Part 1: • Michael Jai White, Who...
    -----------------------------
In this clip, Michael Jai White reacts to Akon's controversial statement about Black people in the U.S. being held back by focusing on slavery. Michael admitted that he agrees with Akon's statement to a degree, and he went on to share his experiences visiting Africa. He went on to speak on Africa not being a "promiscuous culture," and women not being portrayed as "loose" because African women pride themselves on their chastity.

Black millionaires, billionaires, movie stars, lawyers, doctors, military Generals, even a freaking black president tells all of us that you can be whatever you want. No white person is holding us down it's all in your head.

Slavery still has a chokehold on black Americans. Very hard to just "get over it" when the consequence of it are still built into the infrastructure of what America is.
I'm African and we have a tendency to brush over the madness of our history, yeah, it's not working! I don't think it's good to obsess over it, either, but it does need to be addressed properly and with reparations.

BOUT TIME THOSE AFRICAN QUEENS AND KINGS THAT ROUNDED UP THEIR OWN PEOPLE BE HELD ACCOUNTIBLE TOO. .. TIRED OF ALL THE FINGER POINTING AT WHITE PPL . .. AND BLACK AMERICANS GOT SOME GROWING UP TO DO TO .. TURN OFF THE RAP MUSIC AND STOP LIVING LYRICS , START GETTING OUT YOUR CALCULATORS AND START FIGURING OUT HOW TO BECOME SUCCESSFUL , THERE ARE MANY DEFINITIONS OF SUCCESS AND I THINK A LARGE MAJORITY OF BLACK AMERICANS HAVE THE SAME DEFINITION. True true. Slavery doesn’t cause you to sag your pants, have sex with any female that will allow you to, shoot men that look exactly like you, and drop out of high school just to terrorize your community, ignorance does. But on the other hand people could argue that ignorance is a result of slavery and its lasting affects. If you place people in a shitty situation they’re probably going to act shitty so who’s really to blame that’s up for argument

White boys don’t sag their pants and when they do they’re just trying to emulate us. White dudes try to have sex but either they just don’t have as much game or when they do they use condoms and don’t make a whole bunch of damn kids. The average white guy doesn’t live with the mindset of shooting the next white man let’s be real. White boys go to school and finish because that’s what their parents want them to do. We were placed in a fucked up situation but a lot of the times we fuck it up even more we need to stop this blame game shit

      @Taggimit 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

@ Can you elaborate? I would love to know how sagging, procreating all over the place, and gang involvement correlates to slavery. At some point, we all have to take pride in ourselves. I'm from the south... direct descendent of slaves and share croppers. I'm 33, no children, business owner, credit at 790. Why? Because my parents, that are both from 8+kids homes wanted MORE for themselves and their children. Buying your kids Jordans and iPhone is instilling what in them? That material matters. People will spend $35K on a Honda with rims, Brazilian butt lifts, and pay for VIP at the club, but won't get student loans for their education. There's a a choice in the equation at some point.

If we were talking about something that lasted for a few days or weeks, it would be easy to move on and make a lesson from it. But slavery/segregation lasted for CENTURIES, legally we’ve only been free for 60-70 years but minorities didn’t start getting treated like equal citizens until like the 1980s. There has to be a correction this country has to make for us to truly move on.

"The more you value things out side of your control, the less control you have." It's the mentality we're speaking about here, not law. The victim mentality holds everyone back whether its race related or not, and is the most significant way by far to hamper your life potential. It's easier said than done because when the ego has latched on to this identity, letting go of it means death, so it does everything it can to keep the cycle going. That's why you have people arguing and defending their beliefs, and in the end, they are no better off. Maybe even more angry and upset. Then they turn to various highs to numb the pain through pleasure seeking activies like drugs, porn, sex, overeating, etc. Instead they should use this time to fully experience their emotions and look deeper, instead of suppressing them which just keeps the ego alive. You must learn to fully accept and let go. That is the only way out.

But compared to the struggle i not only have as you do. But I have to work 10 TIMES harder as a black man then you do as a white man.
      Hince "WHITE PRIVILEGE".
So no. It's not just that easy for black people to just "get over" slavery and work hard.
Your struggle and mine are NOT the same.
AKON'S struggle is not the same as black Americans. Akon is not from here! If things didn't work out for him in America. HE could go back to HOME to Africa.
Descendants of slavery don't have that same luxury. We was stolen from our homes that's no longer there anymore for us to return to.
So we do our best to get by and just try to LIVE. Yes, some black people do get lucky and achieve higher than most.
But the ones that don't. It's not because they aren't "working hard" . In most cases most black people would LOVE just to live a simple life free from bigotry, murderous cops, raciest white people and laws that are unfair and designed to keep us in poverty.

It's times like this that I am forced to ask, "how is this relevant to the Black community?" Like, letting go of something that continues to affect them today to focus on new things makes sense...to a point. However, we literally have nothing to attach ourselves to before that. Plenty of people have foundational and formative development periods that they can draw from to help form their future. Meanwhile, people from our communities ask us to "stop focusing on this because it holds us back." Well, I can only ask, "are you gonna help us succeed?" Because these two men are great and have made much...for themselves. Telling the average Black person to "go to Africa" ignores the fact that we lack capital to do so. It also ignores the fact that we have made the efforts to "do for self" and we see repeatedly how that turns out, bodies everywhere. And so most of us are too broke to do much else. It's like when Obama became president, it didn't do anything for Black people as a whole. So I have to ask the question, what is the alternative?
Though, my next question is: why are we paying Vlad to have Black people talk to/about Black people on his show?
