Having actually made up this title (Over on Cody's facebook page if you don't believe me); yes it was a parody. And I originally had it say [NOT CLICKBAIT] at the end as well to make it more obvious. That being said, I think Cody def. could be better at drawing an audience with titles and thumbnails sometimes, even though some people seem to think you lose integrity - I don't. I used to be a goldsmith for several years. Never seen a vibrating gold ball but I did make a ring before that had a noticeable pulse at approx. the same frequency as a human heart. It was creepy but it stopped after about 10 seconds. Only happened once and I made hundreds of rings etc
I have considered this possibility but I made several hundred rings and other jewelry (mostly from scratch). It was only one time and I remember it very well. It was a silver Ring with approx. 95% Silver and 5% Copper in the alloy.

that gold ball vibrating is because you cody, you sir have made it get very close to critical mass. . . much further and it will collapse and then explode and produce another big bang. A universe within a universe, and one where you and me are gods
Actually that did happen in the form of a temporal causality and manifests the universe as a active simulation by the sustenance of balance in order to sustain the intrinsic quantum loops of the post temporal reality.
Hey Cody you should totally shoot it out of your cannon against a variety of other « soft » metals like copper, lead or even silver. That’d be something !!
Keep it! I wouldn't destroy it, atleast half of it. I know $12,500 is a lot for something cool to just stare at, but you're in the big times now Cody! And it looked like a gold geode to me.
Ur vlogs are so cool to watch I'm glad I found them it gives me something else to watch when I'm not doing anything and I can learn a lot from watching
THE MOTION ANSWER: The people commenting on how the oscillation might be like a modified Stirling engine are very close! The movement IS caused by a differential thermal expansion/contraction across the multiple inner spheres as well as adiabatic expansion in the gas content of the inner spaces, but the differential itself is not driven by gaseous motion or displacement, although it does play a minor role since the ball is in contact with the anvil which acts as a heat sink, but since it is a sphere the point of contact is tiny and thus so is the thermal transfer, relatively. Instead, the motion of the balls is driven by a harmonic expansion/contraction in the surface area of the spheres, which itself is driven by the difference in the annealing rates of the outer and inner spheres as they first gain and then lose heat in sequence from the outside -> in. Using a point source of heating exacerbates this since there is also a major difference in heating/cooling rates from the point-contacts of the spheres upon each other which is dependent on the relative distance between the direction of heating and the direction of gravity, which is the resting-state point of contact for all of the inner spheres and thus the major point of heat transfer between them. Gold is not the only substance that shows this property as many metals with a high thermal conductivity and large crystal grain structures also show harmonic oscillation as grain boundaries are broken and re-formed. Essentially when crystal grains in the material are broken under heating, they release mechanical strain as energy which causes a minute linear expansion/contraction in the material and on a (theoretically perfect) sphere this takes the form of a small force being imparted perpendicular to the surface. Thus, anything on the outside of the sphere is pushed outward and anything resting on an inside surface is pushed toward the center. This force is incredibly small but is magnified during high rates of crystal breakage/forming. Vibrations within the surface area of a circle/sphere are by definition harmonic in nature, i.e. why a wine glass "sings" and so given enough time and a reasonably consistent ratio of crystal formation/breakage, the motion of the inner spheres will settle into the lowest energy harmonic state. You could easily test this by heating the gold sphere with a symmetrical heating element (non-point source) until you reach the point of full general annealing where mechanical stress is at minimum, which for 990 gold is something like 1400-1500 F. Then you SHOULD see the oscillation slowly become smaller as the internal spheres also reach mechanical minimum in turn from the outside -> in. However, if you tried this and saw something different like the oscillation continuing or even increasing... well then that would be very, very interesting indeed!
W. Bush Yup. It's fun being the smartest person in the room occasionally, but life is more interesting when you aren't. (Though, even when you are the smartest person around, there are still things you can learn.)
Thank you Mr. President! But I can't take credit for it... I knew the basic mechanism more-or-less but there was I lot I didn't know - a good hour's research fixed me right up though. All people are smart and stupid in equal measure, it just depends on the area you engage them in ;)
Guys, I don't get it why you say this is clickbait. Clickbait means that you "Bait" a "Click" with a lie. You can see everything the title says and the thumbnail shows in the video!!
Alex R. He doesnt show the contents of the ball but seems supprised at whats actually inside. Yes its a clickbait but no one cares because we love cody
You fundamentally misunderstand clickbait, Adian steel. It would only be clickbait if Cody didn't show the contents of the ball IN THE VIDEO. Which he does. So no, it's not clickbait.
You all misunderstand "clickbait". The gratuitous facial expression leads you to believe that the video is more interesting than it actually is. It could also be misinterpreted as a horror type video. That face is actually kind of terrifying.
john papple Really? You know for certain how excited or interested I, and everyone else, was to see what the inside looked like? Mindreading FTW! Sure, the expression is exaggerated but there's nothing objectively clickbaity about it. You feel, subjectively, that his expression is OTT and/or terrifying, and the contents of the ball/video aren't *that* exciting. Others may well disagree. But as long as he's showing what he's saying he's showing, and the thumbnail doesn't blatantly lie about the video contents (which it doesn't) then it's really not clickbait.
