Making a Solid Gold Railroad Spike

- I recreate the golden spike for the 150th anniversary of the completion of the transcontinental rail road. I'm only about about 21 months late... the last couple of years have been hard on me ok.

It can be a problem in the future. Cody doesn't pay attention and all the money will be spent on russian caviar and champagne with gold flakes in it.

*Cody gets splashed with a gallon of boiling water*
Cody: "That was a bit more violent than I expected..."
I'm sure it was a bit warm, but not enough water had contact for long enough (to get to boiling temp) to matter very much

It wouldn't have been at boiling point that quickly, but if you throw something of either extreme heat into cold or vise versa, it's gonna react and expel. It's like when you add frozen fries into the oil too fast. the cold water causes the hot oil to pop and expel

Someone goes to rob Cody: Give me you valuables
Cody: here’s a railroad spike
Thief: I don’t want that
Cody: Well, here’s $20
He could paint this thing black and put it on a shelf and no one would look twice at it. I had a family member that painted a silver bar black and used it as a door stop. It was still sitting on the floor when he came home to find he'd been robbed.
@@mrfatibe the only issue with that is that someone (with no imagination) who doesn't know what it is will Throw it away assuming it's something not valuable or dangerous lead, like if you put money in a shity book that gets covered in s*** somehow.
I'm sure people with floor safes also have their stories.
So to answer common questions that I'm getting:
I went home and filmed getting the spike out then I showed how the spike fared. Once the weather cleared up I drove back out (to some random field in town not to promontory) and pounded it in. Then I chopped it out once again and filmed how the spike fared the second time. Apologies for making it unnecessarily confusing.
The weight of the spike after driving twice was 588 grams. Given the uncertainty in the scale it could be and probably is much less than a gram. Also most of the loss was from the 2nd time in the random field so please dont go trying to pan out the dirt at promontory.
you should look into watching dr. stone, cool scifi show that's about restarting civilization from the stone age. main character reminds me of you
Thanks, I'll take note of that
Cody thank you for continuing to post quality content in the years I have watched you. I hope you realize that no one can really replace what you create on this platform I mean this seriously like who would use 26 thousand dollars worth of gold to make a railroad spike and then have the nerve to drive it into the ground? only you. Or walk on mercury or put mercury LITERALLY IN THEIR MOUTH only Cody. I just hope no one rushes this man because he creates perfection and without him there is a void. In regards to the time it took... Cody, my man, take all the time. Everything you make is worth watching.
That is very true. He is by far one of the best and most genuine channels I have come across
Replacing railroad spikes at some random location is probably the easiest way to actually hide stolen gold in plain sight..
Indeed. Until you return to find the entire track was serviced and replaced.
@@Shepard_AU that's why you find an abandoned line that won't get touched because it's cheaper to leave in place.
@Ben David but that's the first place the feds are going to look!
You could conceal it even better by lowering the purity to 14k or 10k, but you would need more spikes. You could also make an alloy with copper, giving it a rose color. I feel like the best way to conceal gold is to make wire with it. Not only will it be hidden, but it makes a great conductor, so you can use it around the house for things like you’re speakers.
Just bury in the ground somewhere where nobody can or will metal detect
I am actually quite impressed with how that spike held up to being driven into the tie, granted, it is fairly thick.
I like how he just measured out the gold and silver like it wasn’t a big deal. Like baking cookies or something... 😄
