B57 and B58 are becoming legends within their production years...this did not happen since M54 and M57. I also had an off the reccord chat with a nice guy from BMW dealer service and he told me timing chain is no longer an issue on these generations. So 👍 BMW for both of them.
They legends till they new but now they starting to show dark side after six years, chains are not issue if they replaced in time on n57 same with b57,chains on those engines are thin single layer they just can’t last forever they wear and stretch.

I have a 2017 335d F31, also with manual seats :) and I love it to bits. It's difficult to describe that it doesn't feel amazingly fast (unless you do a full launch), but rather that it gets to whatever speed you need effortlessly. Even at 1200rpm this engine pulls. Even at 150Kph it'll push you in the seat. The luxury feel, the space in the back, the engine, gearbox and AWD, all with a decent fuel consumption... it's a combination that is very hard to match. For me there's nothing short of a performance model Tesla that I would replace it with.
have a 2020 g21 330d xdrive .it doesnt feel spectacular at first but how it pulls even above 200kph is incredible. for me its a perfect long distance car in germany, in only one year i did 72k km with this thing and i had zero problems so far and yeah .....manual seats of course

Don't do so many miles and downsized to a G21 M340i (via a Golf R). TBH I wonder whether I might have been happier with a diesel, though happy enough with the 40i.

This car still needs to come to South Africa! So does the M550d! We only get an X3 M40d. This is the perfect daily and an absolute long distance cruising beast! Effortless power with decent fuel consumption!

I got before w205 and w213 Mercedeses, both were manual seats, I feel that those Mercedes had got lower seating positions than my g20 with manual seats. I wonder is there any sitting position height difference between G20 with manual and automatic adjustable seat ones.
@@sliwka621 I really wish BMW would tone their fake engine sounds down. It's the most annoying part of my wife's 330i. Otherwise it is such a great car to drive. The real exhaust sound of the car is quite decent, too.
the manually adjustable seats: The option for electric memory seats is hell expensive and i didn't get it either, because all i ever do is put the lean a tiny bit up or down, everything else stays the same. You only need electric memory if you have multiple drivers
@@Nickbaldeagle02 with the automatic steering adjustment the 5 series has the fancy feature to move the wheel up and out of the way to ease access, that's a feature that has a very "premium" feel to it, however i agree not worth the extra weight.
I am forever grateful to BMW for refining the B57 it’s the best engine in the world, well for a middle class working man. I truly don’t need anything more than this engine in this car. The normal version, the limo is my dream and I am hoping this summer I will go and buy one. G20, 330D M sport will be enough for me, with a nice remap it also gets to 715 NM.

I heard the b57 and the b58 share the same closed-deck block, but I don’t know if this b57 has forged pistons like the s58 or cast pistons like the b58. I know for sure both have forged cranks and rods
The manual seats are probably due to BMW trying to save as many Semi Conductors as possible for production units. I drove the 2021 m340i Xdrive, the car was very impressive.
I'm driving the S4 TDI (2020, first one with 347PS + 48V Boost, also 700NM) and it shows 264Km/h on the display, which I hope would ammount to exactly 250Km/h. It's a fast car and reaches these speeds without any effort. It just keeps pushing and puhing, but IMHO the gearbox is just not agile enough. The ZF8 Speed auto in my previous F36 420d felt so much more agile... This one is going back at the end of the year and I'm looking forward to drive a BMW again... Aiming for a 545e before the new version is released with a presumably even bigger snout :D

I wholeheartedly agree that BMW does ZF tuning so much better. I've tried the RS4 B9, S4 B9, M4 Comp G82, 330i, 320i and 318i all from the same gen. It is quite clear that BMW paid much more attention to gearbox tuning than Audi has, and I am a massive Audi fan. The gearbox in the Audis jerk and clang, pulsating right after gear changes and it is so weird that it happens on a TC. No such nonsense on the BMWs, and I much prefer the ZF in the 'normal' BMWs compared to any DCT implementation they have like in the Ms. Mercedes has arguably the worst gearbox tuning amongst the germans with their TCs that also jerk like crazy. It is nearly impossible to drive an E53 in sports+ smoothly with the way it rocks about. The stupidly badly weighted throttle pedal does not help as well.

Same problem, currently I have X5 40i, works great, but it was 4000€ cheaper than 40d. In 3 series price is exactly the same, so I'm wondering if diesel wouldn't be a better option. For now-> 70% for 340d.
@@bartoszszarota7069 True. On used market, low miles 340d is even cheaper than 340i. I been driving diesel BMW 325d(300hp/610nm) for quite some time. And I definitely want to switch to petrol for the sound and driving pleasure. But the diesel torque and economy is so inviting.
IMO m340i has a more useful torque range - i.e. it can rev way higher before needing to shift up so the accelleration is better but I'm sure diesel beats it in the fuel economy department, especially at the optimal highway cruising speeds.
We only got the sedan BMWs here in Malaysia through official distributor. If you are looking for wagon, you'll need to buy from parellel importer and of course price is higher

I had exactly the same, dealer replaced the complete sunroof mechanism under warranty. Now I don’t have the problem anymore. Too bad you sold those machines
@@michelpen6426 I'm from Bulgaria and the dealers here told me that they cannot replace anything under warranty as its very hard to give a proof that the sunroof does a sound to the factory... So they basically tried it to solve it and of course it was without result..

Heb 7 maanden geleden een V6 diesel aangeschaft uit 2007. Nog nooit zo tevreden geweest. Gemiddeld verbruik is 6,5 liter per 100km, nog geen enkel probleem mee gehad en hij rijdt als een stoomtrein. Daar helpt die 560Nm aan koppel natuurlijk wel bij 😃.

Plus it saves weight by not having all the electric motors for the seats.
Do manual ones provide a higher drive position? I have manuals and feel like a bit high even the driver seat is set at the lowest position. :/

Plus it's extra weight with the seat motors. Same for the steering. It's no issue to pull a lever to set it.

Niets rijdt lekkerder dan een dikke Diesel
Heb 7 maanden geleden een V6 diesel aangeschaft uit 2007. Nog nooit zo tevreden geweest. Gemiddeld verbruik is 6,5 liter per 100km, nog geen enkel probleem mee gehad en hij rijdt als een stoomtrein. Daar helpt die 560Nm aan koppel natuurlijk wel bij 😃.
@@quintenr8855 Probeer een diesel maar eens 2dehands te verkopen binnen een paar jaar... Je zult nog aan mij denken dan :)
