For the moment where its accidently in-character of Sonic to not take an insult lying down in english
David Humphrey and Jason Griffith are literally the best Shadow VAs.
I’ve seen the videos of “Sonic engrish” many months ago, but now that you covered my favorite character, I must subscribe!
14:20 That guy sounds a lot like Roger Craig Smith’s Sonic voice

I dont think-
Shadow!
Sonic 06 has the best cgi cutscenes ever
Would you say that the Japanese script is the "original script"? I wonder if it was translated and then localized further later or if they always intended on localizing the game entirely and that the Japanese script is more of an afterthought.
It varies from title to title, honestly.
@@IllikasRagerLost World and Frontiers are some outliers, as the English scripts (and dub) for those games were done BEFORE the Japanese.
@@paperluigi6132 don't forget Sonic 3D Blast, Sonic Boom, and others.
@@IllikasRagerI pointed out those two specifically as those are mainline games. Boom as a whole was made from scratch in the West.
@@paperluigi6132 Thank you, captain obvious.
To Ian’s credit, due to Sega’s strict mandates on how Shadow’s character should be, he straight up wants to use him as little as possible in the IDW comics until Sega eases up on their demands and restrictions.
1:15 So be it Japanese or English, SA2 is all about people speaking over each other lol
They did. A few months ago, in fact. The mandates are gone.
Japan wins again.
15:05 definitely not here though
@@paperluigi6132definitely
Yes except for '06 and Sonic Heroes (Heroes is tied). Hell, I even like SA2 English Shadow (though not as much as the Japanese)
I'd still honestly say I think David Humphrey captured the character best in English tbh.
He was working with some stiff translations and direction but his overall performance matches Koji Yusa's the closest and best captures the feeling of a very troubled and closed off guy who's maybe not so bad deep down.
I love Jason Griffith but his Shadow lacks the more refined elegance of Yusa and Humphrey imo, and Kirk Thornton just doesn't do it for me at all.
David Humphrey also has the most suave of any Shadow voice ever. lol
I personally like Jason's a little more, nothing objective just personal preference. But you're right that Kirk Thornton isn't a great fit at all. He sounds wayyy too gruff and gravely. It's so evil for no reason
Hello! Are you comfortable with me using a clip from this (with credit, of course) in an upcoming video?
Sure.
3:56 Shadow the hedgehog and María robotnik we are watching to see the Earth together.
I think both are good. They have slightly different personalities (especially for Sonic), and both localisations suit their respective personalities well.
Though, for Sonic, his Japanese personality is very weird to me. I way prefer the badass, American version. But still, that's not on the voice actor, that's on the writing. The voice actor suits the writing well.
