@chillreview636 whatever you do we here for it big dawg...in my opinion this is just your best.. mainly cause we can tell you care for real man .. Happy Holidays
I think the Ern camping episode ALs Farm and Darius’ tank episode all deals with resolutions for all of the main characters as they sit with their own isolation
I’ll argue that Darius is a secondary character to Earn, but ONLY until the Season 2 finale. Something clicks with Earn when it comes to Darius in that conversation at the Passports office. Earn even name-checks Darius to his therapist in S4 as someone he feels like he can really trust.
Oh for sure Darius and Earn grow a strong bond. I wasn't saying that Darius and Earn don't have an important relationship, I was just saying that their connection is different than the other character's connection to Earn
This video and series was fantastic. Atlanta is my favorite show of all time and I think you broke it down in a very thorough and elegant manner. I look forward to seeing what else you make in the future brother. Thank you for these.
Al was just listening to more of Blueblood’s music, it was his last album that had the clues. Although it was a homage to DOOM, Donald is actually the artist to do something like this in real life. Earl too, probably.
Amazing video as always! Bro, the part about Darius is something I’ve been theorizing for a min. If you notice, Earn first starts distrusting Darius but at the end of the show he loves Darius and is the only person he actually undeniably trust. Like a show creator learning to trust his audience. Anyways, awesome episode, so sad it’s over but excited for what else you’re cooking
“My life’s like a movie, my eyes are like a Uzi, jacuzzi” I spit out my water when that part came on 🤣 the build up to that was hilarious in the show!!! 35:40
@@chillreview636also well done with this series! It was nice to almost re watch each episode and laugh at the best parts through your videos!!! Keep up the excellent work🫡
Just wanna say that you really gave this series the flowers it deserves, especially the way you analyzed Darius and the series finale Honestly similar to Atlanta itself, I’m sad that this video series is over but I feel like I have such a better grasp as to why it’s one of my favorite shows of all time also as an addendum, even though I respectfully disagree with your Van take, I really respect that you still stood your ground even after gettin cooked by the comments in the s3 vid lmao, it be how it be 😅 Either way, much love dude! o7
I always say that respectful disagreements are the best kind of disagreements 😂 But seriously, thanks for watching these videos. I'm just happy to see so many other people love this show like I do. Much love to you too homie!
A character like Darius is well needed if you ask me. You need a character to ground you especially in surrealist shows such as Atlanta. Darius operates in a way that clearly lets you know he knows more than you think he does. With that, the more you pay attention to him throughout the entire series, you can see his character represented in other shows like Avatar with uncle iroh it's those quirky, yet introspective characters that implore you to explore the world with a sense of absurdism and acceptance of the absurd / surreal
with that said @chillreview I beg to differ Darius is an airhead but rather someone who is aloof on purpose and acts as the buffer between the surreal and "real".
Another great Retrospective by the man chill review. I just wanna say your videos are very enjoyable, sometimes I even watch them two or three times! Keep on being great brother and happy holidays
Another great retrospective! I've been a big fan of your channel for a while. I've been following you since the dead man Wonderland video. Keep up the good work! Atlanta was such a great series 👏🏾. Being from Georgia, I definitely related to a lot of stuff in it.
The “fake D’Angelo” is Enoch King! He was my professor Guest at Spelman College when I took a class there. Very down to earth guy. I enjoyed working with him.
@ this actually has been after the show came out. I want to say a year after the show concluded, but he pretty much explain how it was such a cool experience. I didn’t get a chance to talk to him in depth because I only saw him three times throughout the semester but he is close contact with my actual Professor so it’s nothing for me to just hit him up.
I kinda like the slower s4 episodes like the camping and farm episode. I think van and earn camping does a great job showing them trying to make it work as a family and ultimately deciding this is how they want to live.
I also noticed not sure if its much of a connection but with the phrase 'the goof who sat by the door' if you go back to s3 e8 with al there's the scene of him wearing a goofy hat sitting by a door ( again don't know if there really is a connection or not just something I noticed)
Good catch! I realized that myself, but couldn't come up with a thought out reason for the connection. Maybe Donald Glover is just a big fan of Goofy lol
what a journey I had to rewatch the series again for the 3rd time, Thank You for making these retrospectives broski keep up the good work and could you rank the episodes as well if possible?
Idk why. But I believe this show will return one day. It feels like its possible for this type of show. Especially since the casts projects mostly flopped.
I know you said it wasn't gender specific, but Earn is barely around his child and got no smoke whatsoever from you 😅 Van's whole character unfortunately is based on her being a mom and Earn's baby mama so her solo episodes focus on her confronting that, especially her feelings of not having her own identity, so it's necessary for her to be away from Earn and Lottie in those moments. You're calling her a shit mom but her whole issue is that everything she does is viewed through the lense of her being a mom lol
In my 1st Atlanta Retrospective video I critiqued Earn chasing his pipe dream career as selfish, because Van and Lottie needed him to be present. But to Earn's credit Van herself called him a good father in the season 1 finale. He's overseas to make money for Lottie and Van, while Van is overseas to get away from Lottie. Vane was a great mother until she left lottie to live a new life in Europe. Regardless of her reasons for doing so, abandoning your child is inexcusable imo. Earn is nit a perfect parent, but what Van did is waaaaaay worse
I think she had to do that because at that point in time she almost killed her and Lottie in the car. So instead of traumatizing Lottie she chose to have a mid life crisis in Europe. Either way at the end of the day she did leave Lottie behind but in good hands.
Idk man, almost being the reason your daughter died in a car accident and then leaving her with your parents instead of taking responsibility for it and just being a better parent still feels like a weak move to me. Sure, her parents might be capable of raising Lottie, but that's still Van not being a good mother
@ I get that, but the whole trip and all of her actions weren’t planned out. They were on the spot. My point is that because it wasn’t purposeful/ in her right mind her leaving Lottie with her parents isn’t the worst thing she could’ve done. This might be a stretch vans character in the third season might represent how people especially in the back community. Do not seek help and practice self care.
I agree that her decision to start a new life wasn't planned from the beginning, but she still abandoned her child. The end result is the end result. Abandoning your child is not a good thing to do. Hopefully we can agree on that