Gold is used for specialty mirrors because it has slightly better reflectivity at infrared wavelengths than aluminum, and also because it doesn't tarnish at all at room temperature. It's not used so much for visible light mirrors because of the yellow color. If you have a layer of gold which is less than 1000 atoms thick, then you can see through it and it acts as a light filter allowing more blue and green light through than yellow (it is yellow colored on reflection and blue-green on transmission)
Typical government over spending, using gold for their mirrors when Goodwill's got perfectly good mirrors on sale for only $1.50 with half the frame still attached
when rolling it thinner could you weld the start to the end wrapping around the outside of the roller? That way you could keep rolling it thinner without stopping? not sure it would make it any easier but I would love to see it done.

You could show us how it was done in the 19th century
As always i love your content!
I could totally do that.
This would be awesome :D
15:26 aka "Don't come and try to steal it from me."
Without watching video I think I can safely say there is gold inside the gold ball
The worlds most lavish cat toy.
8:10 Hey its okay hes just a scared little ball of gold
I love Cody, been watch his channel for years now currently revisiting some of his old ones
that gold ball vibrating is because you cody, you sir have made it get very close to critical mass. . . much further and it will collapse and then explode and produce another big bang. A universe within a universe, and one where you and me are gods
Welcome to fantasyworld :D
Don't you have crypts for us to solve?
Implode*
You and I*
If you are the new God, at least use proper grammar
Actually that did happen in the form of a temporal causality and manifests the universe as a active simulation by the sustenance of balance in order to sustain the intrinsic quantum loops of the post temporal reality.
damn!!! shiny golden cantaloupe is pretty
If I spend $25,000 and a full day making a 1 pound golf ball it damn well better be pretty.
Top 10 Thumbnails to Increase Your Sex Drive
I don’t think you understand how much I enjoyed watching you make a thumbnail
I imagine Cody taking his official TH-cam gold play button and taking the gold off of it to make his own pure gold one.
Michael Nilson yeah but mind you, this is the guy who is saving every bit of dust that some quantity of gold in it.
Theres no point its gold plated. Its a few atoms thick
We need more Codys and Kanyons in this world. We really do.
Was that aqua regia that the gold was submerged in at the end?
Did you get that thing sorted out with the city wanting you to mow your sugar beets?
Wow cody I was doubting it at first, but it seem like it might has just been crazy enough to work +200k views in 10 hours... *not bad*
That little gold ball is really cool. It's shiny, and rattle-y, and I like it.
I love how the ball sounds like a marble when it rattles.
15:21 from some viking or heavy metal band member to 15:23 a nerd in 1 second.
Or he could be both ahem.. amon amarth
10:10 "let's focus on the ball" *focuses on the table*
Ur vlogs are so cool to watch I'm glad I found them it gives me something else to watch when I'm not doing anything and I can learn a lot from watching
How about making a liquid mirror telescope with mercury.
Thanks!
Next time I feel like the smartest person in the room, I'll remember this comment and go find smarter people (like you) to hang out with!
All people are smart and stupid in equal measure, it just depends on the area you engage them in ;)
Connor Williams:
Props for your personal modesty and dedication to research. I hope those qualities serve you well!
Just Another Bucky Lover bruh don't get me wrong I love Cody but this is clear clickbait.
That is wayyy more solid than i expected man. Nice work.
I went to the trending page and I noticed that nearly all the thumbnails had some sort of face. All but two
A mirror is basically just pure metal behind glass right? You should make a gold mirror
That's what NASA id doing with James Webb!
Typical government over spending, using gold for their mirrors when Goodwill's got perfectly good mirrors on sale for only $1.50 with half the frame still attached
they usually use VERY polished silver, but that could work, too, it would just make it look like the world got yellow jaundice.
Its actual a painted piece of glass
This dude seems genuinely nice and cool. Glad his channel is successful
It's like a golden geode... sorta. You should make a pinball out of it and put it in a "Gold Strike" pinball machine.
Turn on sub-titles and go to 7:55
[Applause]
And then Eric is scaping from it lol. Must confuse the hell out of deaf people.
The description...
"I make my ball bigger and then cut it open."
Cody, never, Ever, EVER, put those words together in that sequence again.
LexMc0606 that sounds like something some weird German porno
@@FloridaLivin1
Why German?
@@FloridaLivin1 yeah why german
when rolling it thinner could you weld the start to the end wrapping around the outside of the roller? That way you could keep rolling it thinner without stopping? not sure it would make it any easier but I would love to see it done.
Luke Ballantyne works with pasta machines.
I would love to see Cody do something like this just for giggles.
Gold is high in science AND high in fun. I like watching you do stuff with it.
