@@HighPeakAutos not at all Matt you are doing amazing and I for one totally enjoy your older land rover stuff. To walk my lab I walk past a indy garage that seems to specialise in land rover jaguar, so the road is always full of old Vogue's, Xj's Freelander's and Disco's. I never miss having a look even to the point of peering in the windows... One day my friend one day.

I completely agree. I think that is the last time cars were built to last. I've currently got a 1 of 300, 22 yo Toyota Crown Athlete VX. Just gone through another MOT, with no issues. In the nearly 3 years I've had it, its never let me down. Been on many multihour many mile trips.

Agreed - peak car era. I live in Aus now, but we still have my original 2002 D2 V8 bought new as a company car, a 2002 Mazda Tribute and a 2007 Ford Falcon BF wagon on LPG at about 50p/L. No point anything newer as they offer so little more given all the above have BT, ABS and the basics. I love tech, it's my industry but not in cars. Enjoy the basics of driving too much Also, too aware of how much I hate having new cars scratched etc...

My 03 L322 was Giverney green with cream leather. As you say a really classy colour. Looked great in Kensington, equally great in a muddy field, and best of all, muddy in Kensington. As a new one I had no engine issues (or indeed anything at all) in the two years I had it, and it remains the most comfortable non-Citroen I've had (nothing has ever come close to my SM). It was a Vogue so had the superlative comfort seats like yours. Yours will tidy up very nicely and count me jealous. Too many are interfered with - an electrician mentioned when chatting (normal Devon tradesmen behaviour) his air struts had both gone, then he mentioned he'd put 22 inch alloys on it. Hello, that extra rubber was designed as part of the suspension set up. I shall enjoy how you get on, oh, and I was considerably older man than you at 5. I bought Vivaldi's Four Seasons...

Oh man I just saw "I just bought a cheap Range Rover..." On my notifications and I'm telling that RR word made my day, especially that L322 RR, my favourite one too except I love it in black with the similar design thinner 9 spoked rims..talk about a real beauty you just purchased

Love your guidelines! I found a beautiful supercharged, and I had a good feeling about it when talking to the owner. When i saw it in person i fell in love. So when he told me to take a drive i went on checking little things. Just before turnig on the radio i was hoping it would be on one of the classical music stations, and it was! Then i opened the glove box, has a service history from beginning and all receipts from 2017 till today. In the trunk, original wiper blades in the box still, with nice little Land Rover logo 😂 everything works on the car besides timed heating(webasto), probably because it was never used. Not low mileage, 205xxx km, but it's like new. Love every second driving it!

There, in essence, is the skill acquired from experience in buying many cars as a business. Knowing the car is honest - there’s a huge difference between that and an ‘average’ car which will have multiple owners who all go through phases with it, so it’ll have multiple cheap and obvious repairs to body & paint - this one just has honest scars - it’s 16 years old - ironically always for any trader an actual pleasure to see. There’ll be a few hidden surprises but instinctively you know they won’t be serious enough to give you that ‘sinking’ feeling. It’s a nice thing, and that always gives that warm fuzzy feeling when you hand over the cash.

I'm fortunate enough to own a 2011 Autobiography which is much loved and cherished. It has the same switch gear as one of my early 2000's Jags, which to me was a bonus as I love the design and functionality. As Matt says it's important to look after them and from time to time things WILL go wrong. I've looked at the later shape models as a possible replacement when the time comes but as I use mine for transporting my wife's paintings the 'older' shape is much more practical with a flat loading area when the rear seats are down.

One of our directors at work is the epitome of "old money" - from the maroon corduroy trousers, through to the small Perthshire castle. He's pals with Charles. Yes, that one. He's got a deep green one of these on the drive, of course.

Recently got lucky bought a 09 4.2 SC from Canada and imported to the states 80k miles babied to death (no rust)suspension mint. Upgraded from my 07 4.2 that was totaled in a crash unfortunately blessing in disguise my 07 was goin on a bit age wise and miles. They definitely are going up these l322’s are art. Easy double in value give it time.

4.4 V8 Jag engine is fantastic... Done 280,000 in my disco 3 and it hasn't skipped a beat in 15 years.
It's not slow, but you'll empty the tank pressing the accelerator.
The thing that will kill the engine is the coolant tank which can crack and you end up witth a leak an no coolant.
    You will love that vehicle

Billy Joel….. I think you’re spot on there Matt, exactly the same as what radio station it’s tuned into, they are all tell tale signs of the type of person the previous owner was. That’s why I went for a gold coloured L405 which for the last 3 years had only been driven to church and back on a Sunday 😂. Not as you say a RR owned by a failed rapper… Great purchase and please keep us up to date with its repairs 👍