Earn didn't do what Van did. Earn left Lottie to go over seas for work. It was temporary, and the point was to make money for Lottie. Van went to Europe to escape from Lottie and ultimately tried to start a new life without Lottie. Regardless of her reasons for doing so. That's waaaay worse than Earn in my opinion.
This season is prob tied with season 2 for me as my favorite season. Its not perfect but it def is a great sendoff that perfectly ended every characters story where there able to have that fairy tale ending that black people usually dont get(I mean look at the goofy documentary episode) I think this def stuck the landing and brought back the show after the mixed bag of season 3 Also for the final episode I heard that this could be a representation of how Darius was depressed, and the episode is about him choosing whether or not to take his own life. Him seeing Summer could represent him trying to remember a good time when he was as kid and her voice reminding him of those fun times, him seeing his old friend reminded him of the fun times he used to have in his early twenties and how despite the chaos he just enjoyed the thrill of it, and finally when he says hi to his brother and his brother says "you're not staying?" hes basically conflicting of whether or not of joining his brother as his family is gone with suicide being an option to see them again. I think he saw Judge Judy normal andit was him deciding to continue to live his life and the moments he shared with his friends was real. Besides that tho, I think this season was a great conclusion up there with Boondocks Season 3 as one of the best final seasons of tv
Damn... I never considered that possibility, but I definitely don't hate it. It's crazy how many ways you can interpret this show. Idk where I perosnally rank season 4 as whole compared to the others. They're all so good man lol
@chillreview636 it's not a 1 to one comparison, but SU lost a lot of support when Steven's mom Rose who was portrayed as a savior of earth from the diamonds, and had a lot of depth of shattering a diamond (pink diamond), but when the grand reveal was Rose was actually Pink Diamond who transformed into a Rose Quartz to hide on earth from her sisters, it killed the plot knowing that Rose was a complicated but character you can empathize with and root for, to a powerful diamond who essential started a war over her perceived death that killed 1000s of gems and colonized other planets all because Pink Diamond felt bored and bossed around by the other diamonds. Obviously extreme example, but Rose being a diamond all along connects to Van only in that it was two characters who took on entirely different identities in a new place to avoid reality. Super long explanation, but that's kind of how I saw it
21:34 only logical explanation I can think of is; baby girl not being able to be in the show as an actor. Why they would write the show the way they did.
Hey Chill review? I wanted to know if you liked or have peaked at a show called snowfall. It's a series that I just rewatched and think is dang near a masterpiece and I think someone as "Chill" as you would like to review or do a retrospective on it.
I watched the first season back in the day and really liked it. Completely stopped watching it when season 2 came out for some reason, but it's definitely on my list of shows to finish. Hopefully I can make a video out of it after
Whatever he was listening to in the car in the 1st episode of season 2 sounded a lot like speed metal to me. Maybe "industrial hip hop" and speed metal have a lot in common
She was with her grandmother, though you act like she left her kid at a bus stop. The point of having a mental breakdown is did you mentally break down and do things you wouldn’t normally do
She didn't start to lose touch with reality until she got to Europe. She made the decision to leave the US consciously. Yeah she left Lottie with her parents (without telling Earn) but once she got to Europe she literally tried to make a new life without her daughter. Whatever the reason, that's some deadbeat sh!t.
I can’t read 200+ comments but don’t you answer your own "question" about Van S3 when you say she in S4 finally has an identity of her own? Without the writers ditching Lottie we can’t have Van [euro]trip… in all the ways she does S3. Perhaps Mfrs focus way too much on Lottie as a character like she’s a real girl 🤥 and not a S3 plot problem that once out of the way gives the writers some options with Van*. *(insert here all the smoke re: black mothers on screen let alone irl need/deserve a break 😡lol… AND thanks ATLANTA for giving us the most ridiculous possible dramatization of one such "break" so far on screen 👏🏾 👏🏾… not that I personally enjoyed it much either btw …but I’m just sayin I do appreciate it - an attempt was made lol.) Now, you goin directly from the S3- I’m acting like AMELIE to S4 Van is maybe starting a career as an actor… I mean 🤷🏾♂️ - Liam Neesons… you’ve taken us there. And now, here I go - jumping back in to the review now showin 23:01 👍🏾
I don't think they ever mentioned the killer by name in Season 1. My interpretation was all the weird stalker stuff Al went through in season 1 was supposed to show his paranoia and what happens when you get a higher profile, but could be something else
I've never understood the point of Darius. I just rewatched S3E8 and his running gag definitely helps the idea that Darius represents the average black man.
My understanding of the hands would be the social nature of black people as a whole but the issue being capitalism is about the individual succeeding which is a heavy challenge as it address are do black people need to succeed alone or together
Earn went to Europe for work and always intended on coming back. Van went to Europe to find herself and ended up starting a new life without Lottie and with no plan to ever see her again.... That's the key difference for me.
Hahaha idk man, if you still think I'm anti-black after watching 4 hours of me talking about Atlanta and the black struggle... There probably isn't an explanation in the comment section that will change your mind.
@chillreview636 but you are anti black due to your own ignorance. You consistently forget yourself at all times because you fail to understand that this is our land and the entire world was in on coming over and making us like this. Your talking points get besides yourself once this is introduced, because your ignorance thinks we got here by ourselves, your half heartily telling us about black context without the biggest context of them all: we own canada to south america and them crackkas took our shit and then pretended to be us.
I don’t like Lakeith Stanfield. He made the show goofier than it needed to be. Glover was already weird. The whole show should have been like the Mike Vick, Bibby and Katt Williams episodes. It was stupids when they went to Helen, GA and overseas. Also it was very stupid when they did the MJ episode.
Man... I don't know if I could disagree with you more lol. I think Darius is a big part of what makes the show feel unique. And you might be the first person I ever heard say that the MJ episode wasn't great. But hey, everybody sees things differently. I respect your opinion
@ the show was better when it was grounded. The MJ episode should’ve been a scene. The Bibby episode was real and that’s what they chose to follow it up with? Never watched another episode after that.
Probably one of the best final seasons and endings I’ve watched in a show. We’re likely never gonna get a show like this again.
@stooopendous you right as hell brother. Nothing more than what you need like a perfect meal
100% agree. It's one of the most unique shows ever made, and the ending is something only Atlanta could create

