I had a number of audience recordings of concerts and seem to remember at least one other that started with the encore (Into the White) and the set was in reverse-alphabetical order! I was at the last gig they played in Uk. It was at the Mean Fiddler in London and I was convinced at the time that the set was in alphabetical order of the first chord or song key. Don't quite me.on that. I interviewed Black Francis for my Pixies fanzine prior to the gig too.
Unbelievably good band! They're picking from only 2 albums and an EP, this setlist is 23 songs in alphabetical order and flows like they planned it that way. Full setlist: Bone Machine Cactus Caribou Crackity Jones Dead Debaser Gigantic Gouge Away Hey The Holiday Song I Bleed Isla de Encanta Levitate Me Mr Grieves Monkey Gone to Heaven Nimrod's Son River Euphrates Tame There Goes My Gun Vamos Wave of Mutilation Where Is My Mind?
Pixies literally saved my festival - after a failed attempt to meet half our party that came up later to give them their tickets and only messaging barrels (remember those!?) or radio Avalon to get messages out there, was trudging upset and dejected past the pyramid stage...when Bone Machine kicked off...I spun around on my heels and doubled back to watch what was one of the best surprise performances of the weekend and got my festival mojo back! I've been a mad Pixies fan ever since. This is a priceless recording IMO. Super hot weekend, people queuing for the shade under the trees...Thanks for sharing 😊
The little improvised melodic section at 31:56 Joey plays in the middle of his Vamos noise vamp here is the intro to Billy Squire’s Lonely is the Night. It sounded familiar and I guess only now did I figure it out.
Saw the Pixies many times when they were new in Boston. I'd say along with Mission Of Burma and The Cars they were most important and also, most important bands we exported.
Crazy how good they sounded live...wasnt there a video before LoudQuietLoud that had a compilation of some of their live shows and tour diary from the first era? I found one on here but it was only 30 min long...the one I remember had at least an hour or more...guess ill just have to dig through and watch the tubers tapes! thanks for this btw!!!
Only got there a year later, was amazing though. Heli landing near the front of the Pyramid during the Cure, seems like a flashback. Got Pixies at Reading tho so all's a ball
Kim had just turned 28, Joey had just turned 24, Black Francis was also 24 and David was 27.
They were just babies. Very precious babies!
I can’t help but giggling at the fact your calling a 28 year old a baby
was there.. glorious weekend
I was there. Drinking cider. Boiling hot day, no shade to hide. Pixies were brilliant.
Exactly the same experience. Loved their gig though.
Joey Santiago spoke with me in Dingwalls . We shared a beer. Dinosaur Jr were playing and he'd come lol
That's beautiful
Your bone's got a little machine
Same mate micro dots and great hash all weekend no police the best time had by all
Back when Glastonbury meant something. Pixies don’t look like they give a shit either way, which is what makes them so endearing, what a band.

Never did they think 35 years later it would be discussed on a comment thread.
It’s the pixies. They play both versions of Wave of Mutilation in the same gig

So focused, just the music, without any unnessecary shit. Great performance!

Jamie! Great to hear from you my friend. 💚
I was there! Seems as fresh now as it seemed then

LONELY IS THE NIGHT! 🤟🏼
I noticed that too

Frank black is just one of a kind
Kim and the band at the end of No 13 Baby is sublime

😅
Must be so deep to have 100,000 people sing your ballad with you. Wow
Anyone know who played before and after them?
Throwing Muses before, The Wonder Stuff after.
