Honestly it's been me trying to get more bionicle sets to both complete my collection and to review.... I lowkey got into an "argument" with a seller because they was over charging and they said they wasn't, then relisted the item for the price I wanted to give them after denying me and then me buying the sets from another seller

    Note on bricklink:
NEVER leave feedback until you are ABSOLUTELY satisfied with your order and sure it is as agreed. Always make communications with sellers prior to leaving feedback, as they have the ability to stop list you and have virtually no incentive to remediate mistakes after the fact. I've had a great time on the site with many wonderful people, but there are a few bad apples whose feedback is not properly representative of their business practices.

Yes, eBay rapidly became the worst way to buy Lego-about 15 years ago. I very occasionally find something that is a good deal, but unless you’re into buying bulk Lego to sort through and resell, eBay just isn’t a great option, at least in the US.

4:05 A war crime has been committed... Let us all not forget about those people trying to turn eBay into Bricklink selling one 5 cent piece for 3 bucks + shipping with over a thousand listings of other extremely common parts following the same pattern. Flippers (scalpers) selling rip-off brands as "official Lego" take the scum-bag award. When will scalpers realize NOT all minifigures are worth 20 bucks each? At this point I'm convinced you'll have to be a full on Discord mod to get actual good deals on eBay these days!

Bought it for $40 brought it home opened it up and it came with the old Gungan sub as well as some other random bits and characters from pod racer sets. But no complete tie advanced, only the wings. Your not wrong about that power miners set being hard to find. I've check bricklink relatively frequently checking most power miners sets just to search for deals and for some odd reason, there's been way less then there used to be for sale recently. And the thunder driller is way more expensive then it used to be.
Weird to see, especially since I've been collecting since 2009 some of the stuff lately around lego has been absolutely wild. Relatively off-putting after doing this for years.

So far I’ve only had good experiences buying Lego from eBay, but since I’m really paranoid, I only buy sealed sets and open them myself so I can be 100% certain they’re complete and in perfect shape. That said, I prefer to use more obscure sites and sources with less eyes and foot traffic to get older sets, since the prices tend to be more reasonable and they don’t get bought up as fast. That’s been a huge game changer as I’ve been on my quest to 100% complete Mars Mission and Dino Attack - about a month ago, I got the Hypersonic Operations Aircraft ($450 sealed on BL) in sealed bags for $120 by ordering it from a more obscure source - even with it in my hands, I still doesn’t seem real. My advice for any collector reading this would be to leave no stone unturned and look in any obscure place you can think of, because you never know what you’ll find.

The thing I find most annoying is buying retired sets that are clearly in perfect condition in the pictures, then they send them in a bag rather than a box, then the posty puts an elastic band around multiple packages and the pressure leaves a dent in the boxes.

So much of my ebay experience is:
-"this'll be my limit" only to surpass the limit by double then to still lose
-impulse buying sets from subthemes that I barely care for, I just wanna complete the theme
-watching something for months on end, waiting for the seller to offer a discount for like 5%
-hoping the prices are cheaper than bricklink OR the sets are available in my country (neither ever are)
Best deal I ever had was sitting on a Tower of Orthanc set for almost 2 months until the seller dropped the price by $100 and I gobbled that up the second i got the notification

