Thanks for the comment. I am still working on getting all the necessary gear for this channel but it is expensive especially for someone who isn’t making any money off of the videos. I did just buy some editing software that should help with the background noise in future videos. A mic is definitely on the list to purchase and needed especially in that noisy old barn. Great video. Do you know whether the engine was fresh water flushed regularly? I'm wondering if it would have made a difference with the corrosion around the water pump.
Thank you. Both engines are flushed after every use but the boat sits in the water 24/7 so getting a good flush like in a sling or on a trailer is impossible. With that said it’s pretty common to see a bit of corrosion in that area if you run in the saltwater even being flushed on a trailer because the gasket seems to absorb or hold onto a certain amount of salt and there is a lot of dissimilar metals going on there as well. It’s usually not a problem and seems to stop or slow down when the gaskets and bolts are greased. Pulling the lower unit and greasing the water pump gasket and bolts before the outboard ever hits the water helps the most and ensures you will be able to remove the bolts for future maintenance but most people don’t have the time or patience for that. You can't get the water pump bolts out because of electrolysis I would've checked all the zincs in there powerhead because with the aluminum hull it's just going to eat that engine like it was a vat of acid
There isn’t any anodes in the power head on a Mercury Verado. Electrolysis is just one of the many joys of life on the coast. Thanks for watching and commenting.
No grease fittings on Verado. You can spray some corrosion X or something similar where the engine pivots while steering if you want but I generally don’t mess with it. Thanks for watching and commenting!!
Yep. Everything in neutral. Once the lower unit is installed the prop should turn freely. I don’t think I mentioned it in the video but the engine will need to be running on a hose or in the water to verify forward-neutral-reverse are functioning correctly. Thanks for watching!!!
