    Another thing about perfect fit-sleeving the cards before putting them into a binder is that there is a very subtle pattern on the pages. You can feel it when you run your finger on it, and I guess long exposure on an unsleeved card can potentially press into the surface and leave an almost unnoticeable pattern. I've remember purchasing a card from Italian Legends which was in a ridiculously high condition. It was gem mint from the front. But the back surface had some weird pattern when inspected under light. I thought that maybe it was a fake card, but it turns out that it was legit and it appears that it was likely stored in a premium binder for a while but without a sleeve.

    • @MagicMetalMoney

      That’s a really good point! I never realized that, but smother great reason to use perfect fits!

    Gotta be careful with elastic bands on binders as well. I have started to see some bends on cards on the first pages at the spot where the band goes over.

    Great video! For a good trade binder i always recommend people the 'Ultimate Guard Zipfolio Xenoskin'. You keep calling pages sleeves. If it holds more than one card, specifically 9 12 18 or 24, its not a sleeve. its called a page.
    My cards are double sleeved in KMC and then go into a side-loading binder like the one you show, except i use Ultimate Guard Flexxfolio.
    KMC is a bit pricey, from Japan, but they have the best inner sleeves.

    • @MagicMetalMoney
      @MagicMetalMoney  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The binder looks solid too! I love KMC for my perfect fits. Not too bad in price when bought in bulk.

    • @kurtilein3
      @kurtilein3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@MagicMetalMoney Many other inner sleeves are soldered together on 3 sides. KMC only on two, on the short side that is not open they are folded. So the card goes in all the way to the edge. I also like the consistency over many years. I bought KMC super orange outer sleeves 10 years apart, the new ones are identical to the 10+ year old ones, you can mix them and cannot tell them apart.

  • @penguinlust6749
    @penguinlust6749 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Yup. I took a long time off from the hobby and when I came back to it one of the first things I did was re-binder most of my collection. However, one frustrating thing was discovering while some ringless binders have higher capacity than others, they don't widen the spines to compensate. This matters when the vast majority of good ringless binders have a capacity of 360 (20 pages) while some sets have more than 360 cards. The option is either wider pages or more pages if you want to fit the whole set in a binder. Both approaches have their drawbacks.

    • @MagicMetalMoney
      @MagicMetalMoney  ปีที่แล้ว

      I hadn't thought about that (since I don't collect sets). But for those who do, sets now have soooo many cards due to all the variants. Crazy that you'd need multiple binders to collect a single set. Maybe a big D Ring binder with enough pages is better?

    it's a thing we can neglect, but yes, a collection can be worth a lot and still fragile
    Even with my cheap and small collection,(innistrad,midnight hunt and crimson vow, nearly all of it, and a lots of common cards from a lot of editions) it would be bad to loose 50 to 100$ of value, just because of bad storage.

    Arent they just called rings? O rings typically mean a completely different thing in various diff.. fields? By fields i mean stuff like, from neumatics(think paintball) to just basically creating a protective seal from air/water/whatever.
    Ive also heard ppl say to avoid side loader binders. Any clue why?
    Last thing i was curious about how serious of a problem these things are. Ive never had any of these issues not even when pokemon initial released in the states.
    Ive only recently started looking into these things as ive gotten back into collecting so to speak. The main thing i see mentioned is to avoid sheets/sleeves made with pvc, and to go for acid free sheets. Ive been finding it hard to find info on this stuff because unless youre going for the top end sleeved pages or what have you they dont always advertise what they are made out of or any of that stuff.
    I received a really cool binder as a gift and it came with its own sheets that i like but i have no idea if i should even worry about replacing them. Im probably going to do so because to top all those concerns there seems to be a thin film of oil on the inside of some of the sheets and it would be far too much trouble and unsafe to try and clean then reuse them imo.
    If anyones reading this and has opinions/info id love to hear it. Thanks for your time

      @@gnwn.anthony oh I see. Gotta imagine that that is inevitable wear and tear that comes with pulling cards in and out repeatedly over time. Likely inevitable, but I would think washing hands more often and reducing skin oil would help?

    The correct way is the way I've done it for 22 years: Don't use binders. Put them in boxes, sort by rarity, alphabetically and arrange so the cards lie flat.

      Flat? As in... not vertical or upright like they do in the LGS inside sleeves? Won't they take up a lot of space if they lie flat?

    • @shea455
      @shea455 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@magicthegatheringexplorations Roughly the same. Figure a stack of 100 cards is 2.5" and they're inside of vertical boxes but lying flat in them. The form factor is different but the space consumed is smaller, if anything. Most of my set is 4-of-a-kind for each card, so 4 complete sets by color, when shelved, makes everything easier to find. I'm anti-9-pocket (side damage risk or bend damage), but keep 100% sleeved from the moment they are opened. Folders don't scale as well.

      @@shea455 thanks man I’m inclined to do the same once we get our own space. So you mean let’s say I laid out a long rectangular box with the cards vertical inside them like in an LGS, but now I took one end of the box and brought it toward the ceiling… and that’s How the cards lie flat? Or do you mean leave the boxes horizontal as they are but make the cards lie flat?
      Thanks 🙂

      @@magicthegatheringexplorations Have a look at the ultra pro 4-compartment boxes. I stand those on the smallest edge. The cards lie flat in them, and I usually have 6 of those boxes per set... usually one box per color, plus 'everything else'. Some sets drive me to a 7th box. I've settled on sorting alphabetically by rarity and it's pretty easy to dial up any card I want in a few seconds.

    That Ankh of Mishra is HP at best. If you sold me that as LP or MP, we would have to throw hands. Also, Ultra Pro is TRASH quality. I use the card-folio but the quality is also extremely terrible. After just a year of storing WITHOUT flipping through it daily, the plastic is cracked by and brittle. The best binder ever made was by a short-lived company that made binders under the name FOUR. Ultra Pro’s fire-resistant binders get past the cardfolio’s brittleness problem, but at 2-3x the cost.
