    We enjoyed the session and the tips on putting the new seal in with packing the grease putting it back in flush and even showing your mistakes. Reality is the best. We do enjoy you showing us what to do and not to do.

      it's the governor seal that is leaking

    Before going to all the trouble of removing the crankcase cover: try screwing two or three sheet metal screws into old seal and pulling it out with prys or a slide hammer

      I like it

      Agreed. I drilled a hole in the old seal. Inserted the hook of a turnbuckle into the hole. Put a screwdriver through the eye on the opposite end of the turnbuckle and it popped off.

      So you were able to replace that seal without taking the whole crankcase off? If I can avoid taking it off the frame that would be ideal.

    I’ve found putting the engine mount bolts in their holes and using a wheel puller to work very nicely for getting the crankcase cover off without worry of damaging the cover or block. Just apply a bit of pressure and let it sit for a bit and let the pressure do the work. Worked like a charm for me.

    Great video man! Even better you’re from Texas 🤘🏻 always good to have a fellow Texan showing how’s it’s done. My son and I about to attempt taking his Gravely Briggs motor down.

      That is awesome. Such a cool project to work on with you son, glad I could give some guidance. I have a several other videos on this same engine. If you are taking it off may as well replace the piston rings and clean up the heads while you are at it. The rings wear out after 600 hours or so. Good luck and feel free to ask questions as you get into it.

  • @louboccanfuso9632
    @louboccanfuso9632 ปีที่แล้ว

    I very much appreciate these videos as I will have to do the rings on my FR691, and your series is super helpful. However, I don't think the main oil seal was supposed to be packed with grease the way you did it. The way I am reading the manual, grease is only packed in the groove that contacts the drive shaft. Packing grease in the inner channel the way you did might block the flow of oil back through the drain hole.

    Why not just block wood no old seal?

    • @MowerMike
      @MowerMike  ปีที่แล้ว

      Well a block is square and a seal is round

    • @Appalachian_Asshole
      @Appalachian_Asshole ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You must have been high when you answered his question. That block was round well more of a cylinder shape really. Until it was sent it to the mill. But that's not what Paul meant he wasn't insisting to use the block as a gasket he was referring to using the square block to tap the seal into place or until flush. I'm so glad I was able to help clear up that miscommunication there.

    I have a Kawasaki 850X with that particular gasket leaking. I want to give it a go but I’m worried about when that cover comes off, interior parts going everywhere….. anyhow…. Great video, I like your style. By the way, did the engine run without leaking? I need to know.

    Why take the oil sump off ?
    Just pull the seal and replace it. That is way too much work just for a seal. A couple screws in the old seal and pry or pull it out.

    If the final torque value is 20 ft-lbs torque in sequence to 10 ft-lbs then re torque to you final torque value of 20 in sequence again to guarantee you dont fck it up not even going to address the fact that the entire motor is rocking while you do it. But good on you because you will probably get away with it on a small motor.

  • @Goodellsam
    @Goodellsam 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I don't see why you have to pull the engine. You can use a seal puller like you use on a wheel hub. You can use a slide hammer dent puller. We definitely didn't pull motors to Change seals in a car.
    Just pull the pto and re install with the appropriate sized pvc pipe.
