People trying to say Old Town Road isn't country is especially ridiculous considering so much of popular country music rn literally just sounds like pop with maybe an acoustic guitar

Real Country music hasn't been a thing since the Nashville Sound was invented.
Those songs shouldn't be considered country either. Pandering has been a massive problem in the industry, leading to many songs being mislabled as country, but that doesn't justify Old town road being classified as country.
Country enthusiasts have been complaining about this issue for years concerning a lot of white artists. So don't pretend that lil nas X is the only person people are kicking up a fuss about.
With more and more artists pandering and being accepted into the charts in recent years, it has made it difficult for people to define country compisition and style as half of the songs they use as samples to create the country template, just aren't country.
It's like trying to define what a fruit is compared to a vegetable if all your life people told you that cabbages, carrots and a potatoes were fruit.
@@liamhollands344 no one is acting like they dont recognoze the hypocrisy but it took Nas X's situation to bring these issues to light ,people are paying attention now,I stopped listening to country after it got a 'reboot' I stick to my old school some of genres got destroyed in the 2000's Rock for one and country ,maybe now they'll go back to their roots
@@walkz007 Just saying. A lot of the people kicking up a fuss are people who never paid country music any interest in the past, and generally people who have no interest in the genre as a whole.
They haven't noticed the slow degredation of country and in all honesty have avoided it because they see nothing but the pandering. Thus, Old town road seems like it fits in to them.
After all, most people dislike country because they think it is nothing but re-used buzz words. They only see the problem.
The modern day banjo literally comes from Africa
Country music originated in Ireland
@@kimberlys8422Lmao.
@Emma XTC Cowboys originated from Mexico there were black cowboys too but later in history around the mid 1800s

Hambone originated from the prohibition of african drum in plantations. Black ppl started drumming on their bodies.
I'm old enough to say, I met and greatly appreciated Charlie Pride during my lifetime. He was and still is, an amazing man.
I about died when he broke that racist guitar!!! XD
And Roy looks like a black Teddy Roosevelt.
Lol Nelly also had a country song which they didnt want to classify as Country 😂😂😂
True. Country Grammar. And no, I don't understand all the words. hehehehe
It’s wasn’t Nelly’s song. He was featured on that wack ass country song...
Really weirf how you guys dont want to bring up ither country music artist like darius rucker who never had the genre of their music disputed the only thing country about old town road is the hook nothing else

@Emma XTC facts
Black people invent country music, rock, blues, jazz, funk, soul, some people even said punk
Few people know that all of those forms of music were invented in Africa.
just us kind of dubious on that last one cause punk was all about not being able to play music or at least pretending not being able to , I kind of missed a career back then

Black people DID invent punk. The Hackney brothers out of Wisconsin in the early 1970s. The band was called Death, and technically, their brother David Hackney was the one behind the sound so he was the one who invented it.
Emma XTC and Merengue and Bachata!
Roy Moore Jr. Is A Comedic Genius. 🤣 Comedy Central Needs To Give That Man His Own Show. 💯❤
Lol..i thought he was about to surprise us with a hidden talent when he reached for the guitar
Me too 😂😂😂
People out here acting like Darius Rucker was never a thing
Darius Rucker is the Nineties mom jeans of music: we don't want to admit we all used to own at least one pair.
Wagon Wheel will ALWAYS be a favorite from him.
People out here still calling him "Hootie" so don't give the people too much credit.
Ray Charles recorded "Modern Sounds in Country and Western" in 1962 (was a mono record) … He always loved country and western.
My favorite segment. You always learn something from.CP Time and remember, it's for the culture!

Richard Robbin2 Me Too! I grew up listening to Charlie Pride and he was my favorite singer!
Nelly had a country song called "All in my Head" that was really good
It's called Over and Over and it's not a country song, just because it has a guitar in it doesn't mean it's country
@@lordbuddybear no it's called all in my head.......Google it
@@lordbuddybear lmao my bad just googled it myself you are right!🤣😂🤣
@@lordbuddybear still a country song 😤
Some dumb ass in another comment thread said country grammar was the song 😂
I love country music's so much hearing that back brothers and sister do country music's make me so happy I need to hear some back country music's. From brother and sister, big time love to all the back brother and sister sisters
Also Country music came out of The Blue's music That Black People use to sing and play way back when!!
Roy put on that cowboy hat and guitar looking like Uncle Pecos from Tom & Jerry about to sing "Crambone"! 😂😂😂

You Don't Know Me
Careless Love
Even Hank Williams' Hey Good Lookin'
If you want to talk about Blacks in country you've got to talk about Brother Ray. He even started off his biography saying (to paraphrase) "The first thing you've got to know about Ray Charles is I'm country" He was talking about the backwoods experience, which he lived and the music, which he liked.

