This is genious. Nice to see design innovation presented ahead of the global trend of pushing junky new materials. Btw, @5:40 you're quite wrong, Chris: you wound the rib perfectly so that the wing can lay down nicely. Most of my flies look like Alfalfa from 'Little Rascals'. I'm bald, but on the river they call me 'rooster tail' cuz of all my dumb-ass flies.
I can see the advantage: A long stiff throat combined with a short soft wing will greatly reduce hook-drop; also having most of the drag in line with the hook point will let the fly rock and flash more in the current. Bryant Freeman gave me a Fiery Brown with a short feather wing and a long moose throat about 20 yrs ago. He called it a 'spey variant'. But it was tied on a 3/0 Bartleet iron - so it was more of a conversation piece, I guess. Better suited for jigging cod maybe.😄
I’m new to fly fishing and new to fly tying but I fish off the north coast of Newfoundland any chance you could do a video with some tips and tricks for new fly tiers
@@DevonMiller-u6o oh ok. Depending on your budget, the Shor Fishing fly tying kit is really good quality and economical for a beginner. It comes with fly assembly kits for a few patterns as well. Atlantic Rivers Outfitting Company , Outdoor Pros and Blue Ridge are all dealers of Shor Fishing products in NL. One of those three is definitely a great place to start.
Dandy job, Chris, keep those videos coming ,just love watching them.
Thanks Gary I appreciate it my friend
Gidday Chris. Fantastic job again. Thankyou.
