    How to paint black fur in acrylics.
    I like to tackle this by working light to dark with multiple layers. I like to get a good base layer in place and build up my details gradually.

      She doesn’t tell you all the specifics .. because its a matketing ploy for her patreon .. which tbh is fair play .
      Artists do need to make a living …
      But yeah - she goes into all the small fundamentals on her patreon.

    How do you decide whether to do the dog in acrylic or pastel??

    • @zaratomsart
      @zaratomsart  ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question! For me, this now mainly falls down to what my Patreon members would like to see featured as I try to tailor the content there as much as I can. But when I was just doing pet portraits and a client asked my opinion on what medium would work best I always decided once I saw the photos. If the dog for instance had a really soft looking coat I would likely sway more towards pastels as the blending can be done so easily at each required layer. That's the only real time I'd be definitely deciding between one medium or the other. Other than that pastels and acrylics are very similar in how we work with them so I'd let the client decide if they have a strong preference =).

    Thank you for the excellent study! What color did you use for the glaze

    • @zaratomsart
      @zaratomsart  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My pleasure =). Erm... I used a few glazes I think. But it depends on the light source. Usually a mixture of a blue (ultramarine blue usually) black or possibly some dioxazine purple if the colour is a little warmer. Sometimes black fur reflects browns as well so it just depends. Something like this in the video more blues and purples in the mix.

    @wendymcmiles5716 ปีที่แล้ว

    You don’t say what colors or sizes brushes you are using 😊

    • @zaratomsart
      @zaratomsart  ปีที่แล้ว

      The colours and brushes I've used are all on the Patreon tutorial. The colours are predominantly mars black, titanium white, ultramarine blue and dioxazine purple. This is my go to palette for black fur depending on how warm or cool the fur looks. Black fur is really reflective so it can pick up browner tints as well.

    Hi, what size brush do you use for the fur's fine detail? Thank you!

    • @zaratomsart
      @zaratomsart  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use many depending on the type of fur texture. But mainly I stick to my liner brushes size 1 and 2 usually.