My Dad is ALWAYS talking about Charlie Pride. My preference is old school country but some of the new stuff is kinda good lately but I notice they have rap in their songs too.
The mustache has hit level 500000000!!!!!
Damn I was hoping for him to go into how blacks created country music...the banjo is an African instrument
Me too
I've been waiting for a new CP Time for too long now! Finally! Love this, he's so funny ❤️😍
Ray Charles released the album _Modern Sounds in Country and Western Music_ in 1962. It stayed at #1 for 14 weeks, and was nominated for the 1963 Grammy for Album of the Year. But then he was a musical genius in nearly every genre he ever tried.
Can we get a lot more Roy wood jr. Please?
Roy Wood Jr with a guitar reminds me of: th-cam.com/video/_FyJyurljoM/w-d-xo.html

Is Bill Withers considered country?!
_Only darkness everyday_
Thank you for the ear worm...I will be singing this for a week😅
Omfg, I LOVE that song
kimberly s He should be. His is a mixture of blues and country.
i laughed way too fucking much at that ‘Don’t Mind The Mustache’ cover lol
Love me some Roy Wood Jr.
get away, i seen him first.
this is my favorite segment!!! Roy Wood Jr. is so talented and funny.
Country music has roots in black music (the blues genre specifically), so black folks singing/liking country music shouldn’t be that big of a surprise.
michaelatw86 Look it up.
We both know you are wrong. Music is literally recorded history. Blues, jazz ( which is very complex), rock and role, and country music ( a derivative of blues) were created by black people. I am not sure why that offends you, but facts are facts.
@michaelatw86
Tiffany is right tho, I mean we get and in next generation you will say white people created black people, so you must be feeling good about it.
I can see why people debating whether it's Rap or Country. It's those beats THOSE FUNKY BEATS! but I mean it's got a country swing to it excusing the beats

*YEEAAAAAH* I'M GONNA TAKE MA HORSE TO THE OLD TIME ROAD ! I'M GONNA... RIIIIIIIIIIIDE TIL I CAN'T NO MORE
They werent ready for all that jelly hahaha
The irony of being cast out of something we created is always the trickbag. Like putting hillbilly cirus on Lil Nas X track for it to be accepted by billboard. That is what culture vulturing looks like.
I feel like Old town road was a mix of country and either pop or hip hop
It's about as country as most of the hits Sam Hunt and Florida Georgia Line have had. If white artists hadn't already topped the country charts with country rap, then lil nas x being taken might seem justified. But country has been borrowing hip hop elements for a little over a decade now, so Billboard lacks a good defense.
@@samberg8181 ok
To be fair to Cyrus, the reason he's on the song is that he heard about the controversy, listened to it, and basically said to himself "this is some fucking bullshit, anyone with ears would call this country". So he approached Lil Nas X and asked if they could sing it together in order to force Billboard's hand to put it on the country charts. Plus, one of the reasons he was so adamant about it is because back in the day he tried to make a pop crossover album but Billboard decided that it was still country so the album tanked and it effectively ended his career. So on one hand, yes it is partially in his self interest because he's making money from it, but it's also partially just him using his white privilege in order to help a black creator succeed in a racist industry
"And even in that case, you'd call him J-Deezy."😂
"guitars are racist" had me laughing 3:20
My mother was Charlie Pride's best fan. And shout out to the quad of ladies from Oakland CA. You go Pointer Sisters!
Hahaha 🤣🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂😂 CP time is becoming my favorite segment of the daily show!! Tf was he bout to play on that racist guitar 🎸
Important one that wasn't mentioned.
Etta James - I'd Rather Go Blind
Charley Pride is the black version of Bobby Caldwell, a lot of black people had no idea he was white.
Shit, you got me!!! I didn't know BC was white either-- I Googled him to make sure! Wow, learn something new every day!!! Respect him even more now...
Informative and funny. Lol
i heard this song, its definitely rap country mix
Live in rural Michigan for a couple years, country music everywhere. When a woman at work brought a tape player, she wanted to know what tape to play, I'd always say Charlie Pride"cause "That man could sing the phone book, and it'd sound good." Saw Charlie on TV......holy cow! He's black! Just never occurred to me.
@Great Awakenings, LLC I sense a cut and paste theme.
Favorite part of any show
We all need a good CP time once in a while
Love CP time and I’m not black but “I’m for the culture” nonetheless!
Black Country and White R&B is how rock and roll was born.
Where I live we have a cardiologist who is a Black Country singer. Dr Cleveland Francis. He had a few hits in the 90’s
greatest segment of late night TV
Yeeeeessss another one🙏🏽👍🏽👌🏽😍
That mustache lining dope👌
Aaron Neville didn't wear that tight ass vest for no reason!! Give him that respek!!😂😂
Charlie Yeah!!💗
3:14 - when you sing so bad the guitar gives up on you
Cool good to learn
A long awaited comeback
Oh boy you know what time it is
God I love Roy
My favs have been The Carolina Chocolate Drops check them out.
They are fabulous. In every sense of the word.
The Daily Show knows I can't be late for CP Time.
I actually really listened to Charlie Pride as a kid and loved his music! [im a twenty one pilots fan, ]so u get the vast variety lol I listen to...
Darius Rucker needs much more love in this segment than just a brief name drop XD
1:23 Is that on vinyl or Spotify?
One of Montana's (yep, that's true) favorite sons is Charlie Pride.
Ctfu I didn’t expect the guitar to break 😂
did he use a damn razor on that poor guitar LMAO
I just wish Comedy Central would make this a show.
Lol it's all fun and games until someone remixes that short sound clip into a chart topping hit
We need CP time daily lol!!!
anyone else thinking about the key and peele country music sketch?🤣🤣🤣🤣
💕💕💕 Facts!!
love this. talk about JAZZZZZ
No lie... Broken guitar strings are a classic 😂😂😂
Honestly (having actually listened to it) I kinda get it. Great song, but when a song is so different from the rest does it change the genre or leave it? Don't know, but not that big a deal really.
Country music is black music. Fusion of gospel, blues and folk - two part black slaves and one part Irish immigrants to the Appalachian Mountains.
2:08 turn on captions
'Guitars are racist.' LOL
Sooo. Which character is this Samuel L. Jackson photo depicting? (On the coffee mug at the beginning). Many CP TIMEs ago, another viewer informed us that every episode shows a different Samuel L. character. Ever since then, I feel I need to know. Thanks in advance
It's Fury (Nick Fury) from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Specifically, that is supposed to be young Fury from Captain Marvel.
@@CarysLibri Thanks
Actually, I think this one is Zeus from DIE HARD 3.

