Thank you so much for this!
I always wanted to work on mine cause action on 2nd pedal is somewhat loose.
Now I have some idea of what to do.

did you crack it open and find anything strange? It's probably the springs...or the tensioner...

I have 2 9000 pedals from 2018 and the posts look to be one piece with the base. Possibly the double pedal is slightly different or your could be a first generation. I know there have been revisions on the 9000 series since the first year.

There is definitely an updated version of the 9000. I saw another drummers video showing the difference. The post could indeed be one piece now...I'm not sure.

I have the same issue. Can you just take off the side that the loose post is on or do you have to take apart the whole thing? Also, how'd you get the set screws off of the big black posts? Mine seem to be stripping.

you can take off both posts...what set screws do you mean on the posts? They are threaded on the bottom....but I don't see any other place....

Having been all the way through it, do you think this could be done without damaging anything? Thinking about swapping a Lefty pedal if it can be done properly..

You can definitely take it apart without damaging anything. I didn't break anything on mine except for that bearing shield and that wasn't a big deal. I don't think you could swap the left pedal without swapping some parts out....but DW might make a part to do it...lemme know what you find out. Thanks for watching, please subscribe if you haven't!

This guy made a great video showing how to make the left pedal a single pedal in a pinch: th-cam.com/video/boXx47hz5Ng/w-d-xo.html&frags=wn&ab_channel=matoolevitsch

You are right...no videos on how to take apart DW bass drum pedals. I purchased a 5002 accelerator and needed to move the beater drive up one notch on the shaft. I am mechanically inclined and could not do it. I moved the chain to to the top hole and adjusted on the accelerator + and -. I played a 5000 single chain for 18 years. Take one nut loose the shaft slides out no problem. The accelerator model and the 9000 different story. I did find a schematic on DW website for pedal parts break down if this helps anyone. dwdrums.com/info/schematics.asp
