Surprised to see towards the end that the breast meat is what is harvested from the bird, what about the rest? It would be nice to send the rest of it to a taxidermist and have the prime ones mounted and sold. This might provide additional funds to the business. Its been many, many years since I've been pheasant hunting, would always head out with my father and uncle to some nice farm fields ( after receiving written permission ) and harvest the daily limit. Fast forward 35 years and the once nice hunting grounds are now full of homes, ironically I bought one of these homes where I used to hunt. Fast forward again 14 years after moving to Greece, good luck trying to find any decent game birds here on Crete, too many poachers over the years have disregarded the laws and depleted the stock. Not to mention this country is too anti gun. You need to jump through the hoops to buy a decent shotgun ( which is WAY, WAY over priced ) and what they don't tell you is that you need a second license to transport the firearm, an easy way for the government to make money off of fines. Have all of my fine firearms in storage back in the States.
I am a game shooter and occasional stalker. But i do hate to hear people refering to shooting as 'sport'. This is just giving anti's fuel for their cause. I never use the term 'sport' when talking about shooting.
Thanks Colin. That's an interesting view. How do you express views such as 'a sporting shot' or 'a sporting bird'?. I agree sport has poor connotations but I'd like us to recapture it. / Charlie
