The real issue for people in the U.S. isn't slavery in my opinion. It is legal Jim Crow and segregation. I'm 64,my living parents are 87 and 91.I was born and raised in the U.S. south. All White people in the south at least 80 and older benefited from segregation. Segregation consisted of preferential treatment and benefits for Whites vs all people of color,no matter how qualified or well educated the people of color were.

There was a tone deafness to Akon's, otherwise logical, statement. He was saying "America's white government doesn't give a shit about you African Americans, you'll never get your reperations. Accept that as a fact!"... What he should have added was: and the reason why is because African Americans don't have any leverage! The ONLY reason why America gave reperations was because it was in their OWN interest to keep those ethnic groups satisfied, whether political, geographical, image, etc. And because these people were backed by either their own countries or because they were a strong collective. It Certainly was Not out of the goodness of the American governments heart! So what African Americans need to do is SET UP A CODE OF CONDUCT/CULTURE, to abide by and build a strong COLLECT and STRATEGIZE! BUY, BUILD, INVEST, LOBBY and start making LEVERAGE! Become powerful in your own rights and USE your power where you have it, such as LOCAL ELECTIONS! PULL EACH OTHER'S BOOTSTRAPS UP! STOP falling for the PANDERING, STOP accepting folks cause they can dance, sing, rap, or carry hot sauce in their purse and make them RESPECT YOUR CODE AND CULTURE! And in the meantime HOLD THESE MFKS ACCOUNTABLE, as you've been doing more and more!

The depiction of slavery in most films is the bare minimum of what they actually went through. They used slaves skin to make accessories like belts and shoes, put lynchings on post cards, sell black babies to alligators. The slave master would tie ropes to the arms and legs of a pregnant woman then attach the ropes to four horses; the person then ordering the horses to run away in four different directions till he pregnant woman’s body is split apart. After the unborn baby was dropped the floor, the master would then stomp it to death. Imagine fathers and mothers being forced to have sex with their kids. Please. It wasn’t just woman who raped by slaves owners, men too.

We seen how that works when they pander to to help other communities and associations so it’s not about what they can’t do but are willing to actually make an effort for. We too many times fall for imagery and charades of hope.

And it is not a debate in our generation but we could understand for my point of view context is different because the African Americans are those who went through that so it is normal that they fell it in this way and it is understandable . Me i have never been outside senegal. I am not interested now in going abroad because Africa is paradise we live happily even though we don't have much.
