      I felt little weird about it but this is my openion depending on the time it takes for axe to get sharp imaging 1hr or 2hr to reach its max potential sharpness, if you cut half or almost 3/4 of the tree and if the axe looses sharpness quickly based on type of hardness of tree you van re sharp it and repeat, you have to add time it takes to reat cuz u don't want to over do then for what your body stress capacity.
      TLDR:
      if ideally you have 8hr and sharpening axe takes 2hr and every chop on the tree axe looses .2%of its sharpness, you have to sharp it again and have to take break in between to reach ur max performance.
      (Ik this is advice, but I always thought it as if done in real life these and other unknown problems come in way and your determination and planning ahead is what makes it through)

    I love when people take care of their belongings like this, there would be so much less waste all over if this became more common practice. I recognize that not everyone is in a situation where they have the time to do this, but there are plenty of people who do have the time or money, and choose to instead buy a new one. My family used the same kettle for about 30 years, and it lasted because we took care of it, and we used it daily. The only reason we got a new one was because the old one started disintegrating on the bottom. We still use the old kettle for watering plants and filling fish tanks.

    Just a bit curious about why you use diesel or kerosene. I know with a wetstone like you would use for a knife you use water on the stone so I’m not sure why this is different. I’ve looked online for why you wouldn’t just use water and I can’t find much more than just personal preference. I could be totally off but as far as I can figure you would use diesel or kerosene so you don’t get problems with rust that you might get with water but since you’re using oil on the axe head I don’t see why that would be a problem as long as you dry it. Anyway, if anyone has an answer thank you.

    • @autumn5592

      It's oily and thin. Floats away chips/dwarf better.
      Realistically, water is fine. So is mineral oil (depending on type of stone.)
      There is no reason to use Kerosene or Deisel - Expensive, bad for your health, works about the same as a thin general purpose oil or thinned motor oil (which is still bad for health.)
      Keep using water, it's fine.

    • @autumn5592
      @autumn5592 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You should use lube, water (spit), WD-40, Kerosene (paraffin), mineral oil, all work good with Aluminum Oxide stones (like the one in the video.)
      I recommend water though.
      And if you want to salvage it. If you have a slab of concrete that's flat, or some pavers, just go and rub the stone on that with some water/oil, it will flatten, and remove bad bits of stone. Remember to smooth the corners of the stone down too (45 degree on each edge)

    What's with the circles? All you are going to do is round your edges. A fine gives a better edge anyway. If you can sharpen you axe in 60 seconds, with a stone, it wasn't dull. You had a 60 sec video and obit showed a couple strokes with the stone.
