According to another local historian, Vincenzo Belli, the origin of the town dates back to the 5th century, due to the transfer of the inhabitants of the Roman city of Cereate, located a short distance to the north-west, to a safer place.
At the beginning of the 6th century a Benedictine monastery was built nearby, dedicated to Saints John the Baptist and the Evangelist, according to tradition founded by Saint Benedict of Norcia himself, who would have a temple of Janus located on the nearby Colianese was destroyed.

    Grazie ancora.

Loved it as well Ken. A truly "off-the-beaten-path" town... not famous at all, yet so charming.. I remember it was a Sunday evening while visiting the area around, and I decided to film this, quite unexpectedly, as it wasn't well planned for sure. There's so much to explore around..

I think I'd go nuts with it being so quiet. And there's no one around. I would probably like to go there to meditate or really relax in silence. My thoughts exactly Dear Haupia, such a peaceful town on a... Sunday evening (!). I was shocked too... some people were there in that restaurant, you can hear the music, near the walls of the castle.. but it was just a small party.. Very quiet, very peaceful, almost unknown town, but full of charm I think. Hehe that puppy was TOO adorable to be honest. Maybe I should just make a video of that)

Ciao Molly, I would suggest to contact the "Comune" (town hall) of the town , and for the "Anagrafe" (registry office) of that same town hall. They usually helps in these research

Have they never heard of Concrete, Weedkiller & Paint? 90% of the place needs doing up. Fancy letting a lovely place go to ruin.

I understand the point, but I always think there's also some beauty in the "decadent way" of seeing things; these old towns aren't always shiny, hi-tech and super perfect, but there's some beauty in it as well. Personal opinion of course! But I understand your point, some could be better too

I agree to a point...NOW tell that to your fellow UK'ers. Glasgow is 10X worse, every building is full of black algae, crumbling, weeds, same with Dublin, Wales, just watched a video of small town in England, same and nearly every roof was covered in black, loose, broken shingles. So don't play the high and mighty mate.