That man is a genius.
1:47 MY G.....
1:52 wait
MORE ROY!!!!!!
we have the same argument on the heavy metal side....
how much rapping/talking thru-out a song puts you into hip hop territory?
but genre is really decided by who listens to the song the most, not by what the artist calls it.
not everything is about race.....
Genre is literally determined by the artist. What are you smoking?
The banjo is an instrument originally from Africa
Lmao that nick fury mug
that's why I've BEEN saying that old town road is country. they invented both genres so couldn't they decide which one it is?
I learned a lot about music history from this segment!
...Old Town Road definitely isn't country after having just listened to it, though. Can't even give it the hybrid pass that makes RATM a rock unit.
Awesome :)
Was not ready
For that jelly
He must have forgotten about Nelly. I can hear the song in my head, I don't remember the name and it was a duet.
I LOVE CP TIME lol
Wasn't Don Cheadle in Boogie Nights all about country... and at least one other thing?
The problem was, country music was very trendy in that time period. Because of trucker culture, SMOKEY & THE BANDIT, and a few other things, country was pop by 1977 through 1981 or so. So Don Cheadle in BOOGIE NIGHTS was going with the flow at that time; I don't even think he actually liked it as much as he was trying to follow a trend.
"guitar is a racist" 😂😂😂😂😂
Have people forgotten about Nelly?
Wtf I'm sayin smh Country grammar was the REASON I knew most of this stuff already
@Libertarian Populist Over and Over Again, he was actually on a tour with country stars when he was falsely accused of rape.
Why because he did one country song?
Don't mind the mustache 😂
Still more black history in 3min than today's school year's curriculum.
You Forgot to mention Darius Rucker!!
A black man who sings country music!
I’m surprised there aren’t more black country artists! The history of the cowboy is lush with black men working the ranches and moving cattle across our country (and not as servants)..before rap, before jazz, before Motown, what kind of music do you suppose ranch hands and cowboys of all colors listened to? Country music..because they were in the country..they didn’t have classifications like we do now.
I'm freaking black but didn't know so much black people made country musics
Well now you know check out some inventions you’ll be even more shock
