different effort. No shoe on earth is cutting 24mins off a half marathon

thank you, i appreciate that a lot! I did not know that!
Thats a really good advice. I used to lift in running shoes, but switched to ones with flat soles and its a lot better. Shoes like vans, converse or flatter nikes work good for me
flats 100% better for gym (unless you’re doing runs )
Honestly, whenever you squat or deadlift, you should probably just do it in your socks - It doesn't limit toe spread like Vans or Converse do, and it's free!
I thought exactly the same when I saw the squat
Note: you want shoes that are flat + wide toe box for lifting especially for stability
True. I will never understand why people use tall and cushioned running shoes for lifting, it is the worse that you can use.

Normal old Hoka shoes time 2:14 pace 10:07 mile heart rate 142
Carbon Hoka Shoes
run 1 1:49 pace heart Rate 162
Carbon Hoka Shoes
run 2 1:52 pace heart Rate 163
To suggest shoes can make a 25 minute difference is laughable
@natjohnstone1689 that's not what he said. He said you can't give a fair comparison if you don't give the same effort in the shoes
Love the Rocket x1 , wonderful show, I'm also ran cross-country races with it.. :-)
Bro Ross has been having a lot of nice running shoes like altra, brooks, hokas, and ASICS lately and it’s awesome
I know you are faster and better runner than me, but i would suggest you do lower body strength exercises barefoot, running shoes are extremely unstable for heavy lifting. Hope you give it a try and keep up great work
Thank you I started doing it barefoot I hope to see some good results I appreciate the tip!
Wait until you try the most popular carbon plated racers. 💪👍🔥

very good point!
YOU GOT THEM AT ROSS?!! GEEZ Im about to go to Ross :v
Ross is generally hit and miss with stuff like that. But... definitely worth a visit from time to time. You just never know sometimes. lol
Alphafly 2 , 7a quality le sakte hai?

The plate made you push harder and the Clifton’s keep you slow
Weight ?
Yeah brother, you should squat in Clifton’s😂
Me: just doing it with- but 2:22, haha
Yeah… you’re not dropping 20+ minutes off your time because of shoes…
Bruh this is the most anecdotal evidence I've ever seen

Why are you squatting in hokas?
what even is a carbon plated shoe? sounds like good marketihg
What size shoes do you wear? I didn’t think Cliftons and the Carbon X were that heavy!
He is weighing 2 shoes. Half that total to get the weight per shoe!
@@onlineo2263 ohhh I didn’t catch that he was weighing both shoes. Thank you!
Also buy trail shoes
They aren’t trail shoes
"anyone can run a fast mile" 🤡 sorry dawg

Don’t lift in running shoes

He was running harder you can ser hid heart rate old shoes 142 HF new shoes 162 HF
Carbon plated shoes are meant for roads, not trails. Glad you sped up, but I don't know about the scientific evidence here.
What absolute bs. 25 mintes faster these trash ass shoes are apparently 🤣🤣
