Fenticus, To answer your question more directly than you have it.... The MGS is used in Infantry Units, yes. It is NOT the infantry that CONTROLS them, however. The drivers, gunners, and commanders of the MGS are all 19K, or M1 Armor Crewman.
Lol, the guy did all that counting and when he finally came 321 fire, the gunner still needed like two seconds to react. Fire when ready was more appropriate in this case.
This vehicle is rated to file the 105 rounds from its relatively light 22 ton platform, on the move or stationary, its a very light vehicle to fire a 105 from, and it rocks the platform, but it doesnt roll. They field tested the Stryker firing the 105 at speed on a turn and did not roll it, but I would not want to fire in the same direction as the turn on uneven ground, those tires are not very wide and it looks like you could roll it, but it hasnt happened in testing.
@John234pwns I apparently didn't make my point clear - the M1114 ARMORED humvees had the same basic armor as the stryker, and with two having the same loading capacity and being more mobile in urban scenarios they represented similar capability. And yes, the procurement estabilishment of TACOM could be a bit more efficient :/
@caerleon87 the reason for that is because it is a training exercise. the us army has dumy towns build near the training facilities in the states so that after or soldiers are out of basic they can learn how to fight in an urban environment. vehicle crews also have to learn how to fight in urban areas so that they do not leave themselves open. they learn how to scan for threats effectively and how to bring they guns to bear on a target effectively in the close in area. hope that helps =)

My point about leadership was that the MGS could have been much better with a purpose designed low recoil gun like on the BTR or on the Centauro. But the managers for GDLS insisted on the use of the L7 105mm gun because GDLS has the license for it. Most of what I know of light armor comes from an IFV guy I know.

@John234pwns Two humvees equals one stryker..in price, carrying capacity and fuel consumption. Humvees can be faster, but can't have MEXAS. In tight urban corners the much smaller turning radius helps. Also you have TWO vehicles instead of one...meaning less KIAs when they inevitably roll on a mine(IED). Also you have two heavy weapons - M2HBs on the hummers.

If you really wanted an efficient APC that could withstand more punishment the US Army should have sent in M113A3s, which have better RPG protection when equipped with their Bar armor...which also covers their wheels unlike the slat armor on strykers.

When it fires, the entire bodywork seems to warp twist and shake...seriously guys, trade it in for a BTR-90M...That guy has a 30mm cannon, and a 100mm low pressure gun. It doesn't cover the wheel wells (which are large on a stryker) it does not carry the roof, and there are at least inch wide spaces between the MEXAS built onto the stryker.