    Gets comfy.
Back when money wasn't an issue I went through a period of buying (almost) every 6751 set I saw on eBay. Seemed to be the only one ever wanting this set cos more often than not it would be just me bidding. Got around 25 of them, most used but 1/2 still in box or still bagged.
I wish I had recorded each buy as the experience received from different sellers varied dramatically.
On the top (used) end, the model had been completely dismantled, pieces cleaned, bagged by type, put in quality box (didn't mind not getting the original), with enough padding to prevent jiggling, and fragile wings given extra protection. - a joy to unwrap.
On the low (used) end, the model broken into about 4 parts, dumped into the original box, little padding used so pieces bashed about during transit, and wings not protected - 😞
With the rest scattered in between.
The thing which bugged me was you couldn't gauge the Quality of packing service you'd get from the listing. Each one was basically the same, be they packaging Gods, or packaging doofuses.
Quality of bricks - most of the light bricks had battery corrosion, most had a couple brownish red plate pieces broken, and many had 3+
One thing I quickly made sure to do was email the seller before buying to ask about the state of the wings (the listing pix not always showing them fully) and also to ask if they could sandwich the wings between two pieces of card to protect. Doing this probably saved me a few needlessly crumpled wings.
Oh, and if you're buying a set whose box you care about , always advisable to ask their packaging method. My bottom-quality seller simply used brown paper around the box - no padding or anything else for protection - so maybe it was in great condition at the start, definitely wasn't when I got it.
And as to what I've done with my "army of Dragons" , well each one has been sorted, zip locker with a list of parts needed on the bag, and are all in a big box waiting a time when I have somewhere to put them. #oof.

    • @JohnSmith-kf8mv
      @JohnSmith-kf8mv ปีที่แล้ว

Plus 1 - always examine the photos closely.
I failed to do that once, getting so caught up in the bargain I was going to win. Thing turned up (classic space set bundle) - dirty, broken pieces , missing pieces, wanted to cry.
Going back to the pix and zooming in, the dirt was clearly there, along with obvious important missing pieces.
So yes, incomplete sets being listed in the Lego complete set section is a huge wtf-eBay of mine. There should be a section for incomplete sets.

    • @JohnSmith-kf8mv
      @JohnSmith-kf8mv ปีที่แล้ว

      Plus 2 - Bricklink.
Be wary when buying from abroad. I wanted one specific 1x2 modified plate, loads of them. Saw a store in France had a bunch. I'm in England so there was much free and taxes added, but all in all a great deal so worth this one-time buy.
Package turned up with 50% being the wrong part. Now these are VERY similar, indistinguishable to the layman but NOT what I wanted. And a big wtf with the order being for a SINGLE piece type so you'd think they'd make sure to get the correct one.
Anyway, no worries I thought, easy enough to work out the refund, simples.
Then the owner pointed me to his terms & conditions - basically, if they mess up, you get store credit not a refund. And since there was no way I'd risk going through all that again, plus it was only ever going to be a one time thing, I saved goodbye to that money.
So when buying from abroad , best check what they'll do it they make a mistake.

HOWEVER: the Jango helmet was a boba helmet SLOPPILY PAINTED silver and blue. It was gut wrenching, but I didn’t know about reporting listings, or replacing it on Bricklink, and I didn’t remember this story until Jango’s helmet was worth $100 now I’m an AFOL...I now have a strange attachment to that scammy fig, but I also have a desperate temptation to spend $150 to replace the helmet. Selling and buying on ebay is the biggest pain in the ass, especially outside of the US (I'm european, USPS isn't a thing here ebay!)
So I only stick to my countries version of ebay (which is owned by ebay funnily enough and works 1000% better) and craigslist. Sometimes you snag pretty good deals.

I am a bionicle collector and local sources have been way better than bricklink or ebay these past years. Sometimes I just get too lucky with my local sources so I have a plenty of duplicates of the sets I own. It can get a bit annoying too because you will just lose a track of your collection. I mean Brickset is fine but who has time to update their lists.

Oh man that‘s why I only ever bought stuff local and picked it up. Was way too scared of getting fucked over… So, recently I found 4559 Cargo Railway for 75€ and said yeah let‘s try this. Lo and behold, it came. Didn‘t get completely screwed. Yay! Only a few wrong pieces, like 4 or 5 and none of them are special? Yay! Tried it out: 9V Motor is close to dying. Runs slow, stops randomly and squeaks louder than your mom last night. Never again. :)

I have a 2005(I think) Ferrari enzo that I got as a gift In, well 2005 (I was 9) and I decided to rebuild it at the start of this year. Got it down from my parents loft, pieced it out and used brick link ti get the missing pieces
Spent twice the value of the set on new parts, which was a cool choice, but it is missing a wheel. I could get one but the only one is in the USA, I’m in Scotland, it’s like £30 for a wheel
