It consists of CV reviews, experience interviews and case study interviews. Based on my experience working as consultant at McKinsey for many years, I share my insights on how to tackle the different typical sections of strategy consulting interviews. I will show you how to ace the interview. Learn some important case study interview preparation strategies. Consulting case studies are often used in consulting interviews. But other sections, such as personal experience interviews, are important as well.

      Hi Michael, yes makes sense, thanks! One of the things I did: During university, I founded an organization that collects decommissioned PCs and other IT equipment from corporations and donates it to refugee centers and other people in need (Digital Helpers). We built up a larger team with local groups in several German cities, won prizes etc. From this experience, I was able to extract some leadership stories. Hope this helps! Best, Heinrich

    Your videos are very helpful! I'm interviewing with McKinsey in a couple days time and have a question about taking some silent time out to answer the questions - if the candidate takes too long and the interviewer cuts in to demand a response, do you think that is detrimental?

    • @FirmLearning
      @FirmLearning  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi, believe here it is important to read the situation and the interviewer a bit. Usually in the beginning of the case or the experience interviewer, it is absolutely OK and expected that you take some time to structure your response. Whenever a new segment of a case starts, it is also ok to take some time. Of course in between these times the interviewer will try to engage you in a real conversation about the case, here then you should also be comfortable to just naturally talk to hin without making a break for every little answer. Best! Heinrich

    Hi, thank you for you helpful videos.
    I have a question about the salary, there's a negotiation or it's known depending on your CV?

    • @FirmLearning
      @FirmLearning  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi Fatma, especially in the large firms (MBB etc.) you will not be able to negotiate your salary in most regions, especially on the junior levels. In some offices it might be possible to negotiate a one-off signing bonus. As an experienced hire you can try to negotiate the exact level that you will be able to join (with different attached salary levels). Best! Heinrich

    Is it possible to get into consulting not straight away after graduating but rather after few years after? I want to gain some experience in leadership and communication. Is it possible to get into consulting without excellent university grades, rather exceptional skills acquired after work experience in a startup ?

    Hey Heinrich, great tips!
    In your experience, are consulting firms looking for GMAT scores?
    Because I was thinking that, prospectively, many consultants will end up taking an MBA; subsequently, having an astonishing GMAT gives consulting firms guarantee that their consultant will be accepted by a prestigious business school.
    So, would you advise me to prepare the GMAT? (I will graduate next year)

    • @FirmLearning
      @FirmLearning  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Andrea,
      Yes, consulting firms do look at the GMAT, if you did one. However the firms will not expect that you do a GMAT just for the consulting recruiting process. Also have never heard of someone do the GMAT just to get into consulting.
      Nevertheless, a high GMAT score will help you to get invited to interview, also because it indicates high analytical abilities which is valued by cosulting firms. But be aware that in many online application forms, they ask candidates to insert their GMAT score if they did one. You might therefore put yourself in the position (if you want to comply with the process) of needing to reveal your GMAT score even if your score turned out to be not as great as you hoped.
      Here some additional thoughts: th-cam.com/video/vwsxOAZ6T0g/w-d-xo.html
      Hope that helps!
      Best, Heinrich

      @@FirmLearning Yes, as far as I understood, GMAT is like a business card that may help someone getting the first interview.
      About revealing a bad mark, don't know.. there is the option to discard a certain test score, it may help.
      Thanks for your precious advice Heinring, very useful!

    Hello Sir, I'm an arts student preparing for consulting. Sir how to prepare for case interviews as I don't have fundamental knowledge of management like marketing, corporate finance, operations etc. Then how can I prepare, which books or study material should I prefer that starts from the basic in easy Language. Sir please reply

    • @FirmLearning
      @FirmLearning  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching the video! For most consulting firms interviews you do not require any prior knowledge and the interviewer wants to understand how you think. For preparations you must make sure you clearly understand what a case interview entails. Once you understand this it is important to practice both on your own and with case partners. :)
