    I’ve been thinking about doing a turbo kit for a while on my 2014 5.3 Silverado and after watching the video I have most information I need, is there any other changes that I might would have to do? I’m not really looking for mass power but rather a good update in power from stock so I’m not too sure if I just need the turbo kit or should look into a cam

    Love the build man! Im doing a 2017 Silverado L83 turbo build right now LT4 injectors and LT4 HPFP with a DW400 Lift pump assembly have the GPI drop in Piston and rods kit and the rings gapped for 15-20pounds hoping to get it going real soon! Bought my turbo kit from Spike Performance but seeing this video I wish I went with the On3 kit Spikes kit is not near this quality. Nonetheless this video gets me excited!

    I’m pushing 350whp with my l83 and thinking about this kit for awhile and I might buy this with cam and ported heads, highram Intake

    • @finishlinenoco
      @finishlinenoco  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Just the intake change and mild cam combined with this kit would be significant difference. If you are wanting to shift your powerband up and run higher RPMs, I would definitely recommend the heads and a spicy cam in that case.
      The stock ports on the heads are actually pretty good as/is when going for the stock redline. The turbo options with this kit are sized appropriately for the stock power band. Maintaining peak power at 4500 - 5500 and not having to twist it too high is one of the ways to keep things reliable.

  • @TheB16sedan
    @TheB16sedan 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    What did you have to wire? Did the on3 kit not come with everything?

    • @finishlinenoco
      @finishlinenoco  2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      We wired in a MAP sensor as a barometric pressure sensor. The On3 kit included a map sensor that was hooked to the manifold in place of the stock MAP for accurate measurement of boost pressure. The stock MAP sensor is only really good to atmospheric pressure and not much above that, so the stock MAP sensor was repurposed as a Baro sensor to get real-time atmospheric pressure measurements.
      This style of setup allows for fuel adjustments in varying conditions; for example when climbing a mountain pass the amount of fueling required will change with variation in altitude, and the ECU derives that changing altitude measurement from how much pressure there is in the air (the more altitude the thinner the air, the less fuel required, and the inverse of that is true when going lower in altitude)
      In many ECUs that do not have Baro correction in a Realtime fashion, they take a reading from the map sensor before starting the engine. Here in Colorado at a mile above sea level, we are typically around 84KPa atmospheric pressure. Down near sea level we typically see 100KPa atmospheric pressure. Climb up a mountain pass and get near tree line, at 10,000 feet the air pressure is closer to 70KPa.
      That means there is basically 2PSI pressure difference of air entering the manifold between mountain driving and driving around in Denver Colorado, and another roughly 2.3PSI pressure between here and Sea Level. Since we regularly drive into the Mountains here and undergo such radical changes in air pressure, Realtime Baro correction in my opinion is a must for anyone who lives in a place like Colorado.

    • @finishlinenoco
      @finishlinenoco  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We didn't have any check engine codes to deal with since we left the stock exhaust intact and put the O2 Sensors back in their correct locations. If running a single cat, you can put both downstream O2 sensors in the same pipe and avoid issues.
      The only other thing was adding the barometric pressure sensor and changing the MAP Sensor to a different one, but we simply adjust the calibration in the computer to match the sensor setup that we're using.