The Goofy episode was peak television. Great season overall.

Just watched the other videos recently and this came right on time! Wondering if the "hint hint" was Donald Glover being in Mr. and Mrs. Smith?
Nah. Before he did that remake, he wrote a mini series called Swarm. That's what I was referring to.

Don’t give me that brotherrr shyyyyyt

Great video. How is Earn not held to the same standards when it comes to parenting?
Earn didn't do what Van did.
Earn left Lottie to go over seas for work. It was temporary, and the point was to make money for Lottie.
Van went to Europe to escape from Lottie and ultimately tried to start a new life without Lottie. Regardless of her reasons for doing so. That's waaaay worse than Earn in my opinion.

Darius and serious rhyme but can’t be used in the same sentence when it comes to this show 😂
She was with her grandmother, though you act like she left her kid at a bus stop.
And now, here I go - jumping back in to the review now showin 23:01 👍🏾
wasn’t the killer the guy mentioned the first season who asked about al
I don't think they ever mentioned the killer by name in Season 1. My interpretation was all the weird stalker stuff Al went through in season 1 was supposed to show his paranoia and what happens when you get a higher profile, but could be something else
I've never understood the point of Darius.
I just rewatched S3E8 and his running gag definitely helps the idea that Darius represents the average black man.
Which Running gag is that? From the New Jazz episode?
@@chillreview636 just him constantly waiting for Paper Boy to pick up the bill
My understanding of the hands would be the social nature of black people as a whole but the issue being capitalism is about the individual succeeding which is a heavy challenge as it address are do black people need to succeed alone or together
I like that theory. Why do you think the fake D'Angelo insinuated that Earn being pulled down is a good thing? Being closer to his people?
Ummmm that’s deep
THEY abandoned Lottie!! Earn left too and gave mixed signals
Earn went to Europe for work and always intended on coming back. Van went to Europe to find herself and ended up starting a new life without Lottie and with no plan to ever see her again.... That's the key difference for me.
You still have a lot of explaining to do on your last video we aint forget. Fire upon a deadeas
He pooped at his moms house remember he didn’t flush 😭😭😭😭
Hahahaha so you think everytime he had to go, he took a bus across town just to get to a toilet?? Idk man 😂😂
i find it funny how he ended this show is a similar way how he ended mr and ms smith
Now I gotta watch the new Mr. And Mrs. Smith lol
@ it’s really good it kept me hooked though out the whole season
Love your channel bro I sampled the last scene of ATL and made it into a lofi beat

Never watched another episode after that.
i stopped watching after the 2nd season...
Damn. You missed out on some great television
